We stopped at this Secaucus location and overall had a very disappointing experience. The service was poor. This is actually what bothered us most. It took us 20 min to get our drinks from when we ordered, and the food came slowly after, with another 20 min to get the bill after we asked for it. Then throughout the dinner it was very difficult to get our waiter's attention and overall he seemed distracted. The food itself was not tasty either. We would definitely not come back. read more

Came here after a movie tonight and the male host led us to a dirty table. We didn't even know if we were supposed to sit, he just moved the empty wine glasses to the table next to it and plopped menus on the table with the absolutely disgusting floor. Didn't even wipe it. I've never gone to Houlihan's in my life , will not be coming back. We decided to leave after the couple that come in after us got a cleaner table in a separate section. Only then did we realize he wasn't coming back to ask if this was a suitable place. I used to be a host and a server, so I know all about host rotation. But, Like really ?! No hospitality . No nothing, no mention of specials , no suggestions. Just plopped menus on the table and disappeared. I know a regular person like me doesn't mean much, but imagine if I was a secret shop? The front of house rating would be zero and reflect on management directly. I'm not one to give bad reviews and I'm not shy to mention stellar service, just check my previous reviews, but this was a terrible first impression. Too bad I couldn't get a hold of the manager to ask for this host's name. He had dark hair and a semi-light complexion. We were trying to get a quick bite in before our movie started at the Kerosotes movie theater across the way. Since Olive Garden was packed and required 50 minutes wait, we came to Houlihan's. This is my first time at a Houlihan's and it was pretty good. Our booth was homey and well lit compared to the rest of the dark restaurant, and our waiter was efficient. My tea's hot water is luke warm however, but that is characteristic of American joints in general. The veggie burger was delicious, but you need ketchup for extra flavoring, I found it a bit to the blend side. The flat break pizza is good too, and they can make it soft or crispy to your liking. The food did take a good chunk of time (approx. 25 mins). Mediocre overall. read more

Came here on a snowy day to enjoy my $15 off check birthday meal (sign up for their birthday club!). It was delicious. I think partially due to the fact that I was starving but it was quite good. I had ordered the Chipotle-Smoked Chicken Enchiladas. It came with 3 enchiladas filled with tomato-marinated chicken, onions, garlic and queso fresco with chipotle-smoked mozzarella sauce. Served with pico rice, black beans and sweet chipotle slaw. It was surprisingly very filling b/c the plate didn't look big but after you combine the rice, the enchiladas, beans and the really fresh slaw, it filled me up to the rim. Price was $14.99. Slightly pricey for Mexican food but there are lots of options on the menu to meet everyone's needs. A good place to hang out w/ friends before going to the movies. The service was ok. Ambiance was nice. I may have enjoyed my meal a bit more if I was not thinking about the impending "crazy" snow storm of 2015. read more

I'm not sure why this place has such a low rating. It is actually pretty good. One thing you HAVE TO TRY is the Potato Soup. I'd pay for the recipe, but they're not selling it. Other great menu items are the Tillamook Burger, Mushroom Appetizer, and the Chicken Fingers. I know, its just Chicken Fingers, but here they are really good. As far as service, we've always had good service. It seems like it's always a male waiter, and they're always friendly and attentive. The area is never too busy and I hope this Houlihan's stays around. They also have a 15 minute lunch special and Happy Hour appetizer and drink specials. read more

The place looked pretty nice and I liked the atmosphere. The waiter was funny and accommodating. I ordered the Kansas City Burger, and it was delicious! It was huge, but I liked it a lot. I also ordered a cappuccino, which I liked fairly well. Though prices were steep, I liked what I had. My only real issue with the place was how long the food took to come. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad and my husband ordered the Rosemary Grilled Chicken. We had no appetizers and just water. Hey, we're on a budget at the moment! My Salad was tasty and the hubby's meal was good as well. My problem wasn't with the food but rather the service and environment. We were seated pretty quickly but took a while for the waitress to greet us and begin taking our order. Food took about 20-25 mins to arrive. Our waitress took my order but never returned to the table to ask how everything was going. She only came back to give us the check- big disappointment. Hawaiian Lemonade was good, but that's the only reason this place gets two stars instead of one. Food is bad compared to other restaurants in their class and it that neighborhood. Mashed potatoes were watery and tasteless and shrimp had to be salted heavily to add a little flavor. I've eaten in almost all the restaurants in that Plaza/block and so far, this is the worst. Ate at the bar and drink was left empty for some time. Bartender disappeared and I had to flag him down like a fool to get my bill. read more

