Went to HP Dental expecting basic service... like checking eligibility. Apparently that was too much to ask. The energy was off from the start and I left feeling completely dismissed and unwelcome. I asked if they accepted Medi-Cal the older front desk clerk said not for new patients, I then asked well what kind of Medi-Cal do you take ? She said from your job so I handed her a old card that was in my wallet and told her that this probably is not the provider anymore but I was willing to give her my SSN to check. AND SHE REFUSED TO! Without anything kind of eligibility check she asked the younger clerk something she looked at the OLD card and then stated that my insurance is out of their network... Now how would you know that if you never checked the computer. I feel like she was being very racist and bias. It's 2026 professionalism and equal treatment shouldn't be optional. I had a lovely experience here! My appointment was quick and painless. I was seen right away upon walking in. My previous dentist had sent in my records so they knew I needed X-rays which we took first. They identified a point of concern from the X-rays and referred me to a specialist. I'm super grateful they mentioned it! The teeth cleaning was quick and easy. They let me know their thoughts on my teeth and how I've been caring for them. Overall, the staff were super friendly, helpful, and even funny. Facilities were spotless and felt new. Very happy with my choice of dentist. read more

I'm a new patient and I'm incredibly grateful to have found Dr. Pham and his team. It's been an (embarrassingly) long time since I've been to the dentist, and I had been experiencing slight discomfort - I knew a visit was long overdue. I was extremely anxious at my first appointment, but Dr. Pham and his team put me at ease with their kindness and knowledge. I've had multiple appointments now with Dr. Pham and although I'm anxious every time, he and his team continue to calm my nerves; he answers any questions I have, shows me models and goes in-depth on the science behind it all, and during a procedure even took progress photos of my teeth so I knew what my teeth looked like before, during, and after the work he'd done. He took his time, even when we encountered a minor setback (which added more time to my appointment) but did not stop his patience with me, nor his attention to detail in his work, and his attempts to make sure I was comfortable at all times (constantly asking if I'm okay, to let him know if I felt pain/discomfort, or if I needed a break). I came here after reading all the other yelp reviews since I was looking for a new dentist. I called them up, told them my insurance and got an appointment that weekend. I was running some errands and finished early so I just stopped by almost an hour earlier than my appointment time. The front desk was extremely friendly. I sat down and did my paperwork on the ipad. Then I got called in right away to get my x-rays done. The dentist assistants were all extremely nice! I met with the dentist and he reviewed my teeth and started the cleaning! Overall, all of the staffs are helpful and welcoming. It was a quick cleaning and I was happy with it! They have their own parking lot in the back and that was where I parked. The office is clean and well kept. 10/10 from me! Great experience at the dentist, since we all know this isn't anyone favorite place to be. read more

Came here for the longest time to get my teeth cleaned. It was painful at the beginning to get my teeth cleaned by Dr. V but someone must have complained pretty bad because he has improved. It has always been an OK experience here, I like that they continuously reach out to you to remind you when your 6 months is up and you need another check up, and they don't give up as well if you happen to miss their call or say you don't know when to come in. They'd keep calling! It wasn't until my last check up that I decided to go elsewhere. I have never had a cavity in my life and Dr. V told me that I was having a minor one in the back of my tooth. I decided to go to a different dentist shortly after for a second opinion and that dentist said it was definitely not a cavity because my teeth look super healthy. It was a small stain from coffee or wine and advised me to carefully brush back there more. read more

