Love this place. No pretension, just a well balanced drink you can ask for be it matcha, latte or their cold brew. The crew are friendly and the place is clean. I personally love my matcha drinks. I can go from hot to cold, sweetened or that matcha dream with all that banana foam goodness. Then I'll switch it up to a nice hot chocolate or when I am feeling adventurous, I would go for that cold brew to give me an extra kick when I need the boost. Then, I would, once in a while have a plain latte made to perfection especially when the doming action and froth makes my drink just how I craved for
My daughter and I came here for afternoon coffee, She got the lavender latte and I got the sweet latte, both very delicious. Great customer service, very fast, the shop was very clean and organized, they had some pastries, and they also had some juices. Very close to the college. There was no street parking so we found a parking lot at the corner and parked there and just walked a little bit to get our coffees .
The lavender latte was good but already lukewarm when I am called to pick it up. The bear claw was terrible, hard and not even tasty almond or apple filling. I asked if it was apple or almond filling. The person said it was both. I didn't taste any apple. It was just almond filling. It was not bread/pain not croissant-like pastries. Just a hard bread as if it has been sitting there for days. The pesto tomato pastry was decent, crusty and layered that the bear claw was not. I might come back for the latte and matcha. Not sure on the pastries. I have had better pastries.
Such a delicious cup of Americano here! You can tell a lot about a coffee shop based on their Espresso and Americano, distilling coffee to its purest unadulterated form, and not hiding behind sweet sugar, foamy milk, and flavored syrup. The House Roots Coffee Valley Blend that they use for their Espresso is rich and layered. It's not merely "coffee-tasting." Any good Americano that comes from excellent beans should be more than just that. The hints of peach and hazelnut is most noticeable at first, while the lingering taste evolves to unsweetened chocolate. The selection of whole beans are also really good, making it hard to choose from. I have had a few of their Single Origin bags before, and while they are honestly more difficult to wrangle consistency in flavor and taste when pulling a shot of espresso at home (Single Origin can be like this), the results are worth it. This time around, I'm going to try a new bag I have not tried, the Ethiopia Uraga Gogogu (Landraces Washed) from Guji. Tasting notes are Candied Melon Dried Cherry, and Oolong Tea. The aroma is already so good, so I can't wait to try this at home!
I went to this location during the soft opening and it was good! It's been awhile since I came back and I will say, I feel like they changed their recipes to some items or changed a manufacturer of some sort. I usually get an Iced Matcha Latte - sweetened with oat milk. When I used to get it, the latte with dull green and tasted yummy. I got a good mix of matcha and oat milk. When I got it this past week, it tasted much more grassy although the color was more vibrant. I will say I think I preferred the old way they used to make the drink. Also the scones they sell are still pretty good! I do look and taste just a tad different but they are overall good. They do have a good seating area to study if you are student going to CSUN. Also staff are very sweet.
Matcha and Coffee both taste like sweeten milk. I could barely taste the matcha in my drink. For what you're paying for, I would rather go around to re:coffee where you can taste the coffee and matcha as opposed to just sweeten milk. $8 for a light green drink. Sure the place is clean and organized, but my intentions are just to order and leave. I don't really care about the seating.
Tried this spot for the first time. Nice chill vibe. They have a few tables and bench seating. Parking is terrible but theres a close plaza with parking within walking distance. Staff was nice. No restroom though fyi. Theres complimentary water as well. Ordered orange truffle latte. Really good. Hot and the orange is subtle but it's a nice combination of flavor. Some might want the orange to be stronger but I liked it. Thank you!
This is the third location location I've been to and I believe it's the newest. It's a much larger spot and right next to CSUN so good size for all the college students needing their caffeine fix or study session. Parking in the street seems hopeless but you can easily find parking at the shopping center next door. The coffee at House Roots is good- true to the bean and their drinks are consistently not too sweet. They have seasonal drinks as well which is always a fun surprise. Today I tried their toasted pecan latte and it was nutty and again not too sweet, good quality coffee here. I haven't tried any of their baked goods yet or hot food aka burritos but that's next on the list!
Sunday afternoon rainy weather what do I get ? An iced latte with cold foam. Rain or shine I love an iced coffee. My first time at this location and wow it's so big. The other two locations I have been to are smaller, this is great lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Right next to CSUN. I'm sure the students love it here. I sure did. Freshly baked goods (you serve yourself and take it to the register to pay) Delicious coffee and matcha drinks , good customer service.
Found about House Roots Coffee on a Sunday morning while running errands. So happy to run into House Roots Coffee and discover their menu and coffee drinks. Customer service here is also great. The young lady at the counter along with the barista were pleasant. House Roots Coffee is a pretty good size coffee shop and just a short walk to the next door parking lot. The shop has plenty of seating options both outside and inside the coffee shop. They also have a bar like seating inside. As soon as you walk into the shop the sweet smell of coffee greets you. The place is spacious and very nicely decorated for the holidays. There's a Christmas tree in the corner with ornaments and lights. The counter is also festively decorated with a banner that says Merry Christmas. You can definitely feel the warmth and spirit of the holidays once you walk in. Love the vibe and ambiance of House Roots Coffee. It's our first time at House Roots Coffee. We wanted to try their Signature Mocha Latte and Seasonal Orange Truffle Latte. Both coffee drinks were equally delicious and up to par. The Signature Mocha Latte was tasteful and you can taste the espresso and mocha blend. It was good and not too strong. My favorite is the Orange Truffle Latte. This was a tasteful coffee drink. Not many coffee houses can perfect an Orange Truffle Latte taste. It's late with orange cardamom chocolate syrup garnished with powdered cocoa. I will order this drink again and we look forward to trying other coffee drinks on House Roots Coffee menu.
In my opinion I wasn't impressed with their regular coffee. I always try that first when I go to a new place most of the time. My house coffee was bitter and sour. Not sure I'd get that again. I might give it another chance and try something else. Service excellent. Ambiance is casual. Parking available in structure.
I ordered their ceremonial grade matcha latte w/ oatmilk, less sweet with extra matcha powder as I saw people mentioned how their standard matcha is too sweet and you weren't able to taste the matcha as much. Im glad I did because I can definitely taste more of the matcha umami notes, though I have had places with better matcha-to-milk ratio without having to alter the recipe so I would suggest tweaking the recipe if lots of customers express the same opinion. Fyi, They do charge you more for extra matcha & milk substitute. Overall, it is a minimalistic, clean cafe with few seats inside, but more seating outside! They had friendly workers who made our drinks pretty quick.
Been getting their coffee for years! Started with their original location up in Granada Hills and then moved on to Chatsworth which was perfect for our daily commute to work. Parking lot is bigger there too. But I think this one takes the cake!! This location is absolutely beautiful! So much open space and love the amount of outdoor seating! They have seats out front and on the side in a kind of patio area. The staff are friendly and they make the drinks fast which is what they are known for. The quality of their drinks doesn't get compromised! Love their salted butterscotch latte but I decided to try their Einspanner Latte this time and was not disappointed!! Make sure to mix it well. Strong coffee with a hint of savory from their salted vanilla cold foam. Perfection and even have the biggest parking lol! They're right next to the shopping center where they have Panda, bb.q, and other shops. Easily walkable and convenient! Can't wait to visit again and try their other drinks. Honest (personal) opinions: the matcha dream tasted like melted vanilla ice cream (maybe get this if you're looking for something sweet, or just buy ice cream somewhere else lol). I asked to switch my drink to a regular matcha latte hoping I'd taste more of the matcha, which they graciously did, but it still was very disappointing because it was just pure milk with barely any hints of matcha. I should've went back and asked for more matcha powder, but was already disappointed that I ended up tossing it. I read from the menu that they used Rocky's matcha, but other cafes, like Community Goods, which also use this brand, does not go easy on the matcha, they make wayy better matcha lattes. The matcha tonic luckily is a bit better, and refreshing, but more of a yuzu-sprite taste. I don't taste the matcha as much, so the color was deceiving. While it was refreshing and better than the matcha latte/matcha dream, I unfortunately would not go back to House Roots Coffee if I want a matcha drink. With that said, maybe try their coffee instead (which I should've done, sigh). There's limited seating (just a corner bench), a small area where you can stand and use a personal laptop, and Wi-Fi. They do have bathrooms as well. Parking can be found either by street or in the plaza lot next to House Roots. They serve the drinks very quickly and it didn't seem crowded on a Monday afternoon. read more

