Overpriced and underwhelming. Hudson Malone is one of those places that is loud just to be loud with a standard menu that is poorly executed. The cocktails were overly sweet - the Old Fashioned was incredibly weak. The pork chop was very good but the crab cakes were terrible. More peppers and onions and breading than crab. I also did not appreciate being told by the hostess that my mask was not necessary! Covid is still among us and if I want to wear a mask I will!!! read more

This was my first time in and warranted a renew. Such a fun, welcoming, and relaxing "New York joint" in Westport, CT. The food was excellent, including the fried calamari and the tuna salad. The vibe is great, and the bar and main dining room's natural light just right. The porch seating is so comfortable and nicely arranged. The owner and staff here are all on the same page and so professional, interesting, pleasant, and accommodating. This a fine dining experience that mixes in the feel of NYC saloon legacy with its variety of memorabilia, which allows the feeling that Hudson Malone has been at this corner for a very long time, which I hope will be the case. read more

Went back again as promised, but brought our parents along this time. Requested the seating by the fireplace (a very popular seat for obvious reasons) and received it. Arrived about ten minutes late after our reservation due to the heavy winds and rain, and had no issues. As before the service was impeccable, with the manager coming by occasionally to check in on the meal and be sociable. Our server was affable, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, having only to double check if a specific ingredient was in one dish that my mother was allergic to. The food was once again amazing! House made Parsley Tagliatelle with 14 hour Rabbit Ragu; 4-Cheese Ravioli in Arriabata Sauce; House Meatballs in Marinara; Berkshire Porkchop with a special off menu order of roasted Shaved Brussels Sprouts; Filet Mignon with House Made Onion Rings; Seafood Fritters on Plantain Skewers; and Skillet Mac and Cheese; finishing up with the Westport NY Style Cheesecake and another dessert that eludes me a the moment. Everything was cooked to perfection; with medium rare truly coming to the table as medium rare. The only critique this time was that my Filet arrived to the table about five minutes after everyone else received their food. Beyond this, this was such a perfect evening that three hours went by before we knew it! The ambiance; the music; the impeccable attentive service; the stellar food and menu selections.... This place is the model of what a great restaurant should look and perform like! We had Sunday dinner with our family here and we were quite disappointed in the service. The food was good how ever we were sat on the closed and sort of heated outdoor patio in the dead of winter. Even though they had plenty of space indoors and we ended up being the only table outside. It was very awkward and cold. We had to chase the waiter down after waiting a good 20 minutes. The food came out before the drinks. And the person pouring water basically washed his hands in the process. Overall food was good but probably won't come back. read more

As we walked into the restaurant I thought I was going to be a small restaurant but we walked into the bar area which had bar seating and a few tables but then there was an open dining area with a a huge stone fireplace which then leads to an outdoor dining area. The restaurant has a very rustic look to it but it is decorated with a bunch of pictures and art posters. I loved it. We went on a Saturday early afternoon so we were eating from the brunch menu. I started off with the ceviche, which was very fresh and tasty. For my entree I had the breakfast burger with fries. The burger was served with cheese, bacon. The fries were great but the burger was a bit on the small (mini) size. It was very good but it would have been better if it were a bit more substantial. My girlfriend had the latkes appetizer. She loved them. For dessert we had the Uncle Bruno which is a chocolate soufflé with a vanilla gelato. The chocolate cake was warm and went well with the gelato. Good choice. Overall, I really liked this place and I definitely want to come back to try their dinner menu. read more

Here I am again. This is finally the last time I will be coming to Hudson Malone. What a waste of money and repulsive. I didn't want to write this review but it's just so ridiculous. Two weeks ago we picked up burgers and they were raw but I let that slide. Last night we picked up food and there was a giant black hair in my mushrooms. So let me ask you a question, my mom has blonde hair , I have a shaved head , and my father who's in a totally different state has grey ice white hair. I call the front to tell them my takeout was accompanied by a long black hair and he says , "it doesn't happen here" so where did it happen? Mars? Such a turn off hygiene concerns all the way. I get it happens but I don't know something about this leads me to believe "dirty kitchen" Thank you but no. I will not be returning here ever again. read more

