I think this is my first 1 star review on Yelp. I had a horrible breakfast here. I ordered the turkey sausage, scrambled eggs and home fries. The turkey sausage tasted like it had been reheated after sitting in the kitchen for hours. Needless to say, I didn't finish it. I let my husband try it and he couldn't believe how inedible it was. I moved to the area about 10yrs ago and always wanted to try this place. I'm always on the hunt for a good breakfast restaurant. After reading the reviews and viewing the pictures, I decided to give it a try. First con... wayyyyy OVERPRICED, I mean wayyyyyyy. Second con... food came out cold and just average. I strongly believe you can charge more $ for unique and high quality food but this just wasn't the case. Third con... the place was completely empty. My husband and I have been going to Howards for about 4 years. They have been nothing but consistently great. If you want a great meal and friendly, quick service. This is the place to go. Nino, who is the owner manager is fantastic. Casandra, Maddy, Vivian and Shanna are friendly and courteous. They all make you feel like family when you are there. I love this place! This is our "go-to" breakfast place. The waiters are always friendly and attentive. I always get the apple chicken sausage... it comes with eggs, hash browns, and toast of a biscuit (I always get sourdough toast with a side of gravy.) LOVE this place! Decent food for unbeatable prices. I highly recommend them for breakfast. They have everything from griddle favorites to omlettes, to specialities like Eggs Benedict (yummy!). The place can get a little crowded on weekend mornings, so be prepared to wait. The wait staff if pretty good, you never have to ask them to refill your drink. The owner is super nice. read more

My grandpa is a regular so going with him we get special treatment. I wasn't expecting much for flavor, just wanted to make paps happy. We got lucky. The bananna pancakes were amazing, no syrup needed. My husband got the ground beef and scrambled eggs with hasbrowns & toast. I, being a natural blonde, didn't realize the ground beef would be IN the eggs... duh! I didn't like that. The hashbrowns were yummy and they had sourdough toast, I miss California so much sometimes. I would certainly come back on my own for the bananna pancakes. I'm also of the mind set that a coffee shop should look frumpy. Don't come for the decor. We ordered t- bone steak and eggs- steak was way undercooked, only a small amount of hashbrowns, biscuit was dry. Belgian waffle was burnt and dry. Very expensive for the quality and amount of food. No drinks. Also ordered banana pancakes. That was the only thing we liked. Meal was $35 with no drinks. You are better off going to John's! Or...look out the window at IHOP...for the price you get a lot more food and it is cooked correctly! I will NEVER come back here. read more

I was on way to an appointment and wanted a great breakfast - a treat for my upcoming birthday. I tried Country Cafe and line - out the door, then IHOP, line -out the door. I double backed to Howard's who had lower stars on Yelp, but was wide open. I wondered why no one was there and everyone was half a block away at the other locations.  I found out quickly. Though the waitress was amazing and the owner?/manager, so kind and polite, the food was mediocre at best and an Egg's Benedict with dried out hash browns, that did not have real hollandaise and was over peppered, cost $17.99. I ordered this, made my own iced coffee for $3.99 (one cup of decaf and small creamers) and one pancake for $4.99, it was rubbery and a bit bland. The bill was $30 for one person before tip. I ALWAYS tip 20% and this waitress deserved it. However, I went with 15% for the highway robbery that was this meal. I have had sublime Egg's Benedict at 5 star hotels for under $15.  It is really sad because the manager and waitress could not have been nicer, or given better service. Either up the anty with food and ambiance that matches the cost, or lower prices to match the not-so-tasty food. read more

I had my time zones all mixed up so I thought it was brunch time and it was okay for me to eat lots of food. Well it was actually on 9 am so I needed have a smaller meal. Well small meals are impossible at Howard's for breakfast. I tried to go for the turkey sausage with small pancakes but that also included eggs and hash browns. Oh what's a girl to do ? Eat it. The service is very good and prices decent. It's not dirt cheap but cheap none the less. I now know that I should go for a morning walk to Howard's and not the canal. read more

My husband and I came here for breakfast sunday with our son and had a wonderful experience. They were able to seat us right away. The food was delicious and flavorful. They served us big portions. They serve breakfast all day, so it's good if you have a craving for breakfast foods once the morning is over. They have an extensive menu. Food is pretty average with prices about $10 or so per plate, which I find a bit expensive for breakfast, the easiest meal to make. I got the corned beef hash, which came with two eggs, pancakes, and hash browns. I think it was from the can, but they fried the outside to a crisp, which I liked. I hate when it comes looking like dog food. My friend got some Omelet with a bunch of ingredients like sausage, tomatoes, etc. I had a bite, and it was fine. Service was good, but that may have been bc we were only one of two tables there in the afternoon. I think this place was here since I was in HS (a very long time ago), so it's nice to see that a relic such as this is still around. read more

Little Retro Cafe that I will say is ok. Nothing great or special about this place. The food was decent but over priced. Everything was a little too greasy. You can tell the use a lot of oil when they are cooking. My husband got the Belgium waffle and it looked more like just a regular waffle. I ordered the ham and eggs and they were good but the hash browns were greasy and ever cooked. The biscuits and gravy were a huge disappointment. The biscuit was dry and the gravy didn't have much flavor. We will not be back. read more

I been to Howard's a few times now and this place is great. The staff is friendly and the food is good. This is one of those places you judge by the way it looks outside but you shouldn't because it's miss leading. It's a diner so don't expect to much for decor, but it makes up for the food. My girlfriend loves the banana walnut pancakes and you can't go wrong with the omelets. read more

Had the Special which was Louisiana sausage. Awesome! I am a Bacon lover and hardly ever like sausage. Hubby also loved the Corned beef hash that he ordered. Home fries are really good too. Great place!! Cannot wait to go back. My wife and I tried it for the first time on mothers day and it was the perfect breakfast for a mother on her day. Service was nice, the scenery was good(old fashioned but couldn't complain), and food was amazing. I ordered Po' Boy scrambler plate and got to choose a side(which I chose biscuits N gravy) and I couldn't have been happier!! Wife ordered chili omelette that as strange yet delicious. Went to dinner last night with my mom and daughter around 7pm and I think Marcey was our waitress...she was very friendly and attentive. I had the grilled cheese and fried zucchini which was yummy! I usually go to Kim's for breakfast it's usually good and great service during the week I had lunch there today it was the worst my son ordered a cheeseburger bacon avocado burger the burger came with hardly any cheese and there was no bacon avocado had to be sent back I ordered a Reuben it came cold and greasy I had them take it off my bill this place is really going to the dogs. It's sad but I no longer will be going back you should get what you pay for. read more
