George came over to do our spring turn on and did an amazing job. I have absolutely no complaints with the service he provided. My complaint is with the manager of the business, Mike. The invoice I received for the job did not match what I was quoted by the office staff over the phone. In June, I talked to the office staff as soon as I got the invoice and requested follow up. The gal said she left him a message. I called two additional times, and got the same message. I never received a return call. I then sent an email, as I wanted some proof of my attempts to resolve the issue. I still never heard back. We called for winter service in October, as we were really happy with George, and were told that the manager would be coming out to do our blow out and we could discuss the invoice issue then. Instead, George came out and since we hadn't paid he could not do the service. I definitely understand that, but that's why we called and were told the manager would be coming out so that we could get it all taken care of. The following day we checked in with the office, and were told that they'd be happy to take my payment and reschedule the appointment. I explained everything that I wrote above, and said that I am still waiting for my discussion with the manager. The gal said that the manager, Mike, was her boss and he is a very busy man and that he can't get back to everyone. I told her it is very disappointing that he isn't willing to get back to a customer who has made a pretty big effort to get in touch to resolve a problem of his service. I gave her all the details of what I wanted from them on the invoice (ie meet in the middle from original quote to actual invoice), and asked that she discuss with her manager and get back to me. It's interesting that there are multiple recent reviews of customers not being able to get in touch with this man Mike.... At the end of the day, I was happy with the service, I know it was a tough job, and the invoice did make sense although it was unexpected based on the quote. If the manager had called me from the get go and we had discussed the issue, I probably would have just paid it as it. Four months later I feel much less willing to do so. Because 0 stars is not an option for these criminals. I used Hughes for years prior to their recent ownership change. Never had a problem with the old ownership. This company with its new ownership, I wouldn't have fix my sprinklers if my lawn was on fire. I scheduled a turn on service about a month and a half ago, so I've waited to try to work out these issues and have not received the courtesy of a call back to discuss my concerns, so I'm left with leaving a review here to hopefully save others the trouble. Hughes came out to turn on the system, and my first concern was the guy was high, 100% positive of this fact. Immediately after he turned on the system and had tested the first zone, he started digging a hole in the middle of my yard to fix a sprinkler. Maybe that's customary (one of the issues I wanted to discuss with mgmt, who wouldn't call me back) but I assume it'd be reasonable to ask me if I wanted something fixed or replaced, not just going ahead and doing it. I told him my main concern was to get the system on and notify us of any issues, and we could fix anything later, and just asked him to cap the head if it was broke. He seemed irritated with me, and he proceeded to finish capping that line, but after that, walked to the side of my house, and then walked to his truck, sat for a few minutes, and drove off. Two days later, I noticed my sump pump was running constantly. That was strange, with 90 degree days and no rain. I walk to the valve boxes by the side of my house, and they were flooded. In fact, the entire side yard, that we can't see from our front yard or back deck, was flooded with standing water. I turn off the water to the system in the basement and after 4 days the sump pump finally stopped pumping. I called Hughes several times after I noticed the flooding and it was several days before I got a call back, and they offered to come out 3 weeks later. I can appreciate the busy season, but it's not unreasonable to expect emergencies are addressed, either. When I finally had a new company come out to look at the system, he mentioned to me that a valve was loose immediately because water was spraying out. Surely it was something that couldn't have been missed during a turn on and he'd never seen this particular malfunction in his 20 years experience. I had not originally told this new company that Hughes had been out, I had figured it was an issue with my system. But I then relayed my recent experience with Hughes and he mentioned that it was likely a purposeful sabotage of the system. Apparently Hughes employee felt it appropriate to sabotage my system. Throughout this period over the next 6 or 7 weeks, I have called Hughes dozens of times. I have left messages and spoke with the receptionist, and have never received a call back or been patched through to the owner or manager. That's the customer service you can expect with Hughes! So, in closing, if you want property damage and possibly catastrophic losses to your home, hire Hughes. Any response by the company to this post can be treated as complete trash. The company had numerous opportunities to reasonably address the these issues and failed by not even reciprocating the lowest amount of courtesy due a customer. Interestingly, the Hughes employee didn't leave an invoice, and they've never called to receive payment, so it's pretty obvious there's a cover up and no records by Hughes that they were ever at my house, in an attempt to deny their criminal actions. read more

This company has gone downhill over the past couple of years. Very little in the way of customer service, hard to get a phone call back from the new manager or owner. They have been poor in terms of actually providing the services that they charged for. Sprinkler blowout turned out to be a problem with valves left open, requiring another call. Sprinkler turn on service similarly left much to be desired. Two zones were not even activated requiring another visit from another company to fix this. Finally, I can't even begin on the unprofessional behavior of one of the technicians. I will not be using this company again and cannot recommend them to others. read more

