My born and raised South Floridian friend turned me on to this place and billed it as a classic old Florida dinner and it did not disappoint. They've kept its retro charm with vibrant Florida colors and style. My friend ordered their "TV Dinner" lunch special which was Salmon which he says is his favorite. I was in the mood for dessert so I got the coconut cake. It's was so fresh and topped with a flaky coconut icing. The cake itself was nice and moist and full of flavor. This vintage ambiance should nor be much of a surprise as Howley's Restaurant has been around since 1950. Even their motto "Cooked in sight, must be right" just hardens back to a different time (and many old timers woukd say a better time). For any restaurant to have been in business for over seventy years, Howley's Restaurant must be doing something right. Think about it, when Patrick J. Howley first opened Howley's Restaurant back in 1950, the United States was just five years out of World War II and the Korean War just began that year. "All About Eve" received fourteen Oscar nominations in 1950. Out of those fourteen Oscar nominations, "All About Eve" won "Best Motion Picture," "Best Director," "Best Supporting Actor," "Best Screenplay," "Best Sound Recording," and "Best Costume Design, Black-and-White," Diners Club introduced the first modern credit card and in a speech in February of 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy claimed that there were over two hundred communists in the U.S. State Department, beginning his war on the influence of communism in this country (and destroying a lot of lives in the process). Dr. Richard Lawler performed the first organ transplant and Charles M. Shulz's first "Peanuts" cartoon strip appeared in seven newspapers. This world certainly has changed since Howley's Restaurant opened back in 1950 and to see a business still viable today from that bygone time is not only a wondrous thing, but a comforting thing. The hard rock band Cinderella sang in a song "the more things change, the more they stay the same" and Howley's Restaurant is a living testament to that belief. Howley's Restaurant has some great breakfast offerings. They also have a great menu that offers sandwiches, meatloaf, burgers and since West Palm Beach is along the Florida coastline, they do offer several seafood options. Being from New Jersey, I love a good diner influenced menu and Howley's Restaurant has a great selection of great food. I've been here a few times and the food is pretty good. It's overall flavorful and love the fact you don't have to pay extra to get sweet potato fries like most places. Enjoyed the portobello mushroom burger and my fiancé the Coney Island loaded hot dog. The ambiance is pretty eclectic, super casual. I wanted to try Howley's again after my last average visit. I would like to say...it was good! We had breakfast with our puppers! Yes they are dog friendly but only outside seating. They have water bowls for your fellow doggie in case they get thirsty. How sweet! We ordered a build your own omelette, açaí bowl, and the southern eggs Benedict. I have to say the Benedict was delicious. It has poached eggs over pulled pork over cornbread. I thought it was an odd combination, but it was sweet and savory! The only thing on the plate that was a bit bland were the home fries. I feel like the chunks are too big for it to get a crispy texture. Also, the açaí bowl wasn't bad. It was too pretty to eat! My bf ordered his usual mushroom, bacon omelette and he enjoyed it. You must try their jam! Apparently it's homemade. I think our breakfast experience was a lot better than our dinner experience. I'm compelled to write these bad review despite years of loving this place. My last few times have been epic fails, most recently A simple cheeseburger and fries order, at the counter where I was the only person late at night when no more customers came in. From placing the order to complaining why was taking so long 26 minutes transpired, another seven passed by before a medium rare burger with a side of fries and a thin sauce of apology presented itself. They were melting the cheese I was told in the final seven minutes. I ate a french fry. It was warm not piping hard. It's small, it's older, far from pristine, but none of that matters when you get the food. It all comes together to create the restaurant's charm. Absolutely freaking amazing!! Upon arriving it's like hmmmm.... this place isn't all that... I mean it's a old, vintage diner, I swear it has the original decor but it's a diamond in the rough for sure! The Staff make you feel welcome, they are all friendly and quick to help. Our waiter was super awesome, however I can't recall his name because once he brought out the screwdriver drink I was in Party mood!! (Man it was a great drink). I ordered the shrimp and grits which is actually a lunch item so if you are there for breakfast just ask for it as it won't be on the menu, my husband ordered the French toast and man we were both pleasantly surprised, best damn grits and French toast hands down, the portions are large and the food was fresh and so delicious! Howley's is one of those restaurant's that is so awful it makes you wonder how anyone can eat this stuff. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items but if what we tried is indicative of the whole menu than I don't see anything being good. The poor-quality ingredients used and an indifference to any cooking finesse is lacking. Big time. My Mac and Cheese was overcooked mush topped with a disgusting cheese like product. Even the color of the "cheese" was strange. A turkey platter was served with stuffing that really was just hard bread. The turkey was thick and dry and no matter how much gravy was poured on top of it - it was just not edible. My niece ordered French Toast - now really it takes a lot to mess up French Toast but Howley's did it. It was dry and flavorless and just thrown on to the plate like they didn't care. It was the worst French Toast I ever had and I think that sums up the food at Howley's. Howley's was terrible and one of the worst restaurants I've been to in South Florida. read more

