It feels like on every other corner there is another hot chicken place, but I have to say that this place is one of the good ones. I haven't tried their Chicken Soup yet, which is something that I want to try, but I do like their chicken sandwiches, the mac and cheese was pretty good and so were the different flavors of teas. The medium was a pretty good spice level and it has a good amount of kick. I paid for the extra cilantro ranch and I actually did not like it. It kind of had a weird tang to it. The crinkle fries were good. The chicken had a nice crisp to the outside, juicy and tender on the inside and the buns were soft, although not warm. It was a no-brainer that I had to eat here again, especially after I was left impressed the first time I had their food at Katy. This time I had their secret menu, and tenders with slaw. The secret menu was 2 Belgian waffles with tender and slaw. I had the honey butter rub which was so good. The Belgian waffles were served hot and crispy. The tender was cooked perfectly, and it paired well when dipped into the mild spicy house sauce. I love the tenders and slaw too. Everything was served piping hot and fresh. Another hot chicken restaurant in Houston. I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago for the first time. It's in a nice strip center with parking in front. Inside it's a counter service eatery nicely decorated. I ordered the original hot chicken sandwich w/fries for $13 and added a drink from the self serve drink fountain. They have several heat levels and I went with mild. The food took about 10 minutes before ready. The sandwich and chicken tender is a little smaller than some of the competition however it was still big enough and plenty of food. It was a good tasting sandwich. I really wanted to like this place a lot but I think Hot Chicken is just not something that I enjoy as everyone else does. Having said that Houston Hot Chicken has a lot of sauce options and it's a great addition to the growing halal scene in the Houston/Cypress area. I have tried their Original hot chicken, nuggets, and fusion fries. On another trip I tried their classic chicken sandwich. Between the original hot chicken sandwich and the classic I think I prefer the classic one. The classic one does not have the sauce on the sandwich but it's also lacking the coleslaw. If I go back I will probably get the sauce on the side for the original and have the sauce on the side. I remember really liking their coleslaw but the sauce is just not for me. I dipped my fries in the sauce on my most recent visit and I just did not like it. I found it to be a bit sour and the flavors did not really sit well with me. I got the plain chicken sandwich combo, which comes with housemate pickles and no cole slaw and a side of fries with the strawberry hibiscus lemonade! Let me tell you, this sandwich is big, I could only eat half, and the portion of fries is quite large too, and seasoned deliciousously! I think Hot Chicken restaurants have kinda nailed down what they are all gonna look like at this point, and HTX is right in line with that style. Wood walls, fire murals, tv's, and a bar coming soon. The menu follows the mold here, there's the standard sandwich and tenders options and a choice of slaw and fries. Not sure if I'm meant to take the name as a statement of differentiation, but I'm not sure if there was anything that made this HOUSTON hot chicken as opposed to the regular Nashville Hot Chicken that's been popularized. The tenders were quite big, but the breading needed to be crunchier in my opinion. Would suggest more of a batter than a breading. Spice levels had a good range, they had maybe 6 or so I think as compared to the standard 5 many places go with. It helped find a good level for me. Interestingly they labeled their spice levels with Scoville units, never seen that before. They have a couple of different sauce flavors to choose from, but at an extra charge of a dollar, seems pretty steep. Asked for ranch, but was given their House Sauce. It was just a sugary Cane's sauce. Paired well with their fries which were awesome! Don't change a thing with those crinkle cuts. I liked that they had a selection of flavored lemonades, they come as the regular drink or iced, kinda like a slushy. They were WAY too sweet. Sandwich comes with a chicken patty and pickles. The spice levels are no joke, so would not recommend getting TOO ambitious (unless you're trying to test your limits -- then go for it). I like to think I have a pretty good spice tolerance and the medium was just the right amount to enjoy my meal while getting a little kick. They faked me out originally, as the fried chicken strips were completely covered by cheese and croutons. A quick stab with my fork revealed two large, juicy, perfectly fried chicken strips. The lettuce was crisp and fresh. I enjoyed the salad and washed it down with an Agave Cream Soda. One of the nice things about fast casual (compared to fast foods) is the effort that the restaurant owners put into creating a welcoming environment for their patrons. The chicken was so juicy and tender for it to be chicken breast, but it is. This quite literally dissuades me from making chicken breast at home. The medium level of spice was just right for me personally - spice level a tad bit below of Sriracha. My partner was super satisfied with his sandwich and how the flavors all went together well. He is accustomed to spicy foods so the 'Liftoff' was not too spicy. The fries were crispy, not overfried, not underfried and seasoned. The seasoning has such a familiar taste but I could not figure it out. I asked but the employees would not crack. They state that their lemonades are "house made" so I decided to go with bluepearl lavender lemonade in a slushie form. I was told that they do not put any added sugars which delighted me even more. My partner ordered a chocolate milkshake which practically saved his life. Let me explain. We were graciously provided a complementary salad and my adventurous partner decided to pick the the spiciest level food the chicken; Houston, We Have A Problem!. It is roughly 3x hotter than the 'Liftoff' and the restaurant requires a signed waiver form. Judging by how much darker the chicken was, you can visually see the problem. It is better that the other, well known chicken place. Hubs and I shared the Tortilla soup the next day, I had two bites and we agreed it was as good or better than mine. You are able to choose your spice level (mild) and it was perfect. I want a Lavendar Lemonade or one of the specialty Lemonades next time, but the Milkshakes look amazing. Always a big fan of hot chicken since I went to Nashville 5 years ago (Hattie B's anyone), so will travel for some good, spicy chicken. Located in Louetta (Longtime Houston resident and I had to google it), it's in a nice new Plaza with plenty of other shops and restaurants. Oozes modern. Clean and fun. The space is fairly large inside with plenty of tables, and some outdoor seating if that's your thing. The interior is immaculately clean, more so than a fast casual place typically is (especially since it's brand new). It was about half busy when we went but orders were coming and going rapidly. Got a chicken and waffle plate as well as the loaded fries. Got spicy (equivalent to habanero) and a mild. Now, I eat spicy (e.g. pluckers fire in the hole), and the best thing about this place is they give you the relative spice ranking. So no more guessing, pick your number and go with it. The spicy had a nice kick, it builds up over time but easily handled. The next 2 levels will probably kill most normal people. The chicken itself is juicy, and the sauce is amazing. Full of flavor and calories, but exactly what you need in a hot chicken. The fries were meaty and crispy, compliments the chicken perfectly. And the waffle is the perfect desert, don't even need the syrup for it. The loaded fries is similar except chopped with slaw.
