First time stopping here and it gives off a pretty cool historic vibe! American cuisine with some cool things to check out in the display cases in the waiting area. This place was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon with the bar packed and only a few open tables in the bar area. We were told to grab a seat wherever we liked and the bartender came out to take our order in just a couple minutes. We skipped the drinks and ordered a Cowboy Burger with a side of Chipotle mayo and a salad off the specials menu that had chicken and pasta. The cowboy burger was cooked to the right temp, flavorful, and the Chipotle mayo really made it great, so definitely ask for some if you like a little spice. The salad was a bit plain/unseasoned, but it was still palatable with the dressing. I liked the place overall but can only give 4 stars because the burger was supposed to come with fries and came with chips instead, the salad was a bit underwhelming, and it took longer than expected for the food to come out after the order was put in. read more

Food at Huddy's has always been good, but Service has always been bad...UNLESS you are a Regular Customer. They don't take kindly to strangers who only roll in periodically. Servers fade into the 'Bermuda Triangle'. The bar is full of "Locals" and "Crypto Bros" and "Golf Brats" who embiggen themselves (lol, but true) to hog seats and space...so you never get a seat at the bar (end up standing in a corner). I don't know why bartenders don't enforce taking-up-too-much-space situation...because they'd make more tips, etc. When you walk out of that vibe, you are in no hurry to return. I think it's insane that this place only has 3 stars on yelp, so please allow me to change that. This is one of my grandparents favorite restaurants for many years and they finally took me today. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon but the 3 of us were seated immediately. My grandmother enjoyed the fish, my grandpa had a chicken salad sandwich and I had the beet salad which was a great vegan option! It was busy but we still felt seen and the food was delicious. The decorations are rich in local history, I learned so many cool things about Monmouth county/colts neck just by reading what was hung up in the hallway. The only issue with the menu is deciding what you want because there are too many good options! Carrie was an absolutely wonderful server, attentive without being overbearing. I've heard of this, but never been. We were starving and in the area so stopped inside and sat at the bar. There were three bartenders, standing at the end of the bar, not helping anyone and it probably took a good couple minutes before someone walked by that I had to call them over. We mentioned we had never been here before she brought us menus and seemed really nice but then I think we got passed off to someone else. Again, no one came over to us and we had to call her over. She was an older woman that spoke so quietly it was so hard to hear her. My boyfriend ordered a drink and she went and got it for him and gave it to him and then never asked me what I wanted so I was just sitting there. A good 10 minutes later when she came back, we ordered our food and I just put my drink order in then. She never came back to give me my drink, so I asked the original woman who gave us the menus the update on my drink and she was the one who ended up making it. We just got wings. I got the grilled barbecue with light sauce that came out completely unsauced and had the sauce on the side. I guess it's better to be not spicy at all than too spicy. We also got the Korean wings and the pork was really good, the sauce definitely had a kick. We saw the older bartender being super friendly to everyone else, but it was weird that our service was so quite lacking considering we told them it was our first time there. We've been going here since 1986 in the old location on Rt 34, the menu has minimally changed through the years adding more specials to the main menu. Our kids grew up going there almost weekly! So many different options and we have so many favorites! Priced right, service great, always busy! Best to make a reservation. Had an outstanding lunch here. The place is very nice with good views of the golf course. Our server, Julie, was great. I thoroughly enjoyed both my French Onion Soup and my Cobb Salad. The only regret is that I ate too much for lunch but that's on me and not the charming restaurant. Just bar area review - Casual hangout to watch a game and have a drink. Good wings, cold beer, what more could you want. Try the grilled wings and the blackened tuna bites, we were wishing the hummus was creamier it was a bit grainy and they serve with deep fried pita chips, all six of us agreed we would have much preferred if it was served with fresh warmed pita rather than fried. Also the nachos would have been great if they weren't so over done that the cheese was glued to the plate. Typical Inn, nice newer decor and spacious. Sat at the bar, which was nice size and stools comfortable. One of the ladies in the group next to us got a hole in one, so lots of celebration going on! Stop here for a casual Saturday night dinner (party if 5 ). Told wait was 45 minutes, so we figured we would wait since it would be the same time if we had to drive someplace else. We then found out that our original table was given to another party. While waiting for our waitress we saw another table for 12 being set up. I've been going to this place for about 35 years, my wife for longer. It is an institution in the town of Colts Neck. The food is probably the best in town, and ever since they moved to the new location, the ambience is nice as well. The service is the thing that's hit or miss here. We've had great experiences. But we have also had times when the maître d' lied about wait times and "lost" reservations if we came too close to closing. The wait staff as well is hit or miss. Sometimes they're great. But sometimes they seem almost annoyed you showed up to buy stuff and give them money. If they ever fixed that part of the business, this would be an easy 5 stars. But, in 35 years, they haven't. After a great set or brews at nearby Source, we decided to adventure over to Huddys for some grub since unfortunately Source didn't have a kitchen. Walking in I was fully expecting some decent bar and grill food. Nothing special, but you know a decent sandwich and burger since how hard can that be? At Huddys, that apparently is quite difficult. I ordered the Bulgogi Steak Sandwich and my wife order one of their burgers. The only thing about the sandwich that was Bulgogi was the title of it. The sandwich literally was just a piece of questionable steak in an overly sweet sauce on a meh roll. I thought the server was joking when he gave me a knife to eat a sandwich but I really did need it to get through the chewy steak. My wife's burger while cooked to the right temp had no flavor whatsoever. Somehow Huddys perfected a completely bland rub that added nothing to the burger. The only redeeming thing about the place was Dave the friendly bartender who troubleshooted our order when they left bacon off my wife's burger and didn't charge us for it on the bill. Rough night at Huddys....some friends got together at Huddys to watch the