Words can not express how professional Mr. Hughes and Hamilton are and even more so that they are honest and fair. I called Mr. Hughes as we just moved into an older home (new to us) a few months ago. Since the ground was still frozen when the house was inspected they could not test the sprinklers but the former owners attested that it was working. Fast forward to our first high 80-90s days and we attempt to start the "working" sprinkler and it was a no go. I contacted the former owner who gave me the name of the installer of the sprinklers (do not believe the man was a legitimate irrigation specialist). The installer never called back and now the lawn in crunchy and we are approaching a few 100 days. This is where Mr. Hughes and his team saved the day. Mr. Hughes responded in less than 2 hrs by phone and arranged the first available appointment. When Hamilton arrived (a few minutes early too) for the appointment he immediately got to work. Mr. Hughes estimated since the system was unknown to them it would take 2 hrs to go through it and fix what was going on...he was upfront $75 an hr to fix. Almost two hours later - a valve replaced, broken head reaffixed to the pipe (snapped off below ground) and a complete run through of the system cost $172. We felt it was reasonable and look forward to have them work on the system going forward in the future. read more

Had these guys out to fix a copper pipe that froze and broke during the winter months. The manager Mike made the house call. He was polite enough, but didn't fix anything. When I wasn't looking he took off without a word and never came back. I've made several attempts to contact the company and they refuse to return my calls. These guys are LOSERS. Don't waste your time or money just go onto the next company. read more

Shows up on time, meets and keeps commitments. He is a wonder with older systems, he has fixed mine many times, leaks and such, and they stay fixed. Denver Water shut off our water and said we had a 3 gallon a minute leak and they couldn't find it. I called Hughes Irrigation and Mike called me back promptly and with the most kind and caring demeanor. We set the appointment and Mike was on time and called me when he was on his way so that I didn't have to miss any extra time at work. Mike found the problem quickly, fixed it, and could have easily overcharged me, but he was so honest and kind. Had two zones gone bad and a bunch of tree root problems / cracked split heads .. the list goes on , Called Mike too schedule and Hamilton came out last Tuesday and spent 5 hours on the job got everything up and running and gave us a rundown of our 70's sprinkler system so we now know where the zone valves are and how its all mapped out , their pricing is up front and very fair .. I had Hughes Irrigation for 13 years servicing my sprinkler system. Mike Hughes and his employees had also been servicing the system for the previous owner before we bought the house. 13 years with no problems and then this spring, we call for a turn on of the system, and he doesn't call back. We left 3 messages over the next 2 weeks, with no return calls. We finally got through to him on his cell phone he carries with him when he works, and, with an attitude, he says if we left him a message someone will eventually call us back. Two weeks later, nothing. 4 weeks later, we found someone else. Mike's attitude had been getting worse over the last couple years but I put up with it because he had been great for so many years before. So my advice would be find some other company. This one seems to have run it's course and is on very shaky ground. read more

This place has been around a while. We had a very negative experience with them. The owner is pretty much handing things off to others, and they do not take care of business. Multiple calls to get things done properly, expensive, and not a great attitude. In my opinion, you can do better and there are better companies doing basic sprinkler maintenance functions. SUggest you call them first. read more

I'm very glad I called Hughes. I had a bad zone in my yard and Hamilton took a care to recommend the best solution. In this case it was a minimal repair. Another company recommended a full system replacement for me. He also spotted a bigger non-sprinkler problem which I'm now better prepared for. the work he did won't be wasted as I address the bigger problem. in short they are very ethical. read more

Wish I could recall the guy's name who came out to help with my sprinkler system... he was super helpful and, I thought, really went above and beyond to make sure my sprinkler system was programed correctly, all the sprinkler heads positioned for full lawn coverage, and all the broken drip lines replaced. After using Hughes for years, we find ourselves severely disappointed. This spring, after turning on the water at a rental property we own, we discovered a crack in the unit that feeds the system, indicating that the water supply to the system was never turned off, despite the fact that we paid for a blow-out the fall prior. Mike Hughes' first claim was that the crack was pre-existing and that it had been there for years. When I explained that the sprinkler was only a year and a half old, he said suggested that our tenant (a DU Law student), crawled into the crawl space and turned on the water himself (this obviously defies logic). Finally when I suggested the most likely scenario - his employee didn't go into the crawl space to turn off the water, he indicated that we didn't pay him for the service anyway, so it wasn't his responsibility. When we sent him a copy of the cashed check and a receipt marked "paid", he did not respond. Several other voicemails and emails have also gone unanswered. Sadly this isn't an insolated incident. We're embarrassed to have recommended him to our neighbors, who were charged for a service call for something that he broke himself. I would avoid this guy like the plague. read more

Good Service, Mr. Chavez is a great guy, very personable. I was frustrated that he installed in the control unit but then didn't really know how to program it. In the meantime, to my surprise, I was being charges $72.00./hr for labor which really for me when it was an extra $144.00 dollars added to my bill. Also, they charged me $139.00 for a unit that can be purchased online for $49.99. Would say I that I wouldn't call them again because of the labor rate and margins on their product and services but if you have the money lying around, call them. read more

Had them out for a check up on the sprinkler system in a house we recently bought. Ground was frozen when we had it inspected and it had been neglected for a little while. Hamilton was incredibly nice and as importantly, super helpful. Had everything checked out, adjusted and running in an hour. Will definitely use them going forward. read more
