1st Timers the other night to Mangia Brick Oven Pizza in Jackson, NJ. I ordered a half sausage & half pepperoni pizza, my wife had a chicken parm dinner, and my Mother In Law went with the Eggplant Rollatini. We started off with Boli Knots for an appetizer. I thought they were very good, but my wife & Mother In Law were turned off by the copious amount of garlic. O well, I ended up having five out of the six knots ;). Marinara sauce that came with the knots was spot on, we all enjoyed it. My Mother In Law did LOVE her Eggplant Rollatini (and she also had a slice of pepperoni pizza, she really liked that too). My wife was happy with her chicken parm, and I felt the pizza was decent. NY style. Friendly & attentive service, a nice dining area also. All in all, a pretty solid experience at Mangia Brick Oven Pizza this past weekend. We are planning to come back, they have an outdoor dining area that allows dogs (a BIG plus for us, since we hate to leave the pooch home), and they are close enough to my Mother In Law's place to grab some takeout anytime. This is $90. No salads bread thrown around the box. I get it. I understand the state of the restaurant industry and how difficult it is to stay afloat with such small margins but if your going to charge me $90 with a tip then make sure everything is perfect. Alfredo had no chicken...raviolis were missing meat sauce. When we called to tell them the girl told us that we were pretty much beat because they close at 9 and it was 915. She offered me a $7 credit. I told her that nobody was going to eat so please come and get the food then and give me a full refund. She said were closed so I'm beat. I then said that I will drive the food there myself right now and give me my money back. She told me that that wasn't going to happen. Keep having high school kids running you business. Mangia is a pretty solid place. Especially if you want a quick slice. The staff by the pizza oven is usually friendly and speedy. My go to is the penne vodka slice (pictured). The dinner entrees are decent, have gotten the eggplant rolatini (would recommend) and other pizza. The main reason it is not 5 stars is service, when we dined in once it was a bit slow and the waitress was not the most friendly. Most of the time I come though the food is good and the people are nice so I would still recommend! read more

The food is good. But not the best or deserving of a 5 star. NJ has a dense population of Italian people. And results in some really amazing Italian dining. Mangia's food quality is good, but they have service issues. I tend to forgive their delays because of the convenience of a 5 min ride, but really does it take 45 mins to get a Pizza?! Dining there takes some time also, but the time it takes to get food to the take is awful. Waiters are nice local high school kids. The management of the place needs to change. Take out and dine in both take too long. The food is good but if service continues to suck, it might be best to travel to the other side of town. read more

Our meal started with garlic knots and fried calamari. The calamari was exceptional and prepared perfectly. There was enough sauce and lemons. This was one of the best tasting I have had I a while. The only miss was the server forgot to leave a spoon for the sauce. We both had house salads that included a variety of vegetables and olives. There was also plenty of blue cheese and it was quite tasty. My entree was chicken parm with whole wheat penne pasta. The chicken was fried crisp which i prefer. The sauce was good and wasn't excessively salty. The chicken was two nice slices which left me stuffed. The other entree was lasagne which was a huge piece. I had a taste and it will be what I have on my next visit. This piece was so big that after appetizers, most of it was a take home. My only thing I will warn you is this place is rocking on a Saturday night. There was youth baseball team and enough others to make it quite loud. During the week it is probably fine. read more