Nerds. The wait was Approx 2 hours for a table We passed the time at the bar, healthy pours and reasonable prices. Once seated inside as the outside was not recommended because of the wait for food....we'll let me tell if the wait outside was bad...the wait inside was no bargain either. We waited at least 40 minutes for an order of Chicken wings. The loaded nachos were burnt. Half the entrees came out at one time, the other duals came out 20 minutes later. I spoke to the manager and he understood my frustration, he told me they are having a terrible time hiring. Most dining establishments in the area are sharing the same struggle. Someone told us to come to Huddy's and that person has lost all credibility to recommend restaurants in my book. It is an older place that looks a little rundown and dingy. The service is equally horrible with the waitress not being the most pleasant. This is a typical bar menu with a lot of different items. We ordered the mac and cheese bites and the buffalo cauliflower to start. Both were not my cup of tea. The mac and cheese bites were overly fried and the cauliflower didn't have much of a buffalo flavor. They did not have onion rings when we came so couldn't try them. I also had the Cobb salad and although it was a big portion that was the only thing going for the dish. We also got the cheeseburger sliders with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were good and the sliders were serviceable. It was a big portion. Terrible experience beginning to end. 20 minutes before we saw a waitress. We knew they weee busy so we ordered drinks Apps and dinner all at once. Drinks took forever, Old Fashion was terrible and they didn't bring the wife's wine. After another 20 minutes my wife and daughter went inside to ask for her wine. The food is excellent and the menu options are many. For appealing, American luncheons and dinners, Huddy's is a reasonably priced "go to" restaurant. We live in the area and eat there frequently. Most of the staff is pleasant and efficient, but not always. Their comments are sometimes borderline appropriate. They forget to bring the salad dressing, etc. The employees need more training and, definitely, more supervision. On a a recent visit, I noted a tray of condiments on the floor, next to a diner's foot (see photo.) UGH! I cerainly did not want that food from the floor set back on MY table! When I mentioned it to a server, she said "Oh, we sometimes do that when we need more room on the table." Later the tray was moved away from the sneakers, and against the wall but still on the floor. Went here with my GF and some of her family. On their supplemental "Specials" menu they had 2 different pork chop based specials. I ordered one of them, the 16oz pork chop with sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes with gravy. I used the exact verbage on the menu and even physically pointed to it. Well, when it showed up it was the wrong one. I politely advised our server that this wasn't what I ordered, and restated that I wanted the one with the spinach and mashed potatoes. She apologized and re-placed the order while my companions started eating. When it showed up again it still wasn't right- it was 2 smaller chops, not a single 16oz, the spinach was no where to be seen and the potatoes were bone dry- no gravy. As we had an evening event that we needed to get to, I just grinned and ate it (my companions were now finished with their meals and waiting on me). Besides, I know better than to send my food back twice. This total lack of attention by both the kitchen staff and our server is unacceptable and I doubt that I will ever return. read more

What a disappointment! I had read a review stating " I wouldn't come back if they paid me " initially I thought that was harsh... mind you I read this prior to visiting Huddy's. The staff is absolutely horrible.. we saw our waitress once and that's when she took our order. We order 2 sets of wings buffalo thai. Both equally flavorless, and please note Thai wings doesn't come with carrots and celery. French onion soups and some crab cakes. The soup was good however after one fork full of the crab cake there was no need to taste it any further. They waitress are so abrasive and seem to be bothered by request for napkins or condiments. We asked for butter and instead of the waitress going around to hand it to the person who requested it, she reach across my face as I was taking in a spoon of soup. I watched a gentleman who was sitting next to us beg his server not to leave as she handed him the check. When we asked got our check the woman says " let me find your waitress" 15 mins later she says idk where she could be. Well us either considering there was only a handful people seated inside and well as outside. I will see the decor was nice to absorb, sadly the service and food was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. We have come here a bunch of times, and have generally had pretty good experiences. That was not the case today. It was a total mess. They are clearly understaffed and poorly managed. There were three young hostesses working, and they were clearly poorly trained and completely disorganized. I took much longer than it should have to put our name in for a table, and then they left our name off of the list, and almost gave our table away to someone who got there much later than we did. One of the hostesses said that they had no bus people working, so the hostesses had to do double duty and bus tables as well. When we were finally sat, our waitress appeared to be clearly overwhelmed. For some reason, she had tables inside and outside, which made it impossible for her to keep tabs on all of her tables. There was also no bartender working at the back bar, and the waitresses had to pour all of the drinks themselves. When we wanted to order a second round of drinks, our waitress was nowhere to be found, and she basically ignored us for the better part of 20-30 minutes. Our appetizers were fine, but then it took forever for the entrées to come out. Finally, after about 40 minutes after we had put in our food order, our waitress came to us and admitted that she had not put our entrée order in, as they did not have the entrée which I had ordered, and she had forgotten to tell us and get a different order from me. We asked for the check, paid the bill, and left without eating any entrées. This was a combination of a waitress who did not appear to be very good and who was clearly overwhelmed, as well as a disorganized system by the restaurant management itself. I think most of these issues can be attributed to terribly poor management and understaffing. Yet, I did not once see any managers in the dining area of the restaurant. It just seemed like they had a lot of young hostesses and waitresses who were not being effectively managed. If they don't have enough staff, they need to close portions of the restaurant, and seat fewer people, so at least the people who do dine there have an adequate experience. I would rather go to a restaurant where they tell me there is a very long wait due to being understaffed, at least leaving me the option of going somewhere else, as opposed to being sat at an understaffed restaurant and being given terrible service. Not sure if we'll ever go back there again. read more