Have not been here in a while. Went with some friends and took the dog. We did not wait too long maybe 10 minutes. We were seated outside, the place was not packed but was busy. We had a bit of a wait until the server finally appeared with water and ice for the dog without asking. He even offered salmon for the dog as well which I took. We placed our orders and waited. Once the food arrived we dived in. I had the crab hash and my friend had the corned beef hash. The crab hash had large chunk of potatoes with green bell peppers, and way to many onions. Came with two poached eggs smothered in hollandaise sauce and bacon on the side. Also four pieces of toast. Definitely a lot of food. The corned beef hash came with two eggs and slices of tomatoes. The food was plentiful, I usually just get eggs and pancakes here but I tried something different. The food was ok. The server Taylor was very good. I couldn't believe it had been about a decade since the last time I ate at Howley's. I used to frequent it a lot when I went to school in Lake Worth, but have lived in NYC since. I was glad to see in many ways it was unchanged. My go-to order is the chicken philly with sweet potato fries. Just so good. I also got a cheese quesadilla which hit the spot. Their sweet tea is perf. If you're unfamiliar with the restaurant, it has a classic 50's diner feel but with fun, eclectic touches. It was really nice to see some Pride decor as well! My friend struggled to find a full mustard bottle, and they were a bit crusted. Also, service was a little slow--but to be fair we went in around 3pm on a Friday. Still very friendly nonetheless! Obviously I'm just showing the bacon in the bottom photo for comparison, but seriously? Is this an April Fools joke? I'm not one to run and post a review without discussing in person, and tonight, the waiter had the opportunity to discuss this with me and he chose not to. I asked if there were two types of BLT's because the one tonight is very different than the one I ordered on Friday. He said no, only one type of BLT. I offered to show him a photo and he walked away to get the check; no additional conversation. So, I paid, posted this review, and I'm off. If this were my first experience, I'd give them 1 star. Based on my first experience, I rated a 3. I will definitely be back hopeful that my Friday experience with good quality and service is the same again and tonight was an isolated incident to what I thought was an amazing diner. read more

Found this place via Yelp and wanted to try it. The reviews were right, the food is great! We had French toast, eggs and potatoes. Everything was tasty! The service was good, waitress seemed to be a little high, she was excited, spoke fast and was laughing for not apparent reason. But it was was hilarious to observe her with other people. Very entertaining! The kitchen was busy, food took time but it was worth it. The ambience wants to be nice, they have large display of paintings from local artists with prices. It has a 50's dinner style but it also seem that old. The walls were dirty, there is mold growing and very evident, and it seems it was cleaned 3 months ago. That's why I am not giving them all five stars. I'm sure they can do a better job cleaning the place, the walls, the floors. Ask to be seated outside and you will avoid seeing all this. To be fair, we ate inside so I'm not sure if outside is cleaner but at least you won't have to breathe the mold! read more

Howley's has been around since 1950 and somehow they've managed to preserve the 50's diner charm while also adding a more modern flare. The walls are covered in art, most of which is for sale! I absolutely love that they support local artists! The crab cakes are fantastic, so much crab meat and not a ton of breading. The Mahi sandwich is fresh and a huge portion of fish. All of the portions are very generous actually! The Mac and cheese is my favorite side dish. So cheesy and good.