I'm torn between giving this placed 3 1/2 stars and four stars. Their food is great, their selection is fantastic. I think their salads are insanely good. What I didn't appreciate is that I originally made an order for delivery, and then I switched it to pick up before they started to make the food because my friend decided she would go get it. While they did remove the one dollar delivery fee, they kept the tip the same. I had originally gave a 20% tip because I assumed it was going to the person who would be delivering our order and I wanted to make sure that the person got a nice tip. Not that I don't think that the people preparing the food deserve a tip, but maybe not a 20% tip because there was no "service" as we didn't dine in their restaurant, they didn't deliver it to our house. So I was a little disappointed that they did not confirm the pricing prior to shifting it to delivery. If you all tip 20% on a pick up order, set me straight. I'm not closed to feedback. We've ordered many times for delivery and pick up. Second time eating in, definitely the way to go. Special menu had Shrimp Francese over pappardelle with arugula and grape tomatoes, we both spotted it and ordered it. This was a really good choice, well done, right amount of white wine sauce, and 6 nice size shrimp, great pasta - all fresh and light. Came with salad: fresh iceberg lettuce, red onion, grape tomatoes - I really liked the white balsamic vinaigrette. For a quick appy, we both ordered a slice of pizza, how can you not? All in all a great meal, and great service. So what threw us off? Very loud with only 6 out of about 24 (?) tables occupied - same last time. Pizza was good but makes no sense that it's from an 18" pie when you eat there but call and order a "large" and is shrinks to 16"? And it really would be nice to include the prices on the 'Special' menu. Again, we really enjoyed our meal and had our minds set but $30.00 seems high for the entrée. Still 5 stars. We went to Mangia for an easy Sunday birthday dinner. We ordered an appetizer (scallops with a sweet mango chili sauce), two salads, the chicken parm, and the farfalle Palermo. Ugh. Delicious. So much food. Our waiter and the bus person were both great and both spoke so highly of different menu items. Your balsamic dressing is like one of my all time favorite foods. We also order pizza pretty often. We always receive our delivery within a reasonable amount of time. The delivery people are always kind and our orders are always correct. The pizza has gone downhill because it is less consistently good than in 2016. For example, this past week I ordered a grandma's style margarita pie, but it did not have any basil on it, the dough was under-cooked, and there was only one slice of mozzarella per slice. This is not just a "Pizza" place, it's an Italian restaurant. Great food and the portions are large enough for two (2) people. As far as pies what can say, "YES" they have any kind. If you can think about it they have always been more then will to make it "Your way". The fact they do not have alcohol is the only reason why I could not give them a 5 star. That in mind you do save by bringing your own wines. As long as you know beforehand what you are all going to eat. You can never go wrong with a good "Red" at at this place.! read more

I came back to Mangia after years and I was pleasantly surprised. My first experience wasn't great here but this one was much better. We started with the calamari siciliano and it was a nice appetizer. The sauce was delicious although it did make the calamari soggy. I probably prefer the classic calamari better but this was a good take on it. Flavor was spot on and I loved the capers. The pasta fagioli was delicious. It was light and had plenty of pasta and beans. So good. I honestly didn't have high hopes for the eggplant parm but it was very good. The eggplant was fried nicely and still had good texture. It is a huge portion and comes with pasta and soup/salad. We also tried the shrimp scampi and it was also nicely done. My wife also tried a slice of pizza with pesto, vodka sauce, and regular sauce on it. It was a thin grandma style slice and was very good. We all were very happy with the meal and would give it 4 stars. It was packed in here too. They have a takeout side and also a dining room. Both were slammed on Saturday. I'm sorry to say last night's meal at Mangia was not quite as good as previous times there. Mostly, although our server was personable, she was way to busy to be efficient. We asked for wine glasses when we arrived, & waited quite some time for her to come by & be reminded we never received them. I think she was a bit embarrassed by that & retrieved them right away. I understand if you are busy & forget, but the fact that it took her so long to come back to the table for us to remind her was a problem. The food quality here is very good. I had the Chicken Amorone which I didn't realize I had had before. It was very good (again). However, again, the service was lacking. We waited a very long time for anything we wanted. I would return here. The food is good, atmosphere is good, however I think they need to look at things. The place was packed by 6:30; maybe you need more staff? I guess my tip is, don't go on a weekend, go during the week. read more

Ordered the same pie that we bad back on 7/10/16 and am happy to say that it was terrific. When ordering, I did not tell them I had a previous problem and the pie, as I said was terrific. Used to be such a great place back when they first opened ... but now the food is salty and wayyy over priced for Jackson (and I don't mean pandemic/food shortage high prices, as their prices were increasing far before that). I keep giving them another try here and there because I really mean it when I say they had the BEST pizza ANYWHERE and they had some of the best staff I've ever seen -- but I've instead been disappointed by terrible delivery with cold and/or missing food, new staff that is rude, and food that is straight up disappointing especially for the price. read more
