Love this place, a favorite. Took the kids (4 yr old twins, 8yo, 12 yo)..they were mesmerized all while enjoying their late lunch. Their lunch buffet orice is $11.99 for adults, $5.99 for 8-12 yrs, and $3.99 for 4-7. Non alcoholic drinks with refills are included in that price! 6 of us ate with a mix appetizer for $57. Not bad! I love a good Mongolian grill, unfortunately this isn't. As others have said, they have some serious problems with cleanliness. Though I have never gotten sick. The wait staff seems bored and uninterested in customers. The food is actually not too bad and they have good sauces. And you can get as much as you want. What used to be a 5-star place for my family and I, has changed recently. Prices going up for kids?! Seriously?! The servers seem disinterested in their work. The staff does a poor job of keeping the food/sauces stocked. The bathrooms aren't maintained well anymore. Maybe management quit caring... Keep in mind that this wasn't during a rush either, which would explain some of the shortcomings. It wasn't busy the entire time we were there. That being said, the 3-star rating comes from the 2 saving graces that they have. The food is still good, and the staff at the grill are fun and have a good time doing their work. I love HuHot! Nowhere else compares to this experience. The service is always good and the guys on the grill are great. It's fun to make your own combination and either stick with it or make a new one every time! My family has loved it for years, and we anyone we show or talk to about it feels the same way. Tuesdays are especially great! At least for now they are doing half priced lunch and dinner with free drinks (unless you order alcohol, but alcohol is still super cheap)! This place was good but not amazing. My boyfriend and I both had the egg drop soup and it kind of tasted like chicken noodle with some eggs dropped in. Not bad, just not what I was expecting or wanting. As other have said, most of the meat on the bar is frozen, but it didn't bother me at all. I'm glad to not get food poisoning from bad meat. A lot of their sauces have curry in them but were not too hot so I liked them quite a bit. Teriyaki and sweet and sour were pretty good together, and I really liked the black Thai peanut. The sausage was reallllly good. I wish that they would have had the seafood split instead of just having the medley, I wanted shrimp but not squid and didn't want to hold up the line doing so. read more

Gimmick that just doesn't work. It is nice to see a new concept though. However, when I stepped foot inside, I could tell I wasn't going to enjoy my experience at HuHot and I was right. You spend more time waiting in line to get food and waiting for your food to cook than you do sitting down and eating. That is my biggest complaint about it. Such a big complaint that I never plan on returning. Secondly, they have several signs you can read to design good dishes... that is, if you can read them all and find everything on the buffets needed to make the dishes. See, when I pay to go out and eat, I am paying someone to prepare me a great meal. Not paying for me to stand in line for 15 minutes to put together a plate of random food that looks good. Love it! Great quality! You create your own Mongolian dish (and there is lots of great ingredients to choose from!) and choose your own sauces. They cook it for you while you wait. This place is my favorite in Springfield. I always have a good time when I visit and the food is amazing! There are really endless combinations of food you can make. Just grab a bowl and fill it up with, beef, pork, or chicken and copious amounts of vegetables, noodles, and sauces. Then you'll take it to their large iron grill and have it cooked. Not really sure why the scores for this establishment are so low being that it's so delicious. Anyway, give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. read more

Not very good. First off, I had no clue what I was supposed to do, so I just sort of walked up there and followed everyone else. A lot of the stuff was frozen-- not fresh. So you give them your bowl of various frozen foods and one of the two or three guys will take your bowl and throw it on the grill. I wasn't a fan of that method. The grill was gross, they used the same spatula for everybody, and the floor was super greasy. The food was alright but I was surprised I didn't get food poisoning. Won't be going back. read more

Love this place we go several times a year and everyone from the my daughter who is now 5 but loved it at 3 to my 86 year old grandma loves it. Never had a issue, they are great about accomodating allergies as well! Yes the meat is frozen and I for one am glad, talk about un appetizing well how about going over to thawed piles of warm gooey chicken to get your food...yuck. Glad they freeze the meats and always have a great selection of meat and seafood, the veggies are great and the sauces are wonderful! People complaining that once it's cooked up it's not enough food need to remember it's a buffet, if it's not enough then go back thru for crying out loud! so as i walked in and sat down at the bar, and was 1 of 3 customers at the bar, it took about 15 minutes, then the bartender comes over with a beer, and i hadnt even ordered anything. she looked confused and remarked that she was confused and asked how long i had been there. not good in a customer oriented business. food was good as usual. however after i ordered the soup to start and rice to accompany the food, my soup and rice was brought out after i already went and got a plate. disnt touch the soup since i had my food already. i was passed by the manager as he was greeting other customers. didnt get to offer my opinion of my visit. i was only checked in on once after my food was there. for not being busy they sure seemed "occupied". 3 stars just for the food 0 stars for the service. read more

My mom and I have visited Hu Hot in Springfield a lot and I must say every time we do, I remember why I love it so much. Creating my own meal is awesome and the fact I can make it as hot as I like (and I LOVE hot foods) is an excellent plus for me. Their selection of veggies and noodles as well as meat is really good and they have a lot of different sauces you can choose from (mild to hot). Once you create your dish you hand it over to the cooks and get to watch them cook your meal and hand it back to you steaming hot and delicious. My mom and I have never had a problem with under-cooked food or noodles as some people have mentioned and we go there quite often. You can create as many dishes as you like and the price is just right. Definitely somewhere I would suggest to those who haven't been and definitely somewhere we'll be going back to! read more

We ate on Aug 4 and I promised my stomach and my taste buds that I will never make them endure such miser again. I have eaten at theses type of restaurants in many states and some were okay and some were really good but this Huhut is terrible. There were several people having their food cooked at the same time, the two guys cooking couldn't keep up with what they put on the grill. The food just laid there with the sauce burning. When the cleaned the surface of the grill the scraping would fly into people's food that was still on the grill. The hot n sour soup was so bad one taste is all it took to dump it. Was there a week ago. Too expensive for what is is- a cheap imitation of really good less expensive places like Chang's in Portland Oregon. Pot stickers and Krab Rangoon served with what this place calls sweet and sour sauce- I all actuality it's a loose gelatin like tomato flavored substance. Totally YUCK!!! The Hot and Sour soup was a disaster- temperature was but it was not sour nor hot( spicy). I asked for water with a lemon wedge and instead I got some of that lightly flavored crap out of the 101 ways to make your Coke product gross machine. The guys at the grill were total slobs trying to impress customers as they threw egg shells in the ground. All they cared about was trying to increase the tip jar for the shift. Here's a hint: don't act like classless clowns who Todd trash willie nillie. Listen