After the longest time I finally made it to Howdy Bagel and they did not disappoint!! I live in Seattle so usually I would not make the trek to just get bagels especially when lines start forming about half hour before they open. However, we were headed to LA Push and leaving Seattle early, my dad is in Tacoma and graciously went and got in line for me at 7:30. I arrived around 7:52 and the line was getting long (thanks Dad!). We were like 3rd in line. Doors opened up and the shop was ready. The line went really fast. The service was great, personable and kind. I ordered 2 bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on everything bagels, 1 rosemary sea salt bagel with chive cream cheese, 2 bagels to go (a gift to my dad waiting for us) and 2 coffees. Our order came out quick, hot and fresh. The hot sandwiches were so good, they have this howdy sauce that is just absolutely delicious. I was in food heaven. We took the rosemary sea salt with cream cheese to the beach, it held up well and was a perfect beach snack. The decor inside the shop was very cute, airy and charming. I cannot wait to go back and/or have my dad bring me bagels!! I would wait in line now knowing how delicious everything was. It would be worth it. Yummy bagels! I saw all the hype around this place and was hesitant to brave the line, but took the chance on labor day weekend. Went early to go before it opens at 7:50am and the line was already long. I think we were able to get our food around 8:30 though, which seems quick compared to some other reviews. Bagels themselves were chewy and delicious (I appreciated the amount of salt that you could taste). I was unexpectedly blown away by the caramelized onion add-on (only $1) to the point where I'd get this on its own again. Ordered a half dozen, tub of plain cream cheese, eggs and caramelized onion, and a coffee. The main bummer was they didn't have za'atar or onion bagels that day (we wanted to try all the flavors since lining up here is no small ordeal). Ended up being satisfied with the items we did get though. Theres a bit of seating inside but you might have to wait a bit until someone leaves. Most people seem to just grab a dozen for home so it's not a huge problem. Owner swung by to make sure everyone dining was doing ok, which was sweet :) read more

This place gets an average 3 star for me just because I expected more since there was so much hype around this place...the first time we came the line was super long so we skipped it, this time, we came at a later time and the line wasn't too bad so we decided just to brave it. Honestly, it wasn't too bad, it took about 25 minutes to get our orders in. However, the time it took to get our food though was a bit much...we only ordered one thing and it took another 20 minutes before we got our sandwich, so total time was 45 minutes.... The place is bright and nice and open and there's definitely a lot of people working, so not sure why it took so long for food to come out. We got the avo-boast on an onion bagel. The bagel was definitely good, no doubt. Chewy inside and nice exterior. However, the filling of avocado, eggs and veggies was bland. No seasoning. I had to add hot sauce and other condiments I had in hand to make it worth while. Overall, I drove all the way from Kirkland to here and so for me, it was not worth the drive.. it was ok. read more

Tip: If you don't want to wait in line for over an hour (yes I waited over an hour) come here before they open. The staff were very friendly despite the chaotic long line. They still were able to manage very well under that kind of stressful environment. They make their bagels and creamcheese spreads fresh. They also have a open kitchen concept so you can see th making fresh bagels in the back and bringing it to the front. I ordered the grit city lox and added pickeled red onion and subbed my scallion cream cheese for kimchi cream cheese and got a unsweetened ice matcha. The flavors were well balanced and the ingredients were very fresh. They stuff the bagel sandwiches, so you definitely would not feel hungry after eating 1 sandwich. It was so much that I was only able to finish half and will save my other half for breaky tomorrow . I was on site to come away getting my oil changed at the Subaru place and so I went for a walk to find some food. I saw the sign in the small building that looked old on the outside, but when I went inside, it was nice and modernized. It's a small place but cozy and busy. I had a 16 ounce double shot mocha and it was fantastic. I also had a rosemary and sea salt bagel fresh out of the oven and it was amazing. Stopped by this morning with a friend and toddler in tow! We got to Howdy approximately at open 8am and waited about an hour to get our food (line to food in hand). The shop is so cute and filled with things you might want to buy as you're waiting in a cafe line - coffee snacks treats and merch! We parked on the street (south Tacoma Way) but I saw on Instagram there's some parking in the back. The line snakes along the sidewalk but wasn't too bad when we arrived. A few people with toddlers and the street and area is pretty quiet on Sunday mornings so child friendly! People in line were polite/chill/excited for bagels and didn't seem to mind my kid running around (even the lady she grabbed eek). My friend and I had our orders picked out before we got to the register but we were still so excited and service was so friendly that I still sort of forgot my order haha. We ordered grit city lox (on everything) and egg and cheese with smashed avocado on everything and a half dozen bagels (everything, sesame, cheddar). Food was ready in about 10-15 mins and with the flow of customers we were able to nab a seat and table. Toddler ended up liking mostly the avocado so I got to eat her sandwich along with taking my own home. It was so so so good! Or, as others have mentioned - worth the line and up to the hype. Really exceptional service (Jake of Howdy Bagel at register!) and great yummy food. Oh and my chai latte was so delicious, as well! Will be back, sooner than later. What a fun morning! read more

I discovered Howdy Bagel through some friends when they were selling bagels at the Proctor Farmers Market. I was very excited to see that their brick and mortar shop has finally opened. And so was everyone else. After four days of being open, they still have lines halfway down the block! A server came out and offered us samples of their drip coffee (it's a special roast that Olympia Coffee made for them). Once I finally got inside, I was finally able to appreciate their cute decor and incredible jams they had playing. I ordered a BEC on a za'atar bagel (and they were able to do vegan cheddar for no extra charge), three bagels, and an almond milk matcha (I believe they collaborated with Jin Jin for their matcha). The matcha was quite tasty! The bagel sandwich was good, but perhaps it would be better with real cheese. It's also worth noting that don't come here expecting a NY bagel or a Montréal bagel, because they're not trying to make either. The food is great, but what makes this place so special is that they're a queer-owned small business with such a passion for improving the community, and have the nicest and most patient staff (seriously - you have to be patient if you're have lines out the door and around the block and aren't acting the least bit frustrated). So go, but go as early as you can so you don't have to wait as long as I did! read more

I see where this place got their hype. Every time I drive by there was a very long line. This visit it was pretty short. We got the cheese and egg, cheese bacon and egg and the salmon one. 100% will be coming back. They also have pickled stuff for sale that looked really good. I can't stop thinking about it. The texture is soft and chewy, can't go wrong with any flavor, my fav is the rosemary sea salt. We had also ordered a rosemary sea salt with cream cheese & scallions, another winner above average cream cheese. My husband got a plain bagel with roasted garlic cream cheese. We shared them both and they were amazing! One of the best bagels I have ever had- the perfect amount of crisp on the outside and warm and pillowy on the inside. Made perfectly! The cream cheeses were flavored beautifully, creamy and fluffy. Absolutely delicious! The iced americano was smooth with a bit of a nutty blend. Everyone at the shop was so kind and even though they were so busy, the service was quick and efficient. I'm not one to try to hype anything up because I hate a let down, especially when it comes to food, but Howdy is so delicious. I dream about it at least 2-3 times a week. The lines can be long especially on the weekends, but always worth it (so long as they don't run out of bagels). It's a very intimate space but most people don't seem to be there to stay, more of a grab & go situation. I also love all of the merch around the shop.
