I've always been a big fan of Houlihan's and after visiting the tattoo convention last Friday my friends and I were starving and decided to grab a bite to eat. There were about 7 of us and we got a table rite away which is always awesome. Our waiter was really good at remembering all of our orders but not so great at remembering we needed separate bills which we requested from the moment we sat down. Regardless he fixed it in the end but it was a bit irritating. My food was fresh I ordered a house salad with blue cheese dressing which I LOVE their blue cheese dressing and my stuffed chicken breast was delicious. Look I have been going to Houli's since I was a toddler. I worked at the Secaucus Location for two years. Everything they make is BOMB. The Jambalaya BOMB! Houli Burder? BOMB! NY Strip ? BOMB! The sauce for the Buffalo Sandwich (Buff Sand as the servers in the back called it) is %50 butter %50 Franks Red Hot. No Tapatio, no fucking dollar store brand, no bulk restaurant depot "Chef's Quality" house brand bullshit. The real deal. Attention to detail and unbelievable constancy. Why do I love coming here after like 25 years?? Consistency. It's cuz I get the same thing every time and the service and atmosphere are consistently great. The menu has recently changed--yes, but they still have my shrooms. Couple that with a burger or one of their grilled chicken sandwiches on the brioche rolls and you have an amazingly satisfying meal. This place blows other chain restaurants out of the water....and the fact that it has been here for (at least) 25 years is an indication of how much people love it. I am so disappointed with the service we received during our visit. We were a party of 8 we ordered standard meals. I try to keep in mind most restaurants are doing their best during COVID but receiving all our meals cold not warm to the touch but cold including our soups is unacceptable. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the service I received tonight. DO NOT eat with Liz as your server. She was super slow, left us with no refills, never did a second check on the table after the appetizer or main course came out and we asked for melted butter with one of the meals and she never brought it out either. The other tables she had were looking around for her just like we were. The other server in the area came back and forth atleast 12 times since we got our meals to check on his tables and she didn't come once. I got up and stopped her on the stairs and asked for the manager which she never went and got her. She asked me "What did you want?" I said "I need another server." The hostess sent somebody else down to close us out. We waited 15 minutes from the time I asked for the manager until we asked somebody else to grab her for us. It was not a good experience. I am a regular here & go at least 5-6 times a month. it is a pit stop from my commute and I usually am in time for happy hour. It is what it is, calorie ridden unhealthy JUNK FOOD, yummy. The place is big so you can always find a seat but I stay at the bar. I like that they have happy hour and a "special menu" for the bar only. Ashley, Angela and Zee their Sunday & Monday bartenders are bar none the best around these parts and a great trio to be served by. Hubby and I was out late and looking for some grub. This happened to be one of the few restaurants who stayed open past 10pm mid week. I had a candy apple martini which was strong but yummy. Hubby had a black cherry coke, he had to ask for less ice. After that the service just took forever. I ordered the lemon something chicken, it was really really good. Hubby had the Tuscany chicken which was real flavorless and disappointing. The manager must have saw his face from across the room, because she came right over and asked if everything was alright. He let her know of his disappointment with the meal and she took it away and brought him the same thing I had, which was made faster than our original entrees and a bit less flavorful. We had the apple pie for dessert and it was excellent! Definitely for anyone with a sweet tooth! We would return. read more

It's a little odd to write a review of a chain restaurant: once you've eaten at one, you've pretty much eaten at all of them. However, this particular Houlihan's works on several different levels and it's worth a stop. The location right across from the movie theaters is a huge boon. There also aren't a lot of great restaurants nearby. I would definitely put Houlihan's above Red Lobster and Bazooka's, the sports bar wanna-be. The decor is standard Houlihan's -- it's very hard to tell one from another from the inside -- but the food was actually quite good the two times I ate there. The servers are very friendly and efficient. I would definitely return if I was in the area and wanted the Houlihan's experience. read more

