    Hudson 29 Cheeseburger
    Dan T.

Let's call it 4.5 stars...somewhere between 'good' and 'great'. The food was tasty for sure. We kept it fairly straight forward the night I was there. To start we had the Queso & Guacamole app. Very tasty- not complicated and tasted as good as it looked. For the main dishes we had the Hudson 29 Cheeseburger and the Roasted Chicken salad. The burgers were really good. Tasted a bit like an elevated Shake Shack burger- total compliment. The parts aren't extraordinary but combined the fresh ground beef, cheddar and pickles all played nice to make for an excellent burger. I didn't order the salad, but tried it. It was excellent. Same idea here the salad was much greater than the sum of the parts. I had a seasonal/Fall craft beer. It was pretty good. Not great. Felt the beer selection could have been stronger. Service was great. Frankly, I wish I grabbed his name. But a total pro. The perfect amount of attentiveness. Good sense of humor but not a ham. He could give a class on great wait service. Ambiance was nice. Sounds basic to say it was a nice place, but everything just felt nice w/o trying too hard. A place where you should step up the attire a bit but no need to overthink it. Hudson 29 Kitchen + Drink just works. I'm in from out of town and I look forward to coming back.

Wow another amazing Cameron Mitchell experience; have yet to have anything but a good one. Came in for a work dinner and we were seated in a private room which was nice as it made for an intimate space. Our server was very friendly and gave good suggestions on the menu. Had the Shanghai Sea Bass which was exquisite. The garlic ginger sauce that it marinated it was a perfect flavor complement. The fist itself melted on my fork as it was as tasty as it looks. Also had the smoked trout dip as an appetizer which was also delicious. Of note, convenient parking is in the garage just behind the restaurant. Bottom line another great Cameron Mitchell spot!

Was working a conference at Ohio State and realized that we had about an hour and a half for lunch. It was after the lunch rush around 1:15. I let her server know of the time crunch and she obliged. Food came out super fast and we got a chance to make it back to the conference just in time. I had a great steak salad and my colleague had a burger and fries. Both were super tasty. My steak salad, especially was great as it had mangoes and a number of different wonderful items over some lo mein. What a perfect combination. Would gladly come here again!

Great experience at Hudson 29 - the atmosphere is cozy and service was great. The surf & turf roll was a yummy unique offering. Plenty of cocktail and mocktail choices and an extensive wine list. The French dip sandwich was loaded with shaved ribeye and I opted for a house salad on the side, both were great! Looking forward to trying more Cameron Mitchell restaurants in the Columbus area.

Went here for a celebratory dinner and could not be happier with our experience. The service was excellent and they made our dinner so special. The food was incredible and we all cleared our plates. The atmosphere was lively and fun. A great spot for a nice date or celebration!

This restaurant felt closer to a chain than a fine dining experience. The steak was completely unimpressive -- and really, how do you mess up a steak? The seabass was even worse: overcooked, and when I uploaded a photo, Google's AI actually thought it was pork. The real problem, though, wasn't the texture, but the sauce. It was both too sweet and too salty, so overpowering that once it touched the rice, the whole dish was ruined. The appetizers weren't much better. The sushi didn't taste fresh, and the tuna tartare was drowned in sauce. The wine list was disappointing, especially if you're looking for decent oak-barrel reds -- hardly any good options to choose from. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly, but the service was painfully slow. After looking around the room, it was clear our order hadn't been forgotten; everyone's food was taking forever. Expect at least an hour and a half for dinner, even with just two people -- a meal that easily could've been finished in under an hour. Overall: underwhelming food, slow pace, and not worth the wait.

I had a great experience at Hudson 29 for a birthday dinner! Service was excellent and with a reservation we were seated right away. Note that there's a parking garage right behind Hudson 29 that's attached to the restaurant. We started with some cocktails and the ahi tuna tartare. The crostini were amazing and the perfect vessel for delicious ahi tuna! For my entree I ordered the Hudson 29 roll of sushi, which I really enjoyed. And our server surprised me with the dessert options for my birthday! The berry cobbler a la mode was delicious and I found it so fun that they added a candle.

