This is the breakfast place I wish I had in my town. I visited this place for breakfast twice with my wife while we were in town for a long weekend getaway. The first day I had a smoked salmon omelette. The omelette was substantial. The potatoes were well seasoned and delicious. On the second day I had the standard 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon and 2 pancakes. The draw was the 2 pancakes and I was not disappointed. The pancakes were fluffy with butter and maple syrup. The coffee was the weakest link in my opinion. It wasn't brown water but was lacking in taste and depth. The espresso drinks were the star in the caffeine department. My wife really enjoyed her maple cinnamon latte and I the mocha. The wife and I also partook of the mimosas on both days. A descent sparkling paired with fresh squeezed juice and that's all it took to provide a superior mimosa. The mimosas were also generous and a good balance of juice to sparkling. For reference, the wife and I use fresh squeezed juice at home for our mimosas with just a couple of tablespoons of juice per glass of sparkling. We're looking forward to the next time we're in town to visit Howard's Station Cafe. read more

Went for breakfast. Hollandaise had no flavor and was like a muddy gravy. Cookies were stale. Green drink was good. Will not return.

Cajun omelette: really spicy, perfect for me. 5/5 House potatoes: great flavor but could use more crunchy/crispy bits. 4/5 Heart Shaped Biscuit: too cute!! I broke it in half and poured a side of sausage gravy ($3) on it. I could've used a smidge more gravy, wasn't quite enough for me for that biscuit. Used to eat the best biscuits and gravy ever, on the regular, 10+ years ago in college. This b & g is close as I've had since. It's legit. This was the highlight of the meal, for me. 5/5 Irish Benedict: I'm admittedly biased on this one, I love anything with corned beef hash. 5/5 Food came out super fast even tho they were really busy (Sunday morning brunch time). Not what it use to be. Since Covid you don't get table service, you order at the counter, pay and tip, then go sit down, with your little table number. This morning meal came to $66, feel like we had fast food. They don't use Canadian bacon on the eggs Benedict, just sliced ham, I asked for hashbrowns I got potato cakes, people there is a difference, McDonald's has potato cakes. Side of bacon didn't have much flavor and was limp. Not even an eight final touches on the Benedict like paprika or a spruce of something. Since my last visit around 3 years ago, I think there's been an ownership change and they now take credit cards. Otherwise, the place has the same look and feel, and a similar menu. The heavy evening the night before was at Hazel's this time and I ended up ordering Howard's Homemade Granola (with almond milk) and strong black coffee again! OK, I added bananas to the order this time. As before, service was homey, friendly and enjoyable. The rest of my group ordered off a menu of nice variety and were all very happy with their choices. First time here. It's a cafe. They serve Breakfast Menu until 12 and Lunch Menu after that. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor was full so we had to go fo the indoor. So you look at the menu and walk up to the counter to order and pay. They give you a number to put on your table so they know where. You are when your food is ready - and they deliver it to you. They don't pour coffee, or water. You have to get that at the counter. If you order a soda - that is handed to you when you pay. No glass - just the can... I had the Cajun Omelette. It had plenty of ingredients - Cajun sausage, potatoes, jalapeños, tomatoes.....but it was those ingredients rolled up in an scrambled egg "tortilla". The flavors were good. So when you cut in to it, everything falls out. It was okay - but that's it. My friend had the waffle which was barely warm and my other friend's meal was served about 10 minutes after the first delivery. No one comes by to see how things are...no one comes by to refill coffee. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. I used to go to the church on the hill when I was a kid and sometimes we would go to Howard's after or go to the union for pizza. First of all, let me say that the staff are absolutely wonderful and the service was really great for a casual place. My GF got the Howard's club. It was huge. I'll probably be eating it for dinner tonight. So why the three stars? I ordered the "American Smash" and to honest, it wasn't good at all. First of all, the burger patties seemed more steamed than smashed. They were cooked rare/med-rare and there was no crust at all on the patties (i.e., not a "smashburger"). Secondly, they didn't grill the bun to give it some strength and because of all the juice from the undercooked patties, the burger just fell apart. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I have a brief chat with the cook before getting another smashburger? You betcha. I'll try again and if they do it right, I will change my review. read more

I had never been here before, despite having been to Occidental many times. I had stayed for several days in Guerneville and was amazed that there was NOTHING open for breakfast in that town. Howard's was suggested as a spot for the drive home and I was very pleased to have done so. I know there's more to the menu besides breakfast, but somehow, to me, if you can nail breakfast, I'll be back for other mealtimes. And they nailed it. GREAT food, excellent and friendly service and a relaxing, unrushed atmosphere that is surrounded by memorabilia of days -gone-by (Howard Station, as suggested by the name, used to be the train station for the town.) Whenever I'm in the area, I always stop by for brunch bc I have NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED with anything I've ever had. Even my husband, who has Celiac, trusts this place to not contaminate his food (and he doesn't trust many places at all).
