I am appalled how rude and unprofessional the owner is. My 17 month old son was playing with the plastic basket and butter packets by stacking them in the basket. The owner came over in his Halloween costume. Got in my sons face (in costume: a scary mask and bathrobe) and scared my son and took away the basket and butter packets he was playing with. I looked at him in shock and he got in my face and yelled at me for letting him play with it. He then took away my food and told me to eat elsewhere. Gladly I left in shock of how rude he was. In all my life I have never seen anything so unprofessional. If he treats his customers this poorly I can't imagine how he treats his employees. Oh and the burger was terrible. This is the best! If you haven't been here you should try it. The owners are really sweet. All the waitresses are constantly checking on you. My coffee never went cold. Breakfast served all day. Prices are reasonable. You always have the option to do a la carte. I love their biscuits and sausage gravy. They also have regular gravy as an option. The migas are always on point. Everything is cook to order so it comes out hot and fresh. Basically anything you can think of as a condiment is on the table or available to you. They also have counter service for those that don't want a table or booth. If you come during peak hours expect a wait because the food and service is great. No one wants to leave! They have these little facts under the glass on the tables. The one on ours let us know about alcohol served during dinner. Not a huge place but you won't feel crowded when you sit. We do brunch on Sunday as often as we can. I hope they expand the building.Parking is always overflowing when we go. We love the owners. They are both friendly and run a great cafe. Food is delicious. We had Western Omelet and French Toast. The food is wonderful then we also ordered the Memosa it was good too. The wait staff are beautiful , I hear some of them are Cheer leaders for High School in Rowlett/Garland. They are dressed casual and they are very attentive and friendly. I Love this cafe. read more

We've been to Hubbard's a couple of times for lunch. It's nothing fancy, but for a quick lunch close to home, it's good. We don't have a lot of options in Rowlett. I got the club sandwich both times. Mid-morning today, Sunda, my family enjoyed the pleasant and very comfortable uniqueness of Hubbards. The Mexican breakfast plates, fluffy omelettes, steak and grits were enjoyed. My granddaughter felt the grits imperfect, a little watery yet loved her steak cooked just as ordered. My infant grandson was able to slumber off as we dined, not too noisy, yet the restaurant was nearly full. Nice crowd. I definitely plan to return. read more

My husband and I had dinner here, along with only a few other diners and it was pretty awful. His chicken-fried steak was OK. I ordered the chicken and dumplings-yuk. The gelatinous gravy (which a strange, slightly metallic taste) had only a few shreds of chicken and the dumplings were gluey and tasteless. The breads we ordered never showed. We both had a side of Mexican zucchini and corn casserole. Horrible. The zucchini was mushy, as was the bread filling. No corn in sight. I had a cup of fruit consisting of unripe melon and a few grapes. In an effort to salvage this disaster, we both ordered pie: pecan for my husband, turtle for me. His was fine. Mine had a layer of nuts topped by tasteless chocolate pudding and some type of Cool Whip. Hubbard's needs to upgrade their menu or close. We had breakfast here this morning with 4 generations of my family. My 2 year old daughter's great grandfather is a Korea vet and happened to be wearing one of his vet hats. The owner or manager (not sure which) came over and shook his hand, and told him that he thanked him for his service. He proceeded to bring over other vets, some from Iraq, some from Vietnam that were eating at different tables in the restaurant. Made his day to be recognized and thanked. And it made us all even more proud to be with him and to see the great respect he got from others. And the food....delicious! Huge portions! What a great family experience we will remember for a long time to come! read more

I've eaten here many times since it is the closest comfort food to my house, and it just keeps getting consistently worse. Walked in around 1:00 today for lunch. Not very crowded, at least 6 empty booths that I saw. Waitress asks if I want a booth or table, so I said booth since it was just my daughter and me. She sighs and looks around, then says ok, hold on, I guess I'll have to clean one. ??? Why not sit us at one of the 6 empty ones? Weird. Anyway, we order a chicken fried steak meal ($10) to share because it's huge, with fried okra (veggie of the day) and mashed potatoes. The okra was horrible. Tasted like it had been fried in grease that was about two weeks old. They must of used this same grease to make the gravy, because it was just as bad and covering the steak and potatoes. Yuck! I will say the steak was good, minus the gravy. Potatoes were lumpy, but ok. Rolls were good as always. Service, friendlier than it normally is, which was a nice change. But then we go to check out, and they charged me a dollar for the extra plate we asked for. REALLY?? For an extra dirty plate?? That's the final straw. I won't go back. Ballard Street in Wylie is a little farther, but much better food, service, and pies. read more

We ordered food to go from here the very first day we moved to rowlett. I was very unimpressed. The food was soggy and cold by the time we got it home (5 minutes). We have also eaten inside a couple of times but the service is usually very slow and they seem to have a fast turn around, because they were training several people. We had 3 different waitresses in one meal. The dishware is not very clean and the tables seemed like they had been wiped down with a dirty rag. Also, we have always had to wait for a table since we usually only go on the weekends but they have no waiting area other than a small bench which is litterally right next to the hostess stand. So if the bench is occupied, you are standing in the doorway with nowhere to go. I have had breakfast and lunch at this place but not dinner, so maybe it is better in the evenings. read more

