My boyfriend and I were craving Mediterranean food yesterday. I did some Yelp and Google searching and came across a spot we have driven past several times this week. After seeing the great reviews on here, we decided to stop in and see what it was all about! Upon stepping inside, we entered a stylish yet casual room with lots of blue accents. There were 3 men behind the counter, at work. We were greeted and asked if this was our first time, and were thence given recommendations. After considering our options, our eyes glancing across the big wall with menu items, we made our decisions. We each ordered a falafel sandwich, mine with spicy sauce and his without. We decided to each pick two different sides so we could share them. We got grape leaves, lentil salad, Greek salad, and tabouleh. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! Another customer was raving to the staff about the falafel being the best in Atlanta, and I have to say not only was she right, but I'd take it a step further and say it's the best, period! I was really hopeful for this place since it's on my way home and I love Mediterranean food. I got the beef/lamb shawarma wrap with a side of baba ghanouj. The man behind the counter was not friendly. I actually felt unwelcome and considered leaving. I had a long day at work and had nothing at home to eat so I hoped the food would make up for it. It didn't. The baba ghanouj was good, but the pita given for it was stale. The wrap was so bland. I actually threw away half bc it just was so disappointing and didn't taste like any shawarma I've ever had. I couldn't force myself to eat it. Will def not go back! read more

Flavor - Authentic - Fresh = DELICIOUS!! I've driven by this Mediterranean restaurant many times and promised myself I had to try it. FINALLY today I stopped in. I love good Mediterranean food and was not disappointed here!! Placed an order to share with my husband - as a first timer at this spot we wanted to start off "small" lol. Ordered a Greek salad, side of hummus, and a chicken salad wrap (I know, I know not necessarily Greek right?!). All the food was amazing. The salad was bursting with flavor - and no lettuce! Just authentic Greek - red onion, tomato, cucumber, feta, olives. Sooooo good! The hummus was just yum - and the warmed pita alongside it perfect. I could easily make a meal out of the hummus and pita. The chicken salad was excellent - wrapped well and super fresh. While I shared all this with hubby it was definitely sufficient enough to share. I'll be going back SOON to check out other options. Jovan is located in a smallish strip mall and you might miss it if you aren't familiar with the area and location - for landmark, there is a CVS attached to the strip mall. Don't miss it! So the establishment is in a strip mall, and you may miss it if you are not looking necessarily. But once you come in, it's a wide open area. On the outside they have some blue umbrellas with seating if you want to stay outdoors. They're like five or six tables so it's not a lot. But at least it's covered. If you come inside it's basically about 15 or so boots and tables for you to say that. Plenty of space. Again, it's a pretty big area. You wouldn't be able to tell if you are just looking on the outside looking in. I ordered the chicken shawarma and then I got the hummus as well. They make it right in front of you so you know it's fresh. They have a full prep bar, kind of like Chipotle, that they can put the toppings on the food to whatever you prefer. The portions are not huge, which was actually really nice. The prices are also low enough that the size and the price match really well. The pre-made sides all looked very good, but I chose the lentils for some extra protein. WOW, flavor town. The dressing was like a vinaigrette or maybe lemon juice and oil, but there was a depth of flavor in the dressing I wasn't expecting. The falafel were the best I've ever had. Really full of flavor. And the chicken shawarma was DELICIOUS, especially as it seemed to be dressed with a bit of the same dressing that was on the lentil salad. Food: Turkey Hovan Roll was pretty good. It was flavorful and light with a creamy cheese and the turkey tasted fresh. But to be honest we were pretty disappointed with the hummus. Although very smooth in texture, it tasted a bit bland. I also didn't enjoy the flavors of the fattoush (but to be fair, that was my first try of it). Service: the owners were very nice and gave us samples to the rolls. My go to Mediterranean and it should be your go to Mediterranean, too. Fun fact: Hovan has been an Atlanta staple for a minute. Meaning they used to be in Perimeter Mall and they've been in the restaurant business in Atlanta since the 1980's. The owners really let their Armenian food shine. Having relocated to Brookhaven they are still whipping up the freshest salads ever such as Tabouleh and Fattoush. Their beef or chicken shawarma with the spicy sauce is everything. Overall, I haven't had an entree or side item that disappointed. Their pasta salad is yummy, and their olive oil potato side is absolutely ridiculous. They really do mediterranean food right, nothing ever tastes reheated or bland. Oh, and tons of options for vegetarians. They are also known for their "Hovan rolls" and I am not a typical fan of rolls or rollup sandwiches but these Hovan rolls live up to their hype. VEGAN review: I planned to go to the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival at Blackburn Park, but after researching the food options they would offer at the festival, I decided I would have a better chance to actually eat something if I found a restaurant nearby. Hovan seems to be the only vegan-friendly restaurant in the immediate area which is fine by me because I love Mediterranean food! When I walked in, I was greeted by a very friendly older man who asked if we would like to try anything. I told him I was interested in the Vegan Roll and wanted to double check with him to make sure it was 100% vegan ("so there's no dairy or yogurt in it, right?"). He assured me it was vegan and went on to point out other vegan items they carried, including the Baba Ghanouj, hummus, lentil salad, falafels, and more. I decided to go with the Vegan Roll. I got the 5" and in retrospect, I should have ordered a combo plate rather than the Roll. The 5" roll was $6 and wasn't that filling. It was good, but I could just taste the tabouleh and not much of anything else. The man gave me a sample of the Baba Ghanouj which was so flavorful and delicious, so if I ever find myself in the area, I'm coming back for the Baba Ghanouj! read more

