Howley's was simply amazing. It had been talked up a lot, so I had high expectations and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is decked out in 50's decor (it's been around since then), and the menu reflects it. My favorite thing was the TV Dinner menu option, which changes daily. They make you a meal with a side of vegetables and a brownie, just like a TV Dinner. The meatloaf sandwich was delicious and everyone's portions were huge at my table. I liked how the food was cooked right in front of you. It was old school and homey. We waited a little bit but it was Sunday so we understood. We sat at the bar and were only acknowledged 3 times- for our drink choices, to ask for another drink because their soda machine needed changed, and take our order. That's it. We had to ask another person walking by to refill our drinks and ask for silverware. My order was also wrong. I couldn't even ask for a redo because the bartender was constantly taking phone orders. The soda machine couldn't be fixed because they needed a manager to change it so we had to pick a different one. After all these years that I've been living in WPB, (which is all my life) I can't believe I've never tried this place! I'm so sad that it took me 23 years to go here. Once you walk in, you are greeted with local artwork around the walls of the restaurant which I believe you could purchase. Our waitress was attentive and the ambience made you feel comfortable and relaxed. My boyfriend and I had the crabcake sandwich which comes with a side. There was a generous amount of crab in it that you can taste the freshness! For dessert we decided to try their banana split. I haven't had a banana split in years and this one just took me back to my childhood. The strawberry ice cream had strawberry bits in it, the vanilla is so creamy and the chocolate was the perfect amount of sweetness. I will definitely be back again! P.s. I'm on a work trip with some coworkers and we have a spending limit because our food is being reimbursed, and we definitely thought the food was worth the price point. I came to Howley's with two other people - we are all from Baltimore and got the recommendation from a fellow late night drunkard. And we were really glad about it! As every person who stays up until the morning and drinks a good amount of dark liquor while dancing to the same songs over and over while a disco ball spins from the ceiling...we all got burgers. Medium because = classy. The food was delicious! It was definitely too much to eat in one sitting, so imagine our happy hungover surprise the next morn when we looked in the hotel fridge and found left over burgers! Really cool diner. Traditional dishes done well. They have been around since the 50s so they must be doing something right. The diner has a "hipster" vibe. Local art on the walls, bright murals, staff with piercings and dark eye liner. Even the patrons are cool! And sprinkle in some locals and tourists. I ordered the bunless burger with spinach and sweet potato fries on the side. The patty was done medium rare, nice size and good. The fries were perfectly crispy and lightly salted. Spinach was flavorful with the leaves still slightly crisped, not limped drained of flavor with just the right amount of oil, onions, and fresh garlic. The spinach serving could have been bigger. We had the hot wings for appetizers. Sauce was spicy, but not scorching. The wings were a bit over-sauced. I tried the pot pie. Crust was light, flaky. Generous amount of chicken and sauce. Quite good! The California roasted turkey sandwich on a croissant was had as leftovers and it held up the next day. The onion rings are a must. They use panko to coat. The onions do not slide out of the breading when you bite into it, perfection. Definitely worth regular visits! read more

I've been serving for years and I've never disrespected someone the way the manager Teresa disrespected me and 3 of my friends. Our server was nice and brought us drinks, but before we could order 'Teresa' came Over and told us we were being too loud. (Its 2 am and we are just talking amongst one another. The whole place is loud at 2 am). Then When we thought all was fine she came back to harass us and when I asked her why she came back to continue to talk to us when we made sure we were quite she said " you were looking at me." We had a wonderful brunch at this catchy diner right on the Dixie Highway. The diner environment is fun with lots of local art hanging about for sale. The service was fantastic. This is my favorite spot in Palm Beach County. The food is always delicious and the customer service is always excellent. The breakfast food here is to die for, even just the toast and jam. Breakfast Review - A interesting breakfast spot between West Palm Beach and Lake Worth The Ghost has been to Howley's several times, and so this is a "solid review." If you are looking for an interesting breakfast in a midcentury modern diner, you should check Howley's out. TG rates the Monk as a "B-" a better than average rating. Parking challenges and the noise level hurt Howley's rating. The Howley's is located just south of downtown West Palm Beach (about 3 miles) on Route 1 (a little farther south of City Diner). It is a very long walk from downtown, but a short car or Uber ride. The restaurant has an attached small parking lot (which seems always to be filled on the weekends), there is no street parking on South Dixey Highway in this area, and limited parking on nearby side streets. Howley's is often crowded on the weekend mornings, but the waits are not too long (5-15 minutes). It is a medium sized place. Inside there are booths, some tables and some seats at the front counter. There is also and an outdoor patio on the side of the building. Most seating is for 2 or 4 people, but large crowds could be accommodated but potentially with a longer wait. TG likes to sit at the counter so he can watch the cooks prepare breakfast. Howley's motto (since 1950) is "Cooked in Sight... Must be Right". Howley's has a pretty board menu with a combination of tradition breakfast items (pancakes, omelets, French toast, etc.) along with more interesting items such as: Eggs Florentine, Biscuits with Sausage Gravy, "Eggs Howley's" (toasted English muffin topped with two mini crab cakes, eggs and hollandaise) and TG's favorite Southern Eggs Benedict (sweet cornbread, spicy cooked pork, eggs and hollandaise). Dishes are presented simply. Portions are good. Howley's has a full alcohol license so if you want a "Bloody Mary" or Mimosa you can get one. There is a pressed tin ceiling, and the diner is decorated in mid-century modern decor (the building itself is mid-century modern). The restaurant is bit noisy and while the Ghost was there medium loud music from a "garage band - Black Lips" was playing "Family Tree." The crowd is a 30-50s age crowd (tending closer to 30). Service is a little bit slow and spotty, but friendly. The "facilities" are not great (a bit "rough"). Howley's also offers lunches and dinners (please note this is NOT a review for lunch/dinner - which will be included in a separate future review). The Ghost thinks the coffee is a little bit bitter but not bad, and refills are free. Howley's is about halfway between West Palm Beach and Lake Worth so you can get there from either city fairly quickly. On Saturdays, after 10 am (during the season), and during the week, you can visit the numerous antique shops in the area (called "Antique Row" appropriately). You will find antiques from the 1800-1900s along with art deco and mid-century modern pieces. There are also some interesting art and design shops in this area. Bottom-line - If you are driving and looking for a unique place for breakfast with interesting food, check out the Howley's. I was not at all impressed. After seeing the 60+ years of built up grime on the table legs and base, on the terazzo floor and the side wall of the counter, i should have left, but i wanted to see how the food was. It was ok, but nothing special. The table tops were clean and the one girl was constantly wiping down her work station. So all was not so dirty. They really need to have the place SCRUBBED to remove all that old grime. After that, it could be a really nice place to go to. Definitely nothing fancy though.
