The manager is Jim Hannington and one employee Cheri Lynn Hernandez. There are several locations around Houston that all belong to Rom Patel. We bought the "new" washer and dryer for $450 (delivery/install, 90-day warranty, and hookups included). They were delivered on Monday the 19th. The delivery person did not bring any of the hookups and did not install them. I told him we were supposed to receive them and he basically told us that wasn't his problem. We called Jim. He said he had forgotten we had paid for that but we could drive over to the store to get the parts. We had used the washer a few times when it started leaking from the bottom. We tried to call Jim and he said he would have his "repair guy" call us to set up a time to come out. He never called so we had someone to come out and see if they could figure out what the problem was. They weren't even here for 5 minutes when they found the problem and told us it wasn't fixable (picture attached). There was a huge hole in the drum (not detectable without inspection). We called Jim while they were here and sent him the picture of the issue as he requested. And he said he would have someone come out to replace it with a brand new one that evening. We waited and no one ever came. After trying to contact Jim (calls and texts) AND messaging Cheri we told them we just wanted our money back and didn't want to deal with it anymore. They are refusing to refund us and now telling us WE need to bring it to them to be "repaired" (after he said he would replace it with a new one because this one is unfixable). I have been speaking to Cheri through messages about everything. We keep getting different answers from everyone and no one can tell us anything straight. I've attached pictures of my conversations with Jim and Cheri and how unprofessional and hateful they are. We were scammed and I want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

If you can live with that, you'll find yourself a great deal. Make sure you inspect everything before making a purchase. They do offer their own warranty or you can go with the manufacture's warranty, but usually all of those warranties have already expired. There is a $90 delivery charge and $10 for hauling away the old appliance. The price may have changed a bit but it's relatively around this amount. Overall, we like them and will purchase again from American Freight Appliance.

Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.