My husband comes for the prime rib specials Friday and Saturday. I come for the juicy, perfectly cooked Gerber chicken. However, the star of the night is the cobbler, soooo good. One of our favorite places to get great service at the bar.

We were given a Cameron Mitchell gift card and decided to go here for dinner. I offered the bolognese rigatoni. I knew the beef was shredded as opposed to ground per the menu description, I still think it would have tasted better ground but the flavors were very nice. Parking garage makes the restaurant convenient to access as Lane Avenue is bustling. Husband had burger and fries which he thoroughly enjoyed. We would happily come back.

A dark cozy atmosphere is what you'll experience as soon as you walk in. We sat at the bar which had plenty of space and nice views into the open kitchen. We visited during happy hour which meant great pricing on drinks and some of their apps. We tried sushi and the ribs. Both were delicious but the rib sauce was amazing. I really wish I could've taken some home. The service was great and we would definitely recommend this location to others.

Wonderful anniversary dinner. The food was really great and perfectly prepared. The service was impeccable as well. The only thing that kept me from a 5 star rating was the noise level in the dining area. As a wearer of hearing aids and for an anniversary dinner, the volume was uncomfortable for me. If you enjoy a trendy environment with a louder ambient sound level, you'll rate Hudson 29 5 stars!

We went here before attending the IU vs. OSU basketball game and we had a great dinner on a busy night. My wife had the Arctic Char special of the night and she loved it. I had the house salad, cheeseburger and fries. The house salad was simple but very good with a bright vinaigrette and it was big, plenty to share. I am particular about my cheeseburgers and this one was "In-and-Out" burger style which isn't my preferred cheeseburger but this cheeseburger was absolutely excellent. I would go back just for that burger and it is only topped by the burger at Hyde Park (and the burgers I make at home). The fries were thin cut which isn't my favorite but these were very good. Our service was good and the restaurant has a good vibe to it overall. We will definitely go back and not just because my Hoosiers won the game.

I've been waiting to come back to Hudson 29 ever since I visited in January of 24! The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is cozy, warm and inviting. The service all around is extraordinary. Food came out very quick. The quality of food you are getting is totally worth the cost and more. Must try the sushi and the butter rolls!

Midway through my meal, they came around to light a candle at the table, which added such an intimate touch, and gave cozy date night energy in the best way. In fact, I believe I was sitting next to a couple having their first date. 2. Plating (4.5/5) The presentation did not disappoint. Everything came out looking polished and thoughtfully arranged. The edamame stood out because they generous with the flaky salt, which I personally loved. Sometimes places hold back, but this was well seasoned. 3. Customer Service (2.5/5) This is where things started to fall apart a bit. I stood at the front for about 12 minutes before being acknowledged, and the restaurant was nearly empty. I had to make eye contact with someone in the kitchen just to be seated. Service at the table wasn't much better. It took about 15 minutes just to get my drink order taken (which I had to flag the waitress down to order), and by that time I was ready to order my whole meal. I ordered an appetizer along with a couple of sushi rolls and some sake. I'm not sure if the waitress wasn't thinking about it, but she brought my rolls out before she even brought out my appetizer or my drink. The inconsistency was noticeable and took away from the experience. 4. Overall Taste (4.5/5) The food absolutely carried! I ordered a sweet potato roll and the Hoonie Roll, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal. Both were fresh, flavorful, and really well-balanced. Paired with the edamame and sake, everything came together nicely. 5. Overall Experience (3.9/5 ) Taking everything into account, the experience lands just under a 4. The food and atmosphere were strong, but the service created a noticeable disconnect. It's definitely one of those places where you'd go back for the food, but you'd hope the service catches up next time.