Well...... I wanted to like the place based on the 'small town feel,' but......WOW. I don't consider myself as a food snob but when I go to spend my well earned dollar (and we could've gone anywhere) and get very sub par service/food..... I mean, come on guys, it doesn't take much to get it done. Apparently the bar is set too low and now some folks think just because they're open they don't need to bring it at all....:( 1) when you bring food, please bring the right stuff (Party of 4) including 2 kids meals 2) when asked to sub kids fries or fruit for a strip of bacon, please tell me if you can do it or not. Don't do it and then say "oh, I just charged you $3 more for a side of bacon...." .....and you didn't even bring the original side to boot?? 3) when you say "I will fix it." .. DO IT 4) when I asked a lady refilling coffee/water (annoyed looking red-head lady) what do they usually bring with the oatmeal, she replied "brown sugar and milk." "Would you like some?" I said yes........... she brought a 1/4 ramekin full of brown sugar and no milk..... it was barely enough for my wife. 5) when you drop the food (complete order on table) come around at some time and ask if everything is ok.... maybe pre-bus some plates when needed, etc. It's real easy!! ***on a side note, when asked about the mixup of sides, there was no "uneasy dialogue or gestures" as it is always uncomfortable to discuss those anyway. We feel as diners/patrons that it takes very little effort to make things right.... just make a valid attempt! The manager at Hubbard's in Rowlett is a huge jerk. We got there and ordered two Bloody Mary's. They came out with wilted celery and bugs on the celery. We informed the manager and he told us it was pepper. Pepper doesn't have legs last time I checked. Didn't even try to make it right. Once we left my wife tried to call and talk to him and he yelled at her and slammed the phone down in her ear. Customer service here is pretty terrible. read more

Why the one star? We went there on the recommendation of someone I work with recommended for good homestyle cooking. Ordered drinks and had to ask for straws which is no biggie but rim of glass had chip. Gives a place character right. We decided on the specials. I had the chicken fried chicken with country style green beans and mash potatoes. While chicken was moist it was bland. Mashed potatoes were ok nothing to twist and shout about. A lack of seasoning was evident through out entire meal. Oh when we had started to eat she brought out these huge fluffy looking rolls. Looked great but too much yeast was what one person in party mentioned. Wait staff where teenage girls who didn't really wanna be bothered. She checked on gentleman who was seated behind us several times. We never got drinks refilled. As we paid I noticed on a menu if you need something raise your hand. I don't know if this was a joke or meant to be cute but it wasn't. Since I'm not in school I see no reason why to raise my hand for service. So subpar meal equates to subpar service. Terrible service! Went on a Saturday around 1:30 with my husband to get a sandwich. The waitress took our order then joined a group of other waitresses at the bar and we never heard from her again. She actually left about 10 mins later and never came by our table. We saw our sandwich sitting on the ledge and eventually asked another waitress to bring it to us. Never had anyone come by for refills and it wasn't because they were busy-maybe 5 tables with customers. To add to the frustration, once we finally got our check, they charged $1 because we split our sandwich and charged $4.50 for 2 drinks. We had water! Definitely the most unfriendly waitresses in town. The food is always good once you get it but not worth putting up with the sour attitudes. read more

This was my second time coming to Hubbard's. The first time was mediocre so I thought I would give it another try. Sadly, I was let down. Ordered two cheeseburgers and a kids corndog, it took over 30 minutes to get our food and there were only a few more tables seated in our area, yet the food came out lukewarm at best. All the while the waitress barely acknowledged us, she seemed rather apathetic and could really benefit from some hospitality training. Also, when we finally got our food and check we noticed that she charged us $2.85 for the single piece of bacon added to my burger (the menu clearly stated it was $0.90 and was taken care of at the register). The wait staff here are all teenage girls still in highschool or just out, obviously hired to attract a certain clientele and not for their ability to do their jobs. read more

For example we went in before 3 o'clock for their lunch specials, placed our order, yet my daughter and I were charge for the more expensive dinner prices. I'm giving this place 5 stars simply because it's as good as it gets in Rowlett. It's a tiny bit on the pricey side for southern comfort food, however the food is consistently well cooked and is of such a quality that the food will not make you feel sick like McDonald's across the street. The girls are very pretty, and this is a Mom & Pop restaurant, not a franchise. Anybody who gave this place a bad review is an idiot, just go look on Sunday morning, every single car in Rowlett is in Hubbard's parking lot getting brunch. We've been dining here for over a year. We mostly go for breakfast, which is their busiest time. But the AYCE fried catfish draws us in on Friday or Saturday evenings. Breakfast is noisy and crowded but in a good, hometown way. These kind of diners are harder to find than they used to be. The waitstaff are primarily local highschool kids so while they can take your order for adult drinks, someone over 21 will be serving you. Everything is good. When I want a healthier breakfast besides my usual chicken fried chicken with eggs, bisquits & gravy I can order a build your own omelette with spinach, tomato, and swiss cheese. It's a true Texas diner from the atmosphere to the fare. Very reasonable prices. Rarely have we had to wait more than 3 minutes for a breakfast table and lunch and dinner are much less crowded, although I don't understand why because the food is good at anytime. I would have given 5 stars but I always find the salad bar somewhat lacking in variety. But the homemade pies more than make up for it!! Comfort food haven!! read more