It's shocking to me that Hudson Malone has only 3.5 stars. One of the best places in Westport. Personnel is always attentive. They always have nice specials: veal, steaks, pasta etc. Tomahawk steak is awesome, as well as branzino Salerno. Awesome wine & whiskey carte. Should be a 6 star - outstanding. We had an awesome time last night. The entire place has been gutted since it opened and it's a great inviting environment. The staff were all nice and accommodating for our large somewhat obnoxious party - well that was mostly me. The food was also outstanding along with the owner Doug who was very welcoming and Bea the hostess who was both charming and incredibly friendly. Just a great experience. My GF wanted to take me out for a nice steak dinner in Westport. We originally went to The Cottage, however, being a Sunday, they were "out" of steak. We had to pivot and wound up trying out Hudson Malone. While the Cottage was very cramped and had a formal and somewhat stuffy atmosphere, I couldn't have been more pleased to see the opposite from Hudson Malone. While not overly formal in appearance, the interior was extremely spacious and comfortable. I was first drawn the large fireplace presenting a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The tables were well spaced out and the ambiance (while low-lit, which I also liked as it felt each table had more privacy) was exactly what I was hoping for. I was not planning to drink, but the environment lent itself very nicely to a bottle of wine and great conversation. The wait staff was pleasant, but the food was beyond my expectation. I had the Bacon appetizer, which was presented on a rack hung with Rosemary and was "torched" (Creme-Brule style) at our table. My steak entre (I got the strip) was both large, and well-seasoned. The au poivre was well balanced and actually superior to one of my favorite spots to get steak in my hometown of Fairfield. My GF ordered the Salmon which was also well presented and quite tasty. Being so pleasantly satisfied with my entire experience, I spoke to the house manager who was making the rounds, and he was beyond receptive and very happy with our feedback (to the tune of a complementary desert). I would highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants a high quality dining experience in a comfortable environment. The prices were reasonable for the area and the service, atmosphere and food quality were exceptional. I will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

Let me start with the fact that I want this place to succeed. I NEED this place to succeed! I've been moaning about needing a "nicer" Bogeys and here it is! But... Well, the good things... The staff are friendly and attentive and probably due to the days and times we eat, I haven't felt rushed out at all. Plus, come on people, eat and have a few drinks then get out. You don't live here. The drinks: Are fine and they have a top notch whiskey selection at reasonable prices. Definitely worth it for a bourbon lover. The food: Here's where they start to lose me. So the small plates are generally VERY good. Like really good! We generally order a bunch of apps to split and this place is good for that. Spinach dip, arancia, latkes whatever. Tasty. The only one that missed were the super bland chewy fried oysters. Last time we went my order was every small plate except the friend oysters, to which the waiter responded "we don't have those anymore." Good call. The big issue I have is with the large plates, specials, burgers etc. We've tried a bunch of stuff from the menu and the specials. Not one a winner. The burgers are ok. But like Uncle Fred's mailing it in bbq ok. For $20 I'd go to my uncle Fred's if he was real. The pasta was bland the salmon was ok, two of my friends have ordered the tomahawk and said it was not properly cooked (for $100 plus). You get the idea. Summary: So this place has potential but they need to get the kitchen straightened up. There's no real value here so you gotta hit me with quality and that's just not there right now. Right now I'd say go and have a couple drinks, enjoy some great bourbon and a few small plates. Then go home and cook dinner. Also, Hawaiian rolls are garbage but that's just my personal feeling. If you're reading the reviews on this place, you've probably already realized one of two things, either they are very inconsistent or the 5 star reviews are from friends and family. And judging from my star count, you can probably guess which end I'm on. To cut to the chase, it's a bad version of Spotted Horse and I don't even like Spotted Horse. Sure, the vibe is good, but you can't eat vibe. And no, the cocktails aren't worth it either. I make better at home and I'm not even a mixologist. In terms of food, they went 1 for 5. The only dish that was decent was the Cioppino. The steak was tough, the mac & cheese was watery the shrimp were overcooked, the caesar was overly creamy and the rest was a big ole pile of meh. It's places like this that have me scratching my head, because it was packed as can be, in a town loaded with better restaurants. In fact, case in point, we didn't even stay for dessert and ordered the ricotta cheese cake from Filamente to go, just to help salvage the night. read more

