We have tried or ordered a good portion of the menu and love the consistency of the food. Our Favorite Selections: White Bean & Artichoke Hummus, Spicy Chicken & Avocado Eggrolls, Goat cheese poppers Seared Sea Scallops- lemon-asparagus risotto, baby greens, basil-infused olive oil Chicken Asian Chop Chop Salad, Creekstone Farms Meatloaf Burgers are always good We order these often but there are many other selections not mentioned which are delicious as well. After such a bad experience here during my birthday wknd, I sppke to management and decided to give it another try. Although I didn't want to go to the same location again, I did anyway. Mediocre attempt at comfort food ? I'm not sure what I expected for our first time but we were definitely disappointed. Our server was nice, never caught his name bc he didn't tell us but he wasn't the issue. We went on a very empty Wednesday night yet our drinks took 15 minutes. My "Kentucky mule" didn't taste like bourbon at all but all gingerbeer. Sent it back & it came back even worse so I switched to a Guinness. The house salad was a heap of brown lettuce, wrinkled tomatoes & burnt croutons(I'm gluten free). The table that arrived 10 minutes after us received their food first, ribs & scallops(which reeked of fish as it passed by). At this point I was really hoping for a good burger, how could they mess that up right? Well the highlight was my gluten free bun which held together a bland patty with stiff bacon, no crisp at all. The burger was clearly only seasoned by the char on the grill. Maybe the food took so long to come out bc the chef spent more time on the floor talking to a table of his buddies than in the kitchen. Went in for lunch the other day and it was just okay. Our waitress seemed a little disinterested. The place wasn't busy since it was 2pm so I expected a little more spunk. Located in an office park, there are many places to eat, so they really need to polish up their act. Our food was served quickly and without error. This was a terrible experience. We decided to try the all white meat turkey burgers on a lettuce bun with the chips and salsa, no mayo, no salt and pepper. We were served a burger on a giant glob of lettuce, with chips covered in a spicy seasoning. We received no silverware. We had to get it ourselves. We had to get up and ask the hostess for ketchup. All this time we had to talk over the employees who were busy have a chat at the hostess stand. With the managers, mind you. I have never written a review before but I feel like this needs an amazing review... I purchased Nachos and some wings on a Thursday night. Houlihan's is always the go to on date nights with my partner and we literally get it at least 4 times a week.. and when we don't, we visit the restaurant. Any who; after 1 week of not getting it because last time was soggy and tasted kinda weird... yesterday we ordered it and we did it for pickup. Usually the order is on the counter 99% of the time and there's no wait, not like I mind tho, is a restaurant. When I approached the counter, there was no one, the manager ignored me at least 3 times when I tried speaking up and calling him to just let him know that I was there and I wanted my food. When he finally came forward, asked for my name, I gave it and he told me the girl was packing it in the back... to me that was weird because in the app was ready "10 minutes ago" but you know.. a lot of things happen in a restaurant; I just waited on the side for about 5 minutes and the waitress comes forward to give it to me and the manager LITERALLY snatches the bag off her hand and says "I need to check" to which I was really ANNOYED by because why is your manager speaking to you like that for no reason??? And not only that.. In front of customers??? Personally, UNACCEPTABLE. I take my food home; SUPER COLD AND AGAIN SOGGY... we start to eat and.. five minutes in.. my partner finds FEW BLACK THICK HAIRS (YESSSS HAIRS WITH "S") crumbled in the middle of the nachos!! It used to be a good store. I don't know what happened. But the last time I called at 9:40 PM, nobody answered. I called for almost 15 minutes, and nobody answered. The next day I called at 9:30, ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich, and it came out rubbery and not edible. I know for a fact, that that they microwaved the chicken. It was beyond gross. I am one to give credit where credit is due. I went to Houlihan's because it was late and there were few, if any, other options for late night grub. I was not expecting anything other than some mediocre sustenance, but I got so much more. This place is a chain in an enclave chock full of chains--this can not be denied. But to be fair, the food here was good. We started with the calamari which was crispy and delicious. We also had the chicken and avocado egg rolls which were equally good. What really impressed was the entree. I had the scallops on asparagus risotto and I must admit that it was amazing. I would never expect this kind of deftly prepared food from a chain establishment in an open air mall, but that is what I got. This blew the doors off of many preparations of scallops and of risotto that I have had at much fancier, and pricier, establishments. Lastly our waiter, Armando, I believe was his name, was great. My family and I have been coming to Houlihan's for over 25 years and let's just say we're not stopping any time soon. The food is always cooked to perfection and the service is equally as good. The Buffalo wings, steak fajitas, and grilled rosemary chicken are some of the menu highlights. The warm welcome from the staff and management is always great, and something you don't get from another chain restaurant. The Secaucus location has always treated us well and this 5 stars is definitely well deserved. Also, the manager Sophie is always a great host and is there whenever you need her. This is the second time I've been to this houlihans and had a offputing experience with the waiter. The first time the waiter was WAY too casual, sitting next to us, leaning on the chair, scooting beside us and pestering us to fill out a survey while we eat our meal. The second time I came here, a different waiter was leaning on a chair as he waited on us and once again began pestering us right after we ordered to fill out a survey and give him all 5's and to mention his name in the survey. This place isn't getting better . So we stop by to see if we could get a table before going to the movies. It took 30 mins for the app to come out . I heard my waiter ask someone else why it was taking so long and they told him its been there for over 15 min so obviously there is a communication issue happening there. We stopped in on Saturday at around 11:30 since we try and avoid crowds indoors. We sat at the bar, best decision as Angela the bartender has been there for 12 years and knows what she is doing. She was welcoming, knows how to make a nice cocktail and also knows the menu. We will go back just again because of Angela. My only reason for 4 stars versus five has nothing to do with our service from Angela or the food choices we personally had. It's simply because I watched other people who came in to eat and each and every time they were waiting for someone to show up and seat them or take care of them? No one was manning the front, and when he did come, he sat a party and left again. So the next people had to wait too and so on? I think they need to be more concerned for patrons, I heard one woman say, oh here we go again, no one is here. The restaurant itself seems quite light on staff. If you want a great experience, walk in and go to the bar( we actually recommended it to the couple coming in as we left.) The restaurant itself may frustrate you. This was my original favorite Houlihans before Hasbrouck Heights opened and then closed. We like Houlihans because it is usually consistent and there are "healthy" options. I had my annual $15 birthday coupon to use and my favorite Buffalo chicken salad is now at that price point so that's what I had and my husband had fish and chips. I really want to love this houlihans as I've been coming here for years. Lately however, every time I order take out, my order has been way too inconsistent. For example, I order Thai chicken finger platter and received wings instead. They rectified the issue but they also mixed both sauces together on the tenders that are usually in a separate sauce container. Another time I order order and ask for more garlic ranch sauce they give me one tiny little container and another time they'll give me a huge container with a lot of sauce (which I prefer). I just wish that when you ask for little things like extra sauce or something like that, they'll do what you ask.
