Coming out of movie at GSP late on a Saturday night doesn't leave much in the way of dinner options in the area...and, you could do worse. This Houlihans doesn't differ wildly from any other in the chain. You get the familiar menu of slightly jazzed up bar food at decent prices. The five of us snagged a table and got to ordering: I went with a buffalo chicken sandwich and an order of calamari. The chicken was ok: a massive cutlet hanging off the buttery bun, cooked rubbery with the sauce soaked breading sliding right off. Texture aside, it wasn't a bad sandwich, though the sauce could've used more zip and a side of blue cheese dressing was missing. Quite possibly the worst meal I have ever had. The place was near empty on a Friday night in one of the most populated areas of the country. This should have been our warning sign. It took 10 minutes to get our drink order taken, another ten to deliver the drinks which were god awful. I'm talking unsweetened iced tea with mango syrup, strawberry lemonade nothing that difficult. The appetizer , fried cheese, was arguably the best part of a crappy meal. Then our entrees came out. Mine came with a plastic bag containing green beans and a pot roast with enough salt to kill an elephant. It was awful. My daughters chicken tasted weird, the chicken tenders were spicy and the scallops were blah. Don't bother asking for ketchup, apparently it takes ten minutes to get everything at this place. This restaurant is 3-3.5 stars which remember, is "OK" according to yelp. The menu was pretty limited but the food was good to okay and the waitress was kind and helpful. The restaurant felt pretty dingy and just didn't seem clean enough to warrant a higher start rating. read more

Houlihan's Thai Chile Style Wings comes very close to my all-time favorite Firecracker Wings from Yard House. It's a closer (distance) alternative since Yard House is almost an hour away from where I currently live. Everything else was just okay. That is a lie. Houlihan's Brentwood Chicken Sandwich is perfection; it's juicy, delectable, and has a nice crunch to the crispy chicken. Houlihan's is basically an upgraded version of diners for similar prices... Dear Houlihans Paramus, are you aware that your workers are having a smoking gossip fest in the bathroom? there's like 5 tables and it took me 2 hours in total after getting a small soup. probably the worst service of my life, a blind toddler could do a better fucking job. waitress was dismissive and rude. food took a literal hour and didn't come with the right things. claimed my friend had fraud because their system couldn't read it (everywhere else takes it). didn't check on us once or offer a refill to our empty drinks. we had to get up and ask and bother people for anything. sucks because this food is actually good but ran by fools. read more

My husband and I like to grab early dinner at the bar in most restaurants. We find that service is usually faster, but that wasn't the case for this meal. The bar had a few other people, but it was definitely not busy. The bartender took a while to acknowledge us and then refills came slowly. The food also took a decent amount of time to come out, even though we didn't order anything complicated. The food is good. We had a very nice dinner We met some people at Houlihan's tonight for dinner. Not bring familiar at all with the area we struggled to find our way, driving in northern NJ can be challenging. I'm glad we made the effort, because our visit was very nice. We had good service the entire time. Our meal was not rushed, and our drinks arrived as needed. We sat on the second floor and it wasn't very crowded or very noisy. For my dinner I had their Reuben, an impressive looking sandwich that must have had a dozen or more slices of corned beef on marbled rye bread. With all the traditional ingredients included, it made for a very good sandwich. I opted to pay a little more and got the side Caesar salad, fresh and flavorful. So we wanted some good old French onion soup tonight for this rainy night. Finally the soup was served perfectly with just the right amount of roasted cheese. We came here for dinner on Fourth of July Sunday. We had originally planned to go to the garden state food truck and fireworks event, however it ended up being too packed. He advised my teenage son and me on our menu choices My kid ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes, broccoli, mushrooms and sautéed onions I had the NY strip steak with green beans and an interesting mash of cauliflower, cheese and bacon. What a good decision it was to visit a spot that I never go to. Kim, the reigning Houlihan mixologist, prepared the best drinks I've enjoyed in a very long time. Ideal place for a nice family night. Took my fiancée and her family here while out of town visiting. Reminds me of a Flanningans back in Florida. I had the Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli. The broccoli could be use more butter. The steak was great for portion and price. From Detroit but I always stay in Englewood, NJ when visiting NYC and always visit this Houlihans entry time. I've been to this location many times. The stuffed mushrooms are amazing. We order the $20.99 special (app,main,dessert). Wife ordered mushrooms, shrimp pasta and cheesecake. I ordered mushrooms, fish n chips, cheesecake and a french onion soup (very good). Everything was good except one of my pieces of fish was not cod. My wife grew up on a lake and knows her fish. She was convinced it was a piece of perch but no one on staff was convinced it was. I must say, the two managers did make it right by bringing me a new order of fish but the damage was already done and I was turned off by the strong taste of the perch. All in all, a good dining experience but just a bad piece of fish. Side note: The dining room was very dark. Wife actually asked for my phone to use the flashlight to read the menu. read more