Worst coffee I've ever had. My fault for ordering anything lavender. It was all lavender and milk. The lavender flavor was overpowering. The Americano was alright just really watered down. Sadly, my first experience was a turn off probably won't be coming back in a while. I'll stick to Re: coffee. Even Starbucks lavender drinks are better. read more
New coffee shop in Northridge which is awesome. This coffee shop is super spacious on the inside with seating outside. The barista was friendly and I ordered an iced butterscotch latte. Was a bit bummed they didn't have any breakfast food but that's okay. The latte was good, not my favorite but I'm definitely going to come back and try a new flavor. Parking is a bit rough on this street. Your best bet is to park by the calif chicken cafe parking lot and walk over if you don't live within walking distance. read more

4.75 Star Rating As someone living less than a mile away, I am SO happy we're finally getting this caliber of coffee shops opening near us in Northridge - most of us are fully "Starbucked out" at this point! House Roots Coffee is a welcome addition! Value - 4 Price is a tad steep, but you are paying for good quality food and drinks. We ordered the tea, the Gojuchang Pork breakfast burrito was so divine and packed with flavor and ingredients that it felt like an incredible value for the quality and portion. Food - 5 After a morning run, I came here for something cold and ordered their iced tea, "Garden of Eden." It tasted exactly like a premium passion fruit iced tea, and best of all, it was unsweetened - Yesssss, exactly how I want my tea! But the real deal? The Gojuchang Pork breakfast burrito my wife and I split. When I say divine, this burrito sent me to heaven! It came out hot and crispy, the cheese had caramelized (think Detroit-style pizza with that nice crust on the edges), and the burrito was packed with pulled pork, Gojuchang sauce, fluffy scrambled egg, and cheese. So much flavor - probably one of the better breakfast burritos I've ever had. I'll definitely be back to try their coffee and espresso drinks! Service - 5 The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful with deciding on the menu, which was simple and easy to navigate. They were attentive and made the experience great. Physical Location - 5 The place itself is big, airy, and cool. There's some seating inside, but their outdoor patio is particularly nice and well-shaded from the apartment complex it's situated in - a great use of mixed-use zoning. Everything about the location works - it's clean, well-decorated, and has a fantastic environment. read more

