"Uncle Bruno" chocolate soufflé with vanilla gelato for dessert

I was excited to try out this spot, and came for lunch. The food did not disappoint. My dining experience was seamless and I felt that the service was excellent. In writing this review, I tried to think of a complaint, and couldn't come up with one. I love the framed decor up and down the walls, as well as the pretty bar up front. Definitely will have to come back to sit at the bar and try some cocktails. Highly recommend this spot!

The 8 ounce Hamburger with fries. Perfectly cooked and presented.

Birthday lunch celebration. An excellent choice for the ambiance, the service, and the food! First visit for the four of us. We loved the look of the place - the displayed interesting photographs, inspiring quotations and antique curiosities. A very helpful server brought water and menus. There are actual menus for bourbons and scotches here! Wow! The food menu offers tap beers as well. We ordered a burger, a steak sandwich, Milanese and salad. All were well cooked and beautifully plated. Topped this off with desserts - the Tiramisu and the special cake (for the birthday candle). Nice touch - the plate with the candle was decorated with birthday wish! Excellent! We'll definitely be back.

Food quality / price (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is eclectic antique Colonial home. The menu features several unusual dishes and some very original cocktails. I had the Slow Pan-Roasted Pork Chop with potato latkes and a side of sauteed mushrooms, all of which were very good. The wife had the Summer Courgetti Ribbons, a pasta and vegetable entree that was very unusual and flavorful. The prices were very fair, especially for this area of Connecticut. The service was a little lax, but in fairness, we arrived just before a big rush of dinner patrons. The manager, a young woman named Danny, was informative and took time to inform us about the restaurant's history. We had a great experience, and will certainly come again.

There was street parking when we got there but they also have valet and some self parking in the back. As we walked in, the ladies at the host stand were so warm and inviting. They were also the cutest ever. They encouraged us to sit out on the patio versus the bar so we headed upstairs. Our waitress came over with menus and it went downhill from there. She was so inattentive that we had to ask the other waiter for things we needed. He was engaging, checked on us and we even chatted about his Jordanian heritage and my trip there back in December. Our actual waitress, however, checked on the table next to us 6 times (yes I counted) in between her checking on us. Even when I ordered a mocktail, I guess they didn't have the one I wanted so she brought me an entirely different drink without asking me. Then got upset when I didn't want it. The absolute audacity. As far as the food, we got the crab cake, lamb, whipped mashed potatoes and the bread. The food was good but the bread took it to another level. It should have been complimentary though but that's neither here nor there. Overall, loved the experience but wish we had another waitress. She didn't even acknowledge my friend's birthday. Sigh.

Other than that, I'd definitely dine here again!

Although a few large parties were happening, it felt comfortably busy without being loud. Parking was easy with their lot. The décor is elegant, and the beautifully lit bottle display behind the bar really stands out. We sat in the main dining room and could easily hold a conversation. We started with the grilled polpo and ahi tuna tartare -- both excellent. I ordered the T-bone medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The table also had filet mignon, mezzi rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp, and pappardelle bolognese. Sides of Brussels sprouts with bacon and balsamic-honey glaze and baked spinach au gratin complemented everything nicely. The chocolate soufflé was a sweet finish. Portions were satisfying without being overwhelming. Bathrooms were very clean, though the entryway floor was a bit slippery. Overall, I'd absolutely return and recommend it for a special night out.

To end the night, we couldn't decide between the Napoleon or the carrot cake, and our server (I wish I remembered his name!) surprised us by bringing the Napoleon on the house, mentioning that it's award-winning. He also moved us from a smaller table to a beautiful booth toward the end of the meal because he wanted to make sure our first visit ended with the right ambiance. Such a kind and thoughtful gesture that really elevated the experience. We'll absolutely be back.

Their classic margarita never disappoints (with Tajín on the rim, of course), and the tacos are consistently flavorful and fresh. I almost always start with the plantains and chips with guacamole, which make the perfect shareable appetizer. There's truly something for everyone, even for those who wouldn't typically gravitate towards Mexican-inspired cuisine. That said, the service has become a bit hit-or-miss in recent visits. They are an extremely busy location so I understand the hustle. I was happy to see they brought back the traditional table-side ordering after a period of having customers place orders exclusively through their phones. The current hybrid approach is a much better. You get the more personal and professional experience of ordering with a server, while still having the option to pay or place additional orders through your phone if needed. Despite a few service inconsistencies, I'll definitely be back for another margarita and taco night soon!