I really anticipated giving 5 stars this time but once again, 3 stars at best. And these 3 stars are strictly based on the food. AND its pretty cool that when you check in on yelp you get 1 FREE small plate per table (not per person) up to $7! The manager comes to verify your free offer and you're all set. I must say though, this particular location was my favorite until tonight. It sucks that the service is so lackluster. Thankfully the food is superb because otherwise i wouldnt come. Our server, Michelle, was not good. We had to ask for her for simple things repeatedly, like menus and lemon wedges for our water. She wasnt very attentive, at all. My entree came out wrong, after i specified what to not put in it. Thats a pet peeve of mine. Even when it came down to the check, she just didn't seem to care answering any questions. Just below mediocre service. I'd expect this from the Secaucus location, but not this one. Appetizer (free small plate) - The spicy chicken and avocado rolls are soooo delicious and succulent!! The sour cream is the perfect complement to it, but not needed. They can proudly stand alone. I do think they can either be a bit bigger OR serve a couple more. They're small in size and portion for $6.50 - but a super yummy appetizer nonetheless. Entree (one of my favorites) - BBQ Salmon salad. I'm in love w/the citrus viniagerette. The mandarin oranges, toasted pecans, jicama...all of it soooo yummy altogether and very filling! Drink - my usual, the cactus bowl! Fruity liquid crack! For $10.50 it could stand to be a bit stronger. I think there's toooo much ice and it becomes watered down quickly. I did plan to get a dessert, the kamikaze brownie. But i was too stuffed. And i didnt feel bad for declining after such poor service. We were ready to pay and leave. Maybe we'll drop in another time just for dessert, but i dont know when. I hope the service improves. We were just arriving after shopping for about 5 hours, but wanted to catch a few college football games before we left the area. I searched sports bars and this place came up. We don't have this chain back home in the northwest, so it was nice to actually try a new chain. (I normally don't like going to chains because the food isn't really all that taste). Although, I have to say the food was delicious. The salmon was flaky, flavorful, and not over cooked. The veggies were bland, but the blue moon was crisp and delightful. I ended up getting a tasty chicken sandwich to pair with my blue moon which was a perfect combination. The chicken sandwich had avocado, bacon, and a great dipping honey mustard sauce. Honestly I wouldn't say anything was even a HUGE issue. Food was filling and cooked well, service was on point (over achievers they are at the bar) and the offering of selections were exactly what I wanted. One was a ultimate LIT and the other was like a bay breeze with Malibu I think. They were nth good. He made them perfectly. Now the food was just superb. Where is the GM or Manager that should be monitoring this place? I used to frequent this Houlihans quite a bit about 5 years ago. This was my first time back in a while and it has really gone downhill. I sat at the bar on a Thursday during happy hour. The bar had crumbs all over it and looked like it hadn't been wiped down at all between customers. The menus were sticky, had crayon writing all over them and ripped pages. The glasses appeared dirty. The dishes came out with cracks or dried food on them. Our food came out cold like it had been sitting in the window - meanwhile, multiple servers appeared to be doing close to nothing. The bathrooms had urine dried all over the seats. The food didn't taste bad. Especially for $5 plates, happy hour is a great deal - but please, someone give this place a deep clean! There were flies in the bar area and after seeing how dirty the place was, I was afraid to order beer because who knows the last time those taps have been cleaned. read more