And after that soft opening with a regular menu, this week they introduced an all-you-can-eat menu as well. So of course I got there as soon as I could. Quite an extensive menu for AYCE too, though not as big as their standard one. And full of interesting stuff. Nigiri, raw rolls, cooked rolls, deep-fried rolls, specialty rolls, apps, ramen, hibachi, and more. I wanted to try everything, but even though I arrived hungry I just couldn't. Maybe 25 years ago I could have eaten twice as much, and when the students hear about this they will clean them out. It's just down from where Japanese Oriental Restaurant used to be, and I used to save up and pig out there with my friends. Now I eat a bit less, but I still figure I had about $60 worth of sushi for $30. I started with seaweed salad- big portion, and very tasty. Fresh and a little spicy. Then unagi- two big pieces, excellent, tender and flavorful. Then maguro- good, melt in your mouth. Next I tried their "dragon eggs"- deep fried avocado with kani and tuna. OMG. Again, a big portion (two whole avocados, halved and stuffed. Finally, two big rolls: the High Street roll with spicy tuna, and the Seashore roll with salmon, kani, and more. Wow. Big, and tasty. Best sushi in town? No, but up there. Really good. Service was great. They open at noon, at least on weekdays, and I was the first one in. The decor is cool- it's an old house, and they have made it modern but with vintage touches. The bathrooms and waiting area are super cool. There's a bar off to one side, a sushi bar in back, and lots of sleek but comfy seating. Also a huge patio and courtyard out front. Free street parking out front (except during rush hour.) Also a small lot in back. Get here. If you like sushi, or other Japanese food, you'll like it. If you like a bargain, you'll love it. $27, yes, not cheap; but for sushi it's not bad, and for AYCE sushi it is a steal. A cool place to hang out, not far from campus, and drink, and eat good food till you're stuffed.

Atmosphere was modern and soothing. You can get ramen, cooked dishes like tempura, salads, all kinds of things. There's a full bar as well, and areas with cozy or romantic seating. The design was actually pretty cool, you could eat with a group or sit up at a bar by yourself and feel very comfortable either way. The sushi menu itself includes more traditional Japanese sushi, which honestly is what I'd recommend from the AYCE menu. They even have sashimi, which is cut thinly- which is fine, if you want more you can just order more, that prevents excessive waste. Most AYCE places wouldn't offer sashimi anyway. But the traditional sushi, sashimi and rolls were the ones we liked best. The more Americanized rolls with the alternative (non-nori) wraps were not as delicious, in our opinion. We couldn't figure out what it was, whether it was the wraps or an ingredient in the chopped sushi roll fillings. But there's a ton on this menu that was good. Will eat here again. Oh and a short note on large groups- maybe this is not the spot to go with a massive group? It's more of an intimate dining experience, although they do seem to allow big groups. I only mention this because I saw a negative review about slow service for large groups before we went and then the evening we went a group of maybe 10-12 college students impatiently waited by the door to be seated, even though the servers were polite and had to wait for multiple tables to clear at the same time to push together seat such a large group in a smallish restaurant- the patrons kept coming in and trying to sit at random tables before it was their turn. If you have a massive group I'd say split into multiple tables or maybe choose a different, larger or chain restaurant, like El Vaquero or Buffalo Wild Wings? Anyway I hope they left a good tip because the workers were very professional and the group was very large and very impatient.

It's not that the food is bad per se...but it's not good, especially for the price. For instance, we were served only two banchan - kimchi and gamja bokkeum that tasted deep fried rather than braised. At other Korean restaurants in Columbus, I've gotten up to nine banchan. The seafood pancake, which cost a startling $18-$19, was decently crispy but not particularly generous with the fillings. The jajangmyeon was straight up not good. I've tried making jajangmyeon at home a few times and it's never turned out well; somehow the sauce is just missing an extra...something...that only seems to come through in restaurant jajangmyeon. Bonsai's sauce tasted like the sauce I made at home: simultaneously too bitter and too bland. Most irredeemable for me though, was the soggy texture of the noodles. The only dish that I enjoyed was the kimchi dolsot...but it's also the easiest to make so... In the past, I've been okay with Bonsai's steeper prices and white clientele. The food was worth it to me! We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.
