Hucks is hands down the best catfish restaurant in North Texas. I come here often and always leave full and happy. I ate lunch here and was less than impressed. I've had better fish at Captain D's. I sat first ( party of one) before two other tables that consisted of 2-4 people per party. I was served last and had to see other people get my fish. Now the food the fish was bland and unflavored, the black eyed peas again were very bland, and the Cole slaw had a consistency of apple sauce. A part of the menu stated its Mississippi style catfish. If they make bland food that has less flavor then hospital food they can keep it. You'll drop around 12 bucks for two pieces of catfish two veggies and a water. I read this place has been open for twenty years on its website. I have no clue how next time I'm in the Sherman Denison area and want fish I'll just get fish sandwich from McDonald's because it's around the same quality. read more

I can sum up this place in one word: "AWESOME". Huck's Catfish is apparently a hidden little gem on the way to Lake Texoma. I was with a group of guys on our way to a camping night with our kids. We would be hard to forget because we had four male adults with eight kids on a long table in the middle of a room surrounded by other patrons. Our waitress was extremely helpful and patient with all of us. Considering the number of people in our party, the number of kids, and the lack of wives to keep us all in line, the staff did an amazing job. The food was over the top awesome. It was the talk of the night, especially the Pecan Cobbler. It was like having a pecan pie right out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting over the top of it, but better! Like extra brown sugar and extra pecans. I thought about it the next morning and considered heading back from the campsite the next day. The catfish was hot and tasty. Let me start by saying I've grown up eating fish-I know what good fried fish tastes like but this place- well, lets just say this place far exceeded anything I have ever had before! My in-laws were down for a visit and had heard about Huck's and wanted to go-I wasn't too excited because most catfish isn't as good as what I can make at home. I didn't even order fish in fact, I had stuffed crab. When my family started raving about the fish I tried it and can't say enough good things about the fish! I ordered a plate of my own! The portions are huge, the sides are great as well but from now on we will be going back for the fish! (stuffed crab was great too!) If you like/love fish you will NOT find any place better than Huck's-and it is worth the drive from anywhere! (Leave early-lines will be long!) read more

We had a party of 9. Most of us got the catfish dinner. Some with 3 and most with 4 filets. It was awesome. We had 2 Fried Shrimp dinners. They were great. I understand that original one in Pottsboro Tx but owner re-located to Denison location and sold other one. He had several locations but sold them as well. This is only official Huck's Catfish. This place was great! Nothing to brag about in terms of atmosphere, but wow was the food good. I ordered a 1/2 order of fried catfish and had the fresh cut fries and regular coleslaw. I also got a sweet tea, which was quite large and really sweet (yum). The amount of the food was very surprising and the catfish was light and not greasy at all. There was a lot of it and it was delicious! I also go the peach cobbler as dessert which came out really and just OK. I got it was ice cream which was good, as most ice cream is. We came on the wrong day, so I missed the okra and black eye peas (you can't really get either in CA) but the hush puppies that arrived seconds after seating made it all ok. I ate a half dozen of those. Zero regrets...other than not getting another dozen to go. The bacon slaw is something I'm going to try and duplicate and pass off as my own. Then there was the potato salad and catfish. Exactly what this kid needed. Keep rocking Huck's. Service was phenomenal and Southern. Wish I had more room for desert. read more

This place is always a "must stop" on our way to and from Dallas. The atmosphere reminds me of a boat house with all the flags and all the artwork. It is quintessential Texas! The service is always polite and prompt and the food is just plain good. I love the fried catfish. It's always fried to perfection and very tender. You get two sides and I ordered the fried squash and the green beans. Everything tasted great. We have also had the chicken fried steak in the past and it was a generous portion and very tender. I don't know how they do it, but this is hands down the very best catfish I've ever had. I like catfish, though it's not a favorite of mine... but I absolutely love Huck's. The filets are white, tender, clean, fresh and perfectly fried and the tartar sauce is spot on. The sides are good overall, but I always get a baked potato and cole slaw. Together with a couple filets and the green tomato relish, this is my perfect bliss. There is always a wait during peak dinner times, but to me that just enhances the experience through anticipation. I always recommend Huck's to anyone looking for a great place to eat. The food is always good and if there is something you don't like they'll fix it for you. It doesn't happen often though. I love that you never have to worry about the quality of your meal. No hit or miss here! It is consistently great. The catfish is sooo yummy. We'll always order a full order (4 nice filets) so we can have leftovers for lunch the next day. The staff is friendly and when John (the owner) is there he always checks to make sure everything is alright. And he'll tell you 'don't lie and say everything is fine if it isn't because I needs to know if there's a problem so I can fix it' He's a good guy that truly cares about his customers being happy. Make sure you get there early because there will probably be a line but they have plenty of seating so don't let the line scare you off. It moves quickly and it's well worth the wait. read more