I've been faithful to one and only one dentist my entire life: Dr. Pham (and associates). They've taken care of my teeth since day 1, but I was too young to have an opinion back then. My last check-up was 5 years ago, which makes me look hella bad, but I finally made time to schedule a visit to the dentist after realizing that I was long overdue for a cleaning. Better late than never!!! This dentist receives primarily Vietnamese patients because the Vietnamese community is tight like that in Oakland, but anybody and everybody can come through. Before you do anything, I suggest that you call ahead of time and make an appointment so that you're not waiting forever with a walk-in! They have an honor code (seriously, it's framed and proudly displayed in the waiting room) that ensures patients are seen on or before their scheduled appointment time. Here's a snapshot of my 45-minute appointment: I came in 15 minutes early to my scheduled appointment time, but they didn't seem to mind. Signed in at the front, sat in the waiting room, and waited for about 10 minutes until the receptionist called me back up to fill out some forms on their iPad. They finally went eco-friendly and got rid of all the paper files! Within minutes, they took me to the back where they took a full set x-rays of my teeth. This took longer than it should've because of my gag reflex, but the technician was really patient with me and gave me tips on suppressing it while I was biting down on the contraption. The doctor who was unfortunate to have me as a patient was David, who made the entire experience quick and enjoyable with MINIMAL pain. The second he came through, even before he got to introduce himself, I was ready to crap my pants, but he was assuring and calmed my scary ass down. No cavities for me this time around (David was so proud!), which surprised me, having not been to the dentist in 5 years and considering all the crap I eat. He gave my teeth the professional cleaning it desperately needed and was very gentle throughout the entire process! Once he finished his part, an assistant took over and ended my cleaning with a polish and fluoride treatment. I can still feel some slight pain from the cleaning at more sensitive areas, but David did one hell of a job removing any trace of tartar. He was also fun to talk to while I was under the light, making the experience that less painful to lie through, talking about school and how I managed to avoid the dentist for 5 years. I highly recommend him for your appointments - he gets the struggle of going to the dentist!! From the short wait time to the friendly staff, I had such a pleasant experience here that I HAD to contribute my two cents. This one's for you, David! My family and I have been coming to Dr. Pham for all of our dental needs for years and we have never been disappointed. The treatment rooms are clean. The tools are, needless to say, sanitary. And, the quality of his work is impeccable. He is very thorough and careful. Do not dread having him do your semi-annuals, fill your cavities, do your bridges, root canals, or any other needed work. Sounds too good to be true? I know - root canals! But, rest assured that he will make sure that you are comfortable and experience minimal to zero pain. He is also really good with kids. His waiting room almost always has at least 3 kids who are in for some kind of dental work, but I hardly ever hear any crying, tantrums, or complaints that is dental-chair related. Other pros - the staff (front desk and hygienists) are super friendly. They always know your name and have their ducks in a row. Also, there is usually parking in the back lot, but if you happen to be in on a busy day, you can typically find a spot within a 1-block radius of the office. Keep in mind, though, that everyone in Dr. Pham's practice tries to keep on top of their schedule and case load. But, patients often run late and there are sometimes walk-ins. Nonetheless, all of this factors into your wait time, but never your quality of care. You can put money on that. Also, the office is situated in a neighborhood with a lot Chinese and Vietnamese markets and restaurants so you can definitely treat yourself after managing a visit to the dentist. read more

About two years ago, I left my job to go back to school. I crammed in last minute PCP, gyno, dentist, etc. appointments in the last few weeks of my insurance. I was back to being a poor student for a while; however, now I just started a new full-time job and figured it was time to bite the bullet and visit the dentist. My friend recommended Dr. Du Ley with Hai Pham's practice. He has a great personality and explains things really well. He did my cleaning HIMSELF. I think every dentist's office I have ever been to a dental hygienist did the cleaning. Everyone at the office is really friendly and nice. Also, the pricing is amazing. My friend said I should ask for a student discount, but after they told me the price I was so happy and I didn't want to seem greedy by asking for a discount. I'm surprise people actually rate this place a 5 stars. I think overall this place only deserves at most a 3.5 star. I've gone to Dr. Pham since I was a child and never had another dentist until I recently started getting Orthodontic and Periodontics (gum) treatment. Then I realized that the other doctors were more thorough with their cleaning compared to Dr. Pham. I have nothing against them but I just think that he's not as thorough as he used to be back when he first started his practice. Note - If you have an appointment. You would still have to wait after you check in for another 10 minutes before being seen. Not quite sure why but probably because they have A LOT of drop-ins. read more

