I saw churros in a Spanish channel. I never had one before. As I was walking when I saw that big churros sign, this was my opportunity to try some. I didn't have to fly to Spain. Lol! It didn't disappoint! My only regret is I didn't order it with ice cream. Next time! I also now know when I'm craving for Mexican food, this is the place to go. Enchiladas, burritos, and tacos! After passing this little taco shop many times while shopping at McArthur Glen we finally decided to stop and give it a try. It was a surprisingly hot May day so I wanted a margarita and a quick afternoon bite on their outdoor patio. Beef birria is my No. 1 go to and this one here was quite a disappointment unfortunately. The cheese was sparse, the beef bland and the dip was meh. The fish tacos were much better in comparison, with 2 large fried pieces topped with a healthy layer of greens and pickled onions. The sauce was a balanced mix of cream and spice. We enjoyed the small selection of salsas at the self serve bar with the chips that came with this dish. It was a little pricey for 2 tacos however the lime margarita was a perfect refreshment for the hot day. read more

The quesaabirria tacos hit the spot and are proper filling. The service is always quick and friendly, and the place is kept clean even in busy peak periods. Pigeons were coming in and out and staff didn't seem to make effort to shoo them away. Tables were sticky. Ordered fish taco (taco Tuesday special) - was enjoyable but nothing to write home about. Nachos - do not get. They are cold old chips and just queso/tomatoes/jalapeños. Small serving size and felt like the crumbs of the bag Chicken quesadilla - was fine. Side of rice - originally was old, cold and stale. We had to ask the server if this was normal and she said "oh" and took it back. Then she brought a new one that tasted a thousand times better. My niece had been visiting from the UK and wanted to have an early dinner before boarding her plane to go back home. She expressed an interest in Mexican food so we took her to Hugo's Churros and Tacos at the McArthurGlen Outlet since it's so closeby to the airport. She had a Burrito Bowl while the rest of us had an assortment of tacos (except for my little girl who had a cheese quesadilla), and we all shared some churros for dessert.  Burrito Bowl: My niece had a burrito bowl at TacoTime earlier during her trip and she was quite happy with that already. She said the Burrito Bowl at Hugo's Churros and Tacos was even better!  Tacos:  We had various meat and plant based tacos on our table. Most of them were just OK. We've had better tacos elsewhere. The one taco that stood out for me though was the Nopales taco, which is grilled cactus. It would have never occurred to me that cactus might actually be edible! This was the first time I'd ever seen cactus on a menu. The prickles were removed, and I quite enjoyed eating my Nopales taco. In all honesty, I'm not sure if it's really because I enjoyed the taste or if it was more of a placebo effect. (ie.Perhaps it was just the novelty of the experience which made it taste good.) I give them marks for creativity since I've never been to any other restaurant that served cactus on their menu.  Cheese Quesadilla: Cheesy and gooey as it should be! Churros: We had our churros with caramel dip and chocolate dip. They were a bit too dry, and quite disappointing. Costco in Bellingham does better churros than what we had at Hugo's. In their defense though, they were perhaps just having an "off" day. We have been to Hugo's Churros and Tacos before, and the churros were quite good the last time we came.  Drinks: We had some of their bottled Jarritos drinks and a Coconut Horchata. First time I've had Coconut Horchata. I think I prefer regular Horchata, but the Coconut Horchata was still enjoyable. It was our little girl's first time trying Horchata and she loved it.  Service: Fair (It's not really the kind of restaurant where you order and get served. You pick up your food at the counter and bring it to your own table.) Parking: Plentiful and free! Location: Convenient if you need to be near the airport. Situated amongst the European styled shops of McArthurGlen Outlet; hence, charming even if you don't need to be near the airport! Things were a bit of a hit and miss this time round, but since there was some good food and drinks, and since as I said I havn't seen cactus on a menu before, I would say that this restaurant is worth trying. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. (Unless you're seriously itching to try cactus!) Was around April where patio dine ins were the options, gladly we found one table ready to be emptied so we decided to get the chance to sit down and try hugo's menu. We had the tri tacos, fish taco, quesadillas, churro taco and churro sandwich for dessert. I honestly find their tacos delicious, I love how fresh the ingredients and the tacos were tasty. The quesadillas was so fun to eat, so cheesy yet crunchy, you can do some awesome cheese pull in every bite. In about 10-15 minutes desserts were served, I find it huge actually churros where freshly made it was warm and crunchy it goes so well with the gelato ice cream. I think one serving of the gelato bowl is good to share for two to three people. Went home with the Taco loco which I had the next day, it was served crunchy, but since I had it the next day it did sog but still the taste was fresh and delicious. Through Ig, I saw they had a new dessert which is the churro taco ice cream, luckily I had the chance again to be in the area so I went try their new ice cream, taste the same and the experience was fun since the churro is in taco version so every bite gets a little messy with crumbs, awesome combination of crispy taco and ice cream, but again its little bit messy. After having a long day of Shopping, my wife and I were hungry and wanted to eat something relative healthier. We stepped into Hugo'a tacos and ordered a Burrito Bowl. Being Vegetarians, they had 4 different fillings and we opted for beer battered cauliflowers as the main filing. The rice and beans were filled with flavor and we added a spicy sauce to make the flavors burst. Overall, loved the bowl. Tucked away at the yvr outlet mall, let me tell ya, you'd be hard-pressed To find a taco place as good as this. It can give good ole saly limon a good run for is money. They have a few choices only, but they do it good! Very close to the real tacos being sold on the streets of mexico. I ordered a flight of 3...grilled chicken, grilled steak, and the pork with pineapple marinade. All i can say is wow! Chicken was grilled perfectly and so was the steak. Seasoned well and served hot, full with smoky flavour. the pork was soooo tender but could use more pineapple essence. Each taco came with a lime wedge, and garnished with the basic onion and cilantro and served with a creamy avocado dip with garlic aioli which was so good. The churros were fried perfectly and tasted so good. Nice crunch/moisture profile. Came with a dip, which i think was condensed milk. Yes, it is a bit pricier than most places. But its very good! This review is just for the Quesadilla with beef. It was $15.50 which seemed a bit pricey compared to the burrito but it was actually really good. The meat was so juicy and flavourful! The picture shows one quesadillas when in fact it's two, one on top of each other. Nice texture and enjoyed the shredded chicken. Good softness of the flour wrapped bread-like. Their Horchata drink tastes more like a coconut drink, unfortunately this is not what I expected, but if you like a coconut-like drink, you will likely like this drink. I have made my own homemade version of Horchata and it tastes pretty good. This restaurant deserves a REPEAT for it's Quesadillas. Plus once I received my order, I was wondering where my BEANS were. I pretty sure I had ordered the beans on the side. And there's definitely no beans in my quesadillas so it was for a side dish. I asked and they apologized and I received it. I think its a 3.5 stars for me. We have ordered takeout today since I am craving churros badly. * Three Tacos($12.75) : we have chose Chicken Tinga, Beef barbacoa, and Pork Carnitas. I like the pork one the most as they have added pineapple to balance out the saltiness. However, the taco shells were soggy and broken because of takeout. Too bad. I think it would be better to eat it right away when served. * Guacamole and Chips($6.50): Guacsmole tastes homemade and chips are crunchy. * Churro Bowl($8.50): Impressive! Really like their churro. We don't make a habit of visiting the McArthur Glen Designer Outlets out in Richmond very often due to the airport traffic and the lack of stores that appeal to us. However, we wound up visiting in early December to try and get some Christmas shopping done. Mall food, especially at outlet malls, have never been one of my favourites... it's usually just okay enough to get you through the shopping trip. However, I was actually pleased with this visit as we got to try out Hugo's Churros. They actually serve more than just churros... we wound up ordering a trio of tacos ($12 I think): Chicken Tinga, Beef Barbacoa, and Pork Carnitas served on double 4-inch tortillas. I was actually very pleased the way these tacos came out. The tacos were overflowing with juicy filling so we split up the filling with the extra tortillas. A bit messy, but to be expected. Make sure you grab some of the extra hot sauce at the front counter. Of course, we couldn't come here without trying a Churro ($3). These long and thin deep-fried pieces of crispy dough remind me of snacks you'd get at the fair. The interior of this place is actually quite spacious with lofty ceilings and an airy, industrial vibe going on. If I come back, I might want to try their churro ice cream sandwich. read more