I was on vacation and found this restaurant on google and decided to give it a try. I called for a reservation and immediately was made to feel so welcomed and appreciated! The owner was so kind and set us up on the veranda with our pup. The entire staff was lovely. So kind and gracious throughout! The food was DELISH! We had oysters, mussels east side style, Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, pasta bolognese, and steak tartar. Everything was seasoned to perfection and we were so impressed with the quality! Would recommend to anyone passing by or staying in town. Amy and Sarah took such great care of us and went out of their way to give us the best evening! Lacked dome flavor. Desserts were disappointing. Drinks tasted like alcohol mixed with water. I had read this in previous reviews but didn't believe it until we saw it. Our first time visiting was not a great experience. The place is very nicely decorated and has been fully renovated since 323 Main closed its doors. The food below average at best. We ordered the ceviche appetizer. It came and had a strong strong fish odor. Upon tasting it the flavor was confirmed to be extremely fishy and was not edible. I am not one to complain but I couldn't fathom spending 20.00 for an appetizer that was the size and had to mention it to the waitress who nicely took it back. We got the Mac and cheese app which was really just Mac and cheese with no real flavor. My wife ordered the artichoke soup special. Halfway though I guess the waitress realized they brought her the vegetable instead of what she ordered. Never offered to take it back. We shared the steak Au Poivre which was the best thing of the night. We ordered it medium and it was rare but it was almost two hours and we had a babysitter with the kids and had to leave. When I got the bill it's was $243.00, they charged us for the wrong soup which they brought. I mentioned to waitress and she took off. I know there is growing pains with new places but I think it was clear that our experience was not great but never heard from manager or anything. This was our first time here and it was terrific! The atmosphere is incredible, even in the middle of a pandemic it was lively, filled with great music, conversations, and laughs. The bar looks fantastic and the entire restaurant theme is found throughout- low lighting, lots of great art, things to look at, etc. My partner and I agreed that it had a "speakeasy" type vibe to it. Also would love to mention the job this restaurant did with covid regulations- phenomenal. Every table is sufficiently separated with proper dividers between. All wait staff wore masks and was patient enough to speak loudly to ensure we could hear the specials with face coverings. The food was incredible. We shared a mussels appetizer that was the best i've ever had (and I get mussels often). The white wine sauce was to die for! I ordered the Grilled Chicken Pillared and my partner ordered their classic burger. Both were great and we each finished our plates + ordered cheesecake for dessert. We are eager to go back and try their cocktails and new items on the menu! Beautiful rebuild of a Westport eatery. Stunning inside and great use of space. The staff is great, accommodating and knowledgable. A couple new-ish restaurant missteps but nothing worth mentioning here. All things that time will smooth out. The drink menu is amazing. The bar area, though small, is worth finding a stool if you can. Great place for drinks and apps (small plates). Entrees we're good. Leans expensive but there's a good mix of items and prices available. Vegetarian friendly too. Indoor and outdoor seating (extremely COVID aware...amazing this is now part of a review) it's important. They have 3 season porches with ample heaters and air flow. Stop by and say hello. The potatoes that came with it were literally cold to the touch, and the 'poached' eggs were so overcooked that the yolks were solid. We got takeout from Hudson Malone tonight and everything was delicious. We had two appetizers, the mussels and the latkes, and both were excellent. The branzino was perfect. And the burgers were done exactly how we had requested, and had hearty fries and onion rings on the side. The hostess and the man who helped me with the takeout order were both very friendly and helpful. Kept getting dirty martinis and whiskey I think 3x. Table of 6 received a basket of 3 slices bread after asking repeatedly for some. Waiter was observed bringing wrong food & drinks to wrong tables around us all night long (other tables were complaining too). Waiter would come over periodically to speak randomly about his faith, his kid, his military experience, and other weird topics which was uncomfortable. HM is very popular-it was packed at a prime time on a Saturday night and I am happy for their success, however I think their staff is overwhelmed enough to be confused and stressed which carried over to affect our dining experience this night. read more

One clean cut server who wasn't sat once the entire time we were there, yet she did grunt work for all other staff . The Bloom is Off the Rose. Went here last night to get burgers for the three of us. The waiter was visibly annoyed that we were only ordering burgers this time. He was inattentive and never checked back with us after the food was delivered. My burger ended up being RAW and cold in the middle. I ate around the edges and ate the fries while waiting for someone to come back and check on us. By the time they did, the other two were done with their dinner. When I pointed out the raw meat the waiter made a face and said it was clearly uncooked. It was on the bill and absolutely no accommodation or discount was offered.