I have been to the Pham Hai office twice now. Once during an emergency because I couldn't get a hold of my regular dentist and once to get a filling. Although it is not the fanciest place and kind of third-worldish, both times the office help and dental staff was very helpful and understanding. I would also like to say that they really pointed me in the right direction when diagnosing my root canal, which probably saved me tons of additional pain, when my old dentist couldn't. I was skeptical that i developed that many cavities in a year since my last appointment with a different dentist so I visited my childhood dentist that I know and trust for an assessment. I usually see my dentist in Michigan but needed to schedule my cleaning (since it was already a few month late) before the end of the year. The group here was wonderful. The hygienists did a good job with my X-rays and cleanings while Dr Le did my exam. Even though he's not my normal dentist, he took the time to do a thorough exam and educate me on ways to take care of my teeth. I really hated going to the dentist because of a childhood trauma when a dentist filled 5 cavities in one day for me when I was 13. So I have tried to avoid going to see any dentist unless it was an emergency. I started going to doctor Pham about 5 years ago when one of my old crown broke, and have kept going back despite the long commute from San Jose. The treatments were great! Dr. Pham was very gentle (minimum pain!) and really thorough. The office and staff have always been very professional and Moon, the office manager, really explained all treatment costs and options without any pressures. I really liked that. Lately, I have been seeing Dr. Le in the same office because Dr. Pham's schedule fills up very quickly (unless you have an emergency and has to have Dr. Pham see you). I found Dr. Le to be very good also and quite gentle and thorough with my treatment. It's a good feeling to have 2 very competent dentists in the same office since they can discuss more complex cases (which I am) with each other and they can provide great care for me if I have an emergency and need treatment right away. I have referred all my family to this office. If I have to rate this office 2 years ago, I would have to give it a 4 star because of the decor. But since then, they have remodeled the office and upgraded all the equipments so it looks really good. I still wish that they can enlarge the waiting room a little bit, but otherwise, it's a really cool place. read more

I was one of those people who were terrified of dentists, which resulted in not seeing a dentist for too many years. When I finally scored a "real" job with benefits, I decided that it was probably best to see a dentist because I didn't want to be 67 year old woman with no/bad teeth. I decided to make an appointment with HP because of their Yelp reputation and proximity from my house. My first visit was last November (2014). The front desk gals were friendly, as was the assistant who did my X-rays. Needless to say, due to my lack of oral care, I had many cavities that needed to be taken care of. Dr. Phu was understanding of my fear and developed a plan to take care of a few cavities at a time. He was extremely social, gentle, and had excellent bedside manners. After a few visits, we had filled all the cavities and I was a free woman! I'm actually sitting in one of his chairs right now as I'm due for my 6 month visit. We're starting a few minutes late, but I don't mind because this place is that great! read more

It's great to find a quality dentist that has Saturday hours. I went in for my first cleaning since moving to the Bay Area about 2 years ago (for shame I know, but work....) A short, convenient walk from my apartment tower I was immediately greeted by the receptionist and manager. Filling out the new patient paper work on their iPad took only a few minutes and then I was immediately taken to get my X-Rays. My official first dental treatment appt was yesterday 4/3/2016. Got four cavities done in one day in about about 2 hours. I found this dentist in Yelp. And I'm. Glad I did I will. Update after every treatment but my dentist who worked on my teeth was Dr. Duy, le and he is the best. He's very specific he showed me before drilling photo and after how he filled them. Never seen pics before. And he was very gentle. And I barely. Felt any pressure. The numb was great. Also a plus is the lady at the front desk . her name is Amy, She's very nice and welcoming. Love them all. So far. You all should consider going here. Outside doesn't look like much but when you go. Inside it's awesome new equipments upscale,clean office. I will. Stick. With them.. And you. My dentist, Dr. Duy Le is fantastic. I'm one of those people who waited several years without going to the dentist out of fear. I found HP Dental Group and now I actually look forward to my 6 month cleaning visits! Dr. Duy Le filled multiple cavities for me knowing I was both afraid and ashamed of my dental situation. He was very clear and up front about the work I needed done and the consequences if I didn't change my dental habits (i.e. never ever going to a dentist). He has such a kind and gentle mannerism about him. He put my nerves at ease and got the job done! He is very thorough, even when I booked at last minute appt. at 5pm he didn't rush me out the door, instead spent over 20 minutes perfecting a filling on one tooth that was giving me a little trouble. I can't speak highly enough of this dental office. Their front office staff and hygienists are also wonderful and so sweet. No one likes to go to the dentist! This is especially true for me (someone who's had braces twice and have gone to numerous dentists in my life). After starting to see Dr. Pham, I have not had the desire to go anywhere else, even when I moved to Mill Valley. Dr. Pham is the best dentist I have ever seen! He is very gentle, polite, very thorough and incredibly thoughtful. When he is not available, I have seen other dentists there, including Dr. Le, and they have all been great! My husband and 2 children go there as well. Dr. Le is especially good with kids, and my kids don't complain about going to see Dr. Pham or Dr. Le. The technicians are all very efficient and helpful and the front desk staff very friendly. My whole family highly recommends this office! read more