Looks like they've added a torta to their food menu and I decided to give it a try. Previously, I've only had desserts from them and this is my first time trying one of their savory items. It was disappointing; really really disappointing. First off the bread tasted weird and secondly, the flavors of the pulled pork, beans, pineapple and the rest of the veggies did not pair well with each other. There were no true flavor profile that sing through; tasted like they threw in all the ingredients in a bun without thought. I tried to salvage it with some salsa but none out of the three tasted good either. I couldn't finish my half and gave up. Props to my friend which did. We also got a churro bowl to share and that tasted amazing as usual. I tried their salted caramel ice cream this time and it tasted good. I don't even remember where I saw the photo of a churro icecream sandwich but it showed up on my instagram feed one day and I KNEW I had to go and try it! It was ridiculously hard at first to try and locate information on this place because it was so new... But I finally succeeded! Hugo's Churros is located inside the Hawkers Mercado at the new designed outlets by the airport. They actually do both churros and tacos (Hugo's Tacos) which is pretty cute. It's a cute set up, with the warehouse style and open concept layout - you get to watch the staff actually hand make your churro fresh in front of you. (Actually, I found it slightly scary though because the work station where they press out the churro and then dip it in the cinnamon sugar doesn't really have any protection from the general public as you stand there and watch them make it. You could literally just put your hand out and touch the tray of cinnamon sugar... :| ) Anyways. I watched the guy press out a slightly skinnier tube of churro for the churro sandwich and then he rolled it into a swirl. After both were done, it goes into this interesting deep fryer (you just put it in a tray and close the door and it's a self contained deep fryer!) after 2.5 minutes it's done and then they give you a giant scoop of vanilla bean gelato to go between the two swirls and then you are left to scarf it down before all the gelato melts. Pros: churros are awesome. Fresh made churros are even better. It was light, crispy, fluffy and delicious without being too greasy. Cons: it's impossible to eat this with your hands. There is no feasible way that you can actually hold this and take a bite because a) the sandwich is huge and b) all the icecream will just slip out since it's sandwiched between a piping hot churro. For $7, I don't think I would get the churro sandwich again... But I would go for just the regular churros! You can also look into booking their transportable cart for events and weddings and they have some specialty flavours that they do for those that aren't offered at the stand out in Richmond. read more

Had to drop friends off at YVR, so hubby and I decided to stop by the outlet, do so Shopping and go get some churros, which actually ended up becoming a beef Barbacoa nachos and chicken Tinga grande burrito with jarritos!! Came out to $29 which was a bit pricey, but it did the job. If I had too, I'd recommend the nachos over the burrito. The server and cute guy at the cash register was well mannered and helpful!! Located inside the McArthur Glen Shopping Centre, I was hoping it would be somewhat decent. Only thing great was that I could eat this by the fountains while enjoying the sun. Portion size was good but taste wise it was definitely nowhere near how a chicken burrito should taste like. It looked like the place was run by a place filled with teenagers. We were super tired and hungry after a long day of shopping and walked into the first place we saw. Super friendly staff! Got 3 carne asada tacos and 2 churros and I don't know if we were super hungry or the tacos were just that good. Definitely recommend eating them with the serrano sauce as it definitely gives it a kick. The cashier even gave us extra when we asked. The churros were hot, crunchy, and the cinnamon sugar topping was perfect. If you're shopping at the outlets I definitely recommend eating here and we will be back to try the different tacos. read more

Shopping on a rainy Thanksgiving weekend was the perfect opportunities for tacos!! Very sparse layout in an even larger location, ends up feeling cold and old. Chipotle has a similar layout but it works better. There was a small crowd of customers trying to figure out what to order. The serving staff seemed though helpful, and the pay terminal promoted for a tip which I thought was odd since it was just counter service. No biggie. Prices were average for Vancouver. The tacos were fresh, served with a pair of standard corn shells. We tried the Chicken Tinga, Pork Carnitas, and Beef Barbacoa. Meat was juicy with some flavour. Toppings were a bit much with lots of pickled red onion and cilantro. Even some sour cream. I wish the meat had more spice, maybe slow roasted longer. There are many better Vancouver taco joints. Not bad, no plans to return. read more
