We came here as our first meal in Chicago. It was recommended by one of the hotel clerks in Marriott. We were hungry and it was too early to be checked in at 7am. So we decided to try this spot, as they had vegetarian options for me and my wife. We ordered the veggie egg Benedict with hash browns, our son had banana Nutella crepe, and my friend had the bone steak with hash browns. Egg Benedicts was good but the hash browns were hard and under cooked. I've always ordered hash browns from different restaurants and they usually come done and toasted/crunchy so I was in an understanding that they come like this by default from any establishment. Was a little disappointed. I was too hungry and too early in the day that I didn't complain or sent it back, and just ate it anyway. I tried some of the crepe and it was just okay. My friend mentioned the tbone steak was just alright and his hash browns were undercooked and he end up not eating it too. Overall this place was just alright. read more

Staff was nice but the food was mediocre. There were 5 of us, 3 of us who ordered hashbrowns all thought they were undercooked. You know, luke warm, soft and slimy. Any other time I've order hashbrowns at any other cafe, hashbrowns have been crispy. Husband and I ordered Florentine Benedict's which were just ok. The spinach was dried out and flavorless. We'd headed West out of Chicago to visit Winston's Sausages - purveyors of the Irish meats my partner likes. Next door was this pancake house and we walked across the lot to get breakfast. Good choice! He had bacon and sausage on a sandwich. I had the country fried steak. We both had cups of tea. Everything was very good. The restaurant is clean, prices Chicago average, and service was both entertaining and attentive. When I asked our waitress for directions to the ladies room she gave a well rehearsed and funny response: straight ahead, don't turn left (kitchen) they'll put you to work; don't turn right (men's room), a man will scream. All day breakfast close to the Airport. What more do you need? On this trip, I ordered the open-face roast beef sandwich, which I mistakenly assumed would be a beef manhattan. Absolutely an elite breakfast place in the area. Came here after a night out with my girlfriend and decided to check this place out. Place was clean, we were attended to immediately, and the service from the waitress was impeccable. I had a meat lovers skillet and my girlfriend had the breakfast special (2 eggs, 2 sausages, bacon, and a choice of pancakes, waffles, or french toast for only $12!!). It was cooked to perfection and wasn't too expensive at the end of it. This location is very close to Midway airport which is the reason why I stopped in. Quick meal before or after a flight Unfortunately the foos isn't that great. Nothing was seasoned... like nothing. The service was pretty good but that varies from person to person. They even charged .50 for lemons for the water! Low review due to service was not good. They sat us & gave us water - walked away & we waited over 10 minutes. We had to ask for service - bad start. Lady looked annoyed that we asked for service - Ordered food & drinks - they came out quick. Food was bland - 4 of us and we had 3 skillets 2 were skirt steak for hubby and I which had little seasoning. I added lots of salt and pepper to add some kind of flavor w ketchup. My sister had avocado one tomato looked bad. Brother n law had special eggs - bacon - and French toast nothing special. Anyways nice amount of food but the skirt steak wasn't worth $16 per plate. Honestly, surprised by all of the high reviews. While the waitress was friendly (when she decided to stop by), my food was average and my copilot said it was the worst omelette he's ever had in his life. My meal was a basic breakfast with eggs, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, bacon, and toast. This is pretty tough to screw up and it did the job for my meal. The place is run down and beat up, just like any other small diner. The menu is way too large which makes you question what they can actually prepare well. Overall, there are too many breakfast spots in this area for us to give them another shot. read more

The kitchen staff needs a little training about temperature but otherwise the food was great diner fare and a good value. I felt good after eating a big meal here. Waitress Jacqueline gets 5 stars for being great at everything. Friendly, fast, accurate, and knows stuff. The table busser and coffee guy was great too. The restroom is small and didn't have coat hooks or paper towels, but it was clean. People wear layers in Chicago winters so coat hooks help. I'm not a fat guy but it was really hard to wash my hands because of the space constraints. Free parking in their lot. Midway Airport is right across the intersection. Stopped in for a quick lunch before my flight out of MDW. If they were any closer, they'd be on airport property. I ordered a Ham and Cheese Club (with a slice of onion) and my GF a Crispy Chicken Salad. The complimentary cup of "Stuffed Pepper" soup came highly recommended by the server. It was lukewarm and bland, but edible. My GF's salad was 85% iceberg lettuce with a dry and cold cut-up chicken breast portion on top. This chicken was barely edible and clearly a poor-quality provision. My Ham and Cheese Club was missing the requested slice of raw onion. I asked the server to bring me one, which she did. While adding the onion, I noticed that it also was missing the cheese. I spoke to the manager, who apologized and blamed the "new guy in the kitchen". I asked them to simply bring me a tuna salad sandwich, as I was concerned about the time and my making my flight. Wolfing down the sandwich, I asked for the check. I was presented with a check which still included my Ham and Cheeseless Club. I asked the server, and she told me that the tuna sandwich was the same price. I asked for a menu and she returned with an adjusted bill for the tuna sandwich as "deluxe". It was still $2+ less than the Club, but I would have liked to have not been charged for the lackluster soup and the fries. I believe that that would have been a nice gesture for my inconvenience and having to eat after my GF was almost finished with her lunch. The service was solid, our waitress was attentive and helped us with some of the unique items on the menu. I had the spicy chicken omelet with pancakes. One of our favorite spots for breakfast near Midway. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but their food is delicious and their service is always great. We typically order take out but we've dined in a few times and had nothing but friendly service. The atmosphere inside has the feel of a small town diner. It's homey and comfortable. Now on to the food itself. We always order a skillet when we order breakfast and none of their skillets ever disappoint. It's a hearty breakfast of eggs, meat (if you prefer meatless there is at least one meatless skillet on the menu), and potatoes. The portions are very generous and we almost always have leftovers if only one person is eating it. You really can't go wrong with the skillets. My personal favorite menu item is the country fried steak and eggs. It is always delicious with the perfect amount of country gravy. It comes with eggs, hash browns or diced potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. Again the portions are generous and I almost always have leftovers. The food is always fresh, even when we order takeout, and it's truly delicious. We also really enjoy their French toast and pancakes. And if we go for lunch, their salads are our go to. They are always fresh and very generously sized. You really can't go wrong here with the delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, generous portions, and what I consider to be very affordable prices. Friendly staff. Saw wait person help a customer remove price tag she saw hanging out. Clean and friendly place with frequent customers, chit chatting away by the kitchen like they are family. What a great stop if you're in the Midway area! We needed a place to crash and get a quick bite before taking off on a flight, and we picked this, despite the unassuming exterior. Sweet staff, a waiter who made us laugh and was there with that classic pot of diner coffee before we could even ask, and a nice clean, bright dining area with lots of elbow room. It was as bright and shiny as an IHOP minus the chain restaurant feel. I love mom and pop diners but I don't always love how cramped they are. This was nice and roomy and nobody was breathing down my neck a table over. Both of us got chicken friend steak and biscuits and for $7 apiece it was such a massive amount of food. I'm rarely felled by a big meal but this one did me in. I made it 3/4 of the way through the steak and biscuits (which were delicious) and a few bites into my two eggs and hashbrowns. Was sad I couldn't take it on the plane with me. Overall, great experience and a nice relaxing stop right by the airport. read more