Found this place close by and I knew I had to try it, And I don't regret it. I tried their mocha coffee and can I just say that I LOVE how smooth it taste. I didn't get that burn coffee taste that some places have. Something I did noticed when talking to a staff member was that he mentioned something called a pour over drink which I personally had never heard of. However I love that they have a selection of their pour over drinks for those who don't like sweet drinks. Another thing that I tried was their pulled chicken burrito. I am kinda of surprised how this cafe has more than 1 location. I ordered their matcha to try it out and I was left bamboozled, they're straight up robbing people lmao. I am not even trying to be funny or messed up but I mean come on... I was even embarrassed walking around with that "matcha" it literally looked and tasted like someone sprinkled a pinch of green tea powder into my milk.. Granada location ftw. Cool location right outside of CSUN and around the corner from the plaza with BBQ chicken. Parking can be convenient during the day if you park either on the plaza on the street next to the apt complex. The interior design gives the feeling of a short stay with minimal small tables and mostly waiting area seating in the corner. There is a small display for pastries/baked goods, coffee items, and matcha. Since they sell Rocky's matcha I was curious on the "ceremonial" lattes which wasn't bad but for the price point I think coffee is the more realistic choice. The Korean breakfast burrito was a bit disappointing with the grilled side of the tortilla being overdone resulting in hard/crumbly aspect which wasn't the best. The protein content was lacking and the flavor did not present any Korean marinade or spice which left me wishing I chose something else. The service was curt but not rude so I attribute it to the light crowd, me being the third party total. Overall I wouldn't mind a revisit to get another shot at the food and drink but so far my first impression isn't as positive as the one on Chatsworth. read more

My partner and I would visit their Granada Hills location all the time so I was beyond excited to see they opened up another location in Northridge. It's right by the university so I imagine it will become a hot spot for students. I was there for their opening weekend and there was a good crowd there already. They were having a promo (50% off drinks) for the occasion. I did notice that the price on the menu did not reflect the price on my receipt. On the receipt it showed my latte was charged at $5.50 but their physical menu shows it at $6.50. Just something I noticed. This location does have more seating, mainly outdoors. They have a refrigerated section with alternative drinks, premade snacks, and pastries as well. I ordered a latte and a cold brew. They were both delicious, as expected. They were busy this day with the opening and all, so it was taking some time to get our drinks, understandably, but the guys working there were working so hard and really doing a great job of getting everyone's orders out as fast as they could. Everything ran efficiently all things considering. Definitely will be adding this place to the rotation of coffee spots when I'm in the area. read more

This place has become one of my favorites, I always come by when I'm in Northridge. Free parking, the baristas are always so friendly and the drinks are always good. My favorite is the Einspanner Dream but my partner really enjoys the ChocoNana Dream. Seems like a great place to come sit too, there is limited seating inside but plenty of nice patio seating. read more

cute place! house roots is always a nice spot but it was just a bit funny to me that it was entirely empty since they just opened lol. the staff seemed like they could make a good coffee and then they did! This is my new favorite spot for matcha! Ordered the Ceremonial matcha latte which wasn't overly sweet. You can tell they use really good quality matcha. Indoor and outdoor seating available which was nice. Employees were also very welcoming. read more

been driving past this coffee shop everyday without even noticing, glad i was finally able to stop by!! of course i ordered the matcha it was quite delicious the location is conveniently next to CSUN, next to the Aspire apartments right on nordhoff & darby - across from CSUN B1 parking lot ! found some street parking closer to other apartments (on darby) and walked over. the coffee shop itself has space inside and outside, a quiet space for students to enjoy some study time, cute place for meeting friends or your daily coffee runs! service was quick, the baristas were nice and recommended what drinks to get since it was our first time. Not to mention, the logo is cute and makes the photo more aesthetically pleasing :) read more

House Roots has done it for the 3rd time! I was so excited to finally visit their newest location near CSUN on Nordhoff, and I was not disappointed. The space is bigger than their other 2 locations with ample outdoor seating to get work done, hang out, or do some people watching. I'm a huge fan of their Sweet Latte, but I've entered my ~matcha era~ (lol). I ordered an iced ceremonial matcha latte half sweet and it was delicious! I highly recommend. Service is always on point and it's nice to see familiar faces I see at the other locations with a mix of new ones. House Roots is building a coffee empire in SFV! read more