Hovan is shutting down their mall locations at Perimeter and Lenox, and going with this new location in north Brookhaven (in the same strip mall as Wing Ranch). The owner took my order and said he was excited to be out of the malls, and to finally have patio dining. It's basically the food court sandwich menu, but with a bunch of new mezza offerings. I ordered the falafel appetizer and chicken shawarma entree. The falafel were tasty and crispy, and the chicken had excellent flavor (served on rice pilaf). I also asked for extra tahini, tzaziki, and hot sauce to dip everything in. The only disappointing part was the limp and cold pita bread (go to Brookhaven Bistro if you want to try some amazing pita bread made on-site). They have all of their sides in a glass enclosure to check out too. I hope these guys do well in this spot, as the last two occupants crashed and burned. read more

This is the best Mediterranean restaurant I've been to in Atlanta so far! I walked in and was quickly greeted by the staff that worked there. It's a restaurant in which you order at the front counter, pick your seat and your food comes out to you minutes later. They have many different items to choose from besides the normal gyro and hummus. For example, they are known for their famous roll sandwiches which come in a meat or vegetarian version (quite tasty too!). They have a number of vegetarian and vegan choices on the menu as well. Parking is free right in front of the restaurant which makes everything more convenient and they even have a patio area to enjoy your meal outside. I enjoyed a beef schwarma combo meal. This isn't the normal processed gyro meat though! This meat is actually real without all the preservatives. I could truly taste the difference! I had a combo meal which came with two sides. I selected the freshly made Cucumber salad and cold soup. I've never had cold soup and I was impressed! It was such a delicious and healthy meal. The falafels are even made from scratch. How can you go wrong? They have a lunch menu and a dinner menu which starts at 5pm. I will definitely be back soon and definitely recommend this restaurant for someone looking for a real authentic Mediterranean dish! read more

I was craving some Mediterranean food and looked up a spot as I was servicing my car on Peachtree Industrial. I found this family owned restaurant and decided to give it a try! I was very pleased with the overall experience! The atmosphere of the restaurant was very welcoming. I had the the beef shawarma with a side of potatoes salad. There was a wide variety of Mediterranean and healthy sides to choose from! With my drink and taxes, the total came up to just over $10, which wasn't bad at all for the quality and quantity of food.