I've had the Impossible Burger at so many places at this point so the fact the most mediocre one was at Houlihan's is a disappointment. If Burger King has a better one for $5-6 cheaper then there's a major problem. My bun was stale, the cheese was nearly burnt, the lettuce was bland, and the burger itself was drier than the devil's armpit. I know it comes with a special sauce as well but I could barely taste it so I don't have anything to say about it either way. My fries were good (but lacking something) and thankfully I skipped out on an appetizer judging by my entree. The person I had ordered with didn't like their chicken parmsean sandwich (stable bread and way too much tomato sauce) but at least the green beans were a hit. Went in for lunch on Sunday and it was just okay. Our waitress was nice. The place wasn't busy since it was 3pm so I expected a little better. Located in an office park, there are many places to eat, so they really need to polish up. Our food was served relatively quickly. We had Blackened Chicken & Caramelized Onion Quesadilla for appetizer; it was good, but nothing special. As an entree we had Chicken Finger Platter and Hickory Smoked Baby Back BBQ Ribs. The food taste just OK. Food was served on cold plates so it was not too warm. In additional the place was so cold, the AC was going like crazy. We were eating in better Houlihans before. My boyfriend and I decided to check this restaurant out since the both of us had never tried it before and the menu looked pretty good. So, first things first, we're seated in the main dining area and it's gorgeous - the ambience was very nice and I was instantly enthralled by the beautiful ceiling (I will attach a picture). Our waitress comes over and we order our drinks and then our appetizer which were the nachos. I am a vegetarian so I asked her if she could put the sour cream and chili on the side - she repeated what I said just to clarify and said it wouldn't be a problem. A few moments pass by and our (new) waiter Antonio stops by to tell us he'll be taking care of us for the rest of the night and that our nachos are on the way (yay!). Our nachos arrive and my boyfriend immediately noticed that they smothered the nachos with the chili (the guac, salsa, sour cream were all on the side) while I thought it was just beans. He tasted it and yup, it was chili. So, we call our waiter Antonio to our table and explain to him what happened and without hesitation, he apologizes for the mistake and tells us that our dessert at the end of the meal will be free of charge. I was actually really surprised how he handled the situation! Our (new) nachos arrived and they were good at first but quickly became average because as we ate through the layers of chips, we found that most of the cheese was not melted. My boyfriend, however, did enjoy the side bowl of chili. For our main meals, my boyfriend ordered a smoked bacon cheeseburger which came with fries and I got a margherita flatbread - he said his burger was good but the fries weren't good (although I enjoyed the fries and ended up eating most of them!) and my flatbread was smaller than I expected but it was good. For dessert, we got the chocolate cappuccino cake which came with a scoop of chocolate ice-cream and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, drizzled with caramel and chocolate sauces. THIS amazing slice of heaven was the HIGHLIGHT of the dinner and even though we were both stuffed, we couldn't stop eating it. This cake was so good that I would go back only to skip right to dessert and a coffee. Seriously people, TRY IT! All in all, the food was honestly mediocre, dessert was amazing, and our waiter Antonio was just awesome. Four pilots walk into a bar..... No really, four off duty pilots walk into Houlihans for happy hour and dinner. We had appetizers: Chicken Nachos, Pot Stickers and Stuffed 'Shrooms.' Washed it down with some local craft beer. Food and beer were good. Service on the other hand was beyond slow. At one point, we did not see our waiter for 30 minutes. Meanwhile we wanted to order dinner. Finally one of our gang walked over to our waiter and told him his tip had bottomed out to zero and can only go up from this point. I visited one of my clients in Secaucus, and really needed to find the place for lunch. We did some search on-line and found this place. The restaurant is in a small plaza, and you can find lots of different places to eat there. The restaurant provides salad, burger, sandwich, entree and some seafood. I went there with three colleagues. We all thought the food is good and healthy. I ordered the southwest chicken wrap which was really healthy. I cannot say if there was anything special for its dishes. However, it is definitely a good place for healthy food. Plus, the price is quite reasonable there. So I think I may go there again, if I will have any chance to visit Secaucus. read more

The food here is good - if you want something filling order the pot roast. It has the right amount of meat and starch for a full meal. That being said the service here might be a little off at times. I think this might be a combination of the young crowd who go there to eat before movies and also the young waitstaff. A visit here to eat the pot roast is defiantly worth it. read more

My friend and I came here bec they have a variety of menu options including gluten free and vegetarian. I even asked our server for suggestions since this was our first time. His tone of voice changed like he really wanted to avoid us. The service is overall slow. From the beginning there was no hostess at the front. It wasnt busy around 5pm. Our server was ok in the beginning but we noticed that we were treated differently than the other tables. He never once asked how's everything. Our drink order took long. When the food came, it wasnt even that hot. We actually had to call him over for a drink refill. When he does come over it was to snatch the ketchup off the table to give to another table. Houlihans is usually a solid 3.5 or 4 star place as it has a good base level of food and service. Not this one though. The chicken was very dry and bland. Would definitely not recommend. Very small draft list. Watched them make mixed drinks and I think a senior in high school drinking in their parents basement would make a better drink with $7 vodka and Mountain Dew. Also, the female bar tender seemed to have an attitude problem. Avoid this place. read more