The parking lot is ridiculous on a Friday or Saturday night, expect to either park far away and walk or drive around and wait for an opening along with about 30 other cars doing the same thing. Stay away from the new Flatbread Prosciutto Pizza Appetizer. The description sounds interesting, but it's horrible - a flatbread covered with melted mozzarella, crispy fried bacon crumbles (fried prosciutto?), some herbs, and sprinkled with Parmesan. I just moved back to the NJ area And have since in the last month or so become a permanent fixture here I normally sit at the bar, great Moscow Mules, wish they carried Prosecco, they carry Mini Brut. And thier Shrooms are a staple. I meet many tourists and businessmen at the bar and I recommend the shrooms. They simply cannot be recreated! They offer IBC for my child, and he loves a fried Brentwood, which is offered grilled. The Tuscany Lemon chicken is great, as are the ribs and Jambalaya. The Cappuccino cake is my Favorite dessert, haven't tried anything but- goes great with my cappuccino with Frangelico Bartenders and servers are very very nice. Friendly and they work fast. I've lived here since Jan 5th and been here even this afternoon before a movie about 18 times. I have had no complaints so far. Just wish they offered Prosecco. A nice champagne would be nice. I can honestly say that the menu is better than it was 20 yrs ago. The restaurant seems to have the place under control- not as chaotic and cramped as the one in Weehawken My husband works for UBS and says he prefers the Secaucus. We live in Nutley. Not a bad drive, but out of all the restaurants in that plaza- I always end up at Houlihans. That Cheeseburger Paradise is too crazy with the charoake. Haven't given anything else a chance, cause the menu at Houlihans is like 14 pages. So yes, I definitely recommend Even though this was my very first waitressing job in 1995. I went to this establishment today for the first time in celebration of my mother's birthday. This is bu far the WORST "restaurant" I've ever been to if I can ever call it that. The atmosphere was uninviting, the waiter's appearance and customer service was not up to par at ALL, we weren't even greeted. Second, when our food finally came out, the food was ice cold, as if it were from yesterday. When I mentioned this matter to the waiter, he proceeded to bring out "new" mashed potatoes in five minutes, which were actually the SAME mashed potatoes, just heated up in the microwave. Normally hated coming to this location. When I walked in today with my fiancé I could instantly tell something was different. We were greeted promptly and sat right away. Our waitress was Caitlin, and she was absolutely delightful to have taking care of us. The food came out quickly and the drinks were perfect. The homemade ranch dipping sauce was super yummy because they add some garlic flavor into it, and the fries, although not enough cheese, had some scallions sprinkled on top, which really helped enhance the flavor (surprisingly). Got the Farmhouse sandwich, which contained turkey breast, ham, Gouda cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a pesto cream sauce on foccacia. Honestly, not a bad sandwich, although it was a bit pricey (about $10). Hubby got the buffalo chicken sandwich and said that the meat was tough and chewy. Don't bother getting the chips and salsa, unless you like having a LOT of raw onion flavor in the salsa. The Cheese Fries were definitely the highlight of our meal. I ordered a gin martini straight up with olives, it arrived straight up, with ice and no olives. I requested two olives, they never arrived. We finally ordered, I requested a filet, medium. The filet came out crisped to a very well done. The waiter never checked back, we were hungry, we ate. When our waiter finally returned, I ordered another martini, being specific on how to make it. So I switched to the table furthest from the speaker and it was better. The service was slightly slow given the strict American rules of quick service but outside that view point, not too bad. The waitress was polite but not personable to me. She took my orders and brought me my food. Not one millimeter beyond that. I got a hamburger with blue cheese and bacon and a beer. It only cost $10 and I got a $10 buck hamburger. The meat pattie was very thin and kind of reminded me of the mystery meat that one gets at fast food places yet better. I've had better hamburgers in airports. But the bun was decent and the fries not bad. I learned later that Houlihans is a chain restaurant. It shows.
