After years of visiting the 24-hour location on Cicero in Oak Lawn, my dad and I finally landed early enough to try the Pulaski location. It may be the original location, or that honor may go to the yet unvisited-by-me third location closer to the Loop, but in any case, this Huck Finn definitely feels different from the one I'm used to. The lighting fixtures, booths, and art all have the same tacky early-2000s feel as the other location, but that's where the similarities end. This one is much smaller, although its dessert-case area has its own tables, and the outside of the building advertises ice cream. This Huck Finn feels like a coffee shop, which is probably why my dad says he likes it more than the "original"--original to us, at least. It has a counter, and while the building looks large from outside, it has about half the seating of Oak Lawn. There's a funky mirror near the bathrooms that makes it look like there's a back dining room--or possibly a Den of Iniquities like the original--but it's all an optical illusion. Service is quick and efficient, as it is at Oak Lawn. Our server, though, was a familiar no-nonsense throwback to an earlier time. Oak Lawn has some of those, but most of its servers are younger women with the thickest Chicago/Great Lakes accents you'll ever hear. (Seriously, although they're all under thirty-five, they sound like they're about to start collecting Social Security.) She was short on small talk, but she made up for it with sass and a whole lot of hard work. The food is good, although the menu is more limited than Oak Lawn's. One thing I don't like is that the menus are flimsy printouts. Oak Lawn at least has laminated pages, although I miss the old multi-page booklet-style menus. Oh well. They have Texas and Alaska donuts here, so it's a legit Huck Finn. It's physically possible to make a left turn onto Pulaski from their parking lot, but I think it's illegal, as you'd have to cross a quadruple yellow line. I spotted two cop cars near here, one when we were arriving, and one when we left, so be careful out there. read more

The staff did an amazing job making a pizza burger for me without a bun or cheese. I really appreciated the hospitality and the attention to detail. And it only took the kitchen about ten minutes to make my meal. Highly recommend Huck Finn Restaurant on Pulaski. I'll be going back soon. read more

I went on a busy Saturday morning and was able to get a table. The server was nice and the coffee was great. I ordered their chorizo skillet but wanted something other than potatoes. The waitress recommended some potato spirals because they didn't have diced potatoes. Let me say, it was the best decision ever. The place is very affordable and even though it started getting more packed as we were eating, our server was very attentive. She brought coffee as soon as we were low. Classic old school restaurant. They have a.very nice diners outer as well as booths and tables. The veteran service staff was on point. I had the biscuits and sausage gravy. To be honest, $10 for that thing is not terrible and it can come in a 50/50 split of glazed and chocolate icing. However, I love me a good monte cristo, which is basically 2 slices of french toast with meat and cheese in the middle. I ordered 3 monte cristos this time, and for $10, there are better monte critstos out there. Their french toast were smaller and not very fluffy. Always a great experience when coming here. I tried the buffalo wings here for the first time and I can truly say that I will no longer go to Buffalo Wild Wings or Wings Stop. I went in solely because I read the word Donuts. They seemed to have a really good selection of flavors and types of donuts and other pastries. If I knew I could eat them all I would have gotten one of everything. I ended up settling for a few glazed donuts. When it came to the flavor, I would LOVE to visit here again, but the texture was not my favorite. They were a tab bit dry. Compared to a fresh box of Walmart glazed or 7-11 bowtie glazed the moisture was not up to par. I stopped by to try the donuts. I have passed each one and I finally got enough time to be able to stop. They have a variety of donuts available. I got a bakers dozen, which included Boston Creams, Red Velvet, Cake, Old Fashioned, Coconut, Glazed, and multiple more. I also got their cinnamon roll. Granted it was later in the day, but I found that all the ones I had were dry and left your mouth with a film or dryness. They weren't bad, just dry. The cinnamon tool lacked enough icing. The service deserves 5 stars, they were very friendly and made it a very enjoyable experience. They were willing to explain anything and it was great working with them. On November 26th Sunday, we decided to try this place again. Last time food was Ok but It was a dirty table and floors etc. So maybe It was a one time thing. So we sat at counter bar so we do not wait for a table. Many servers on kitchen alley and NONE WERE CLEANING!!! Dirty hands touching everything and everyone's bread!!! The servers placing "clean" dishes on top of the pictures dirty counters and some servers even getting gunk on their fingers and wiping it too on the counter and then GETTING BREAD with bare hands!!! We sat in front of kitchen door and lord help them! When that door opened!! So dirty inside. Chemicals by food containers and food also in the open. Floor was so dirty!!! Never again!!! My husband and I came here for breakfast and the minute we walked in the door a woman named Inka was arguing with another employee. This was very unwelcoming. She did not even acknowledge us to say "Someone will be right with you". Thankfully, Margie, our server, made us feel welcome. Margie was kind and attentive, even though the restaurant was very busy. I've had a few visits to this location but mostly for just donuts. This was my first full dining experience here and yes, I still went home with a half dozen donuts!! We were seated quickly and service was fast. The cream of chicken soup with rice was more like gravy and sure enough when my roast turkey special arrived it was covered in gravy that looked and tasted like my soup but without the few grains of rice. There was so much gravy the rest of the food was hidden. The turkey was OK but not cut off a turkey any time recently. I'm assuming a pre frozen portion size bag or such. The mashed potatoes were good. The stuffing had way too much sage and raisins in it to take more than two bites. I was not impressed. The wait staff were good about clearing used dishes and refilling the soda. Before we left I picked up a half dozen donuts that were tasty as usual. The selection was pretty good for 9pm. Overall the dinner food including my soup and the roast turkey special was below average. The service and the donuts are what saved things here. I couldn't even get a picture in of the kids menu french toast that cost $5, because the ten year old was done with the one slice before I got a chance. Got here after a late night gig. Seating was comfortable for our large group. The service was beyond great. Our waitress was very attentive (I wish I knew her name) she recommend stuff on the menu, she was friendly and courteous. As far as the food goes, it was surprisingly good. They offer great three course meals (Soup, entree, dessert) I had the chicken fingers (supposedly they are popular) with BBQ and Buffalo sauce. My group said positive things about their orders too. Err...meh? I've been to both Huck Finn's. What this place lacks compared to the one on Archer is pervy old Asian men. Other than that, they are pretty much the same. I had their cackling good eggs and a crispy chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was a disaster - the breading was kinda yucky and the chicken hardly had any flavor to it. The cream of mushroom soup was pretty good, however. The cackling good eggs came with sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, and hash browns. It was pretty good. My friend had the meatloaf sandwich, which he thought was good, but looked like crap to me. The food is average, but we had an awesome waitress that was extremely friendly and cool. This place is like an old school diner not too far from Midway Airport if you are looking for a breakfast/brunch place. They have a variety of breakfast items to choose from. They also have non-American dishes, such Greek and Mexican. So I'd you are craving something different, this restaurant has EVERYTHING! Went for brunch before flying out of Chicago and I got to say what a way to leave. The food here is amazing! And it was a great break from the storm that was going on outside. The restaurant is a bit small in comparison to the crowd they get so it takes a bit to get seated but once you do service is quick and great! Surprisingly my favorite dish was the chicken noodle soup, I think I have to say it's the best darn chicken soup I've ever had! I could not get enough. I ordered a sandwich which was also delicious but definitely did not compare to he soup.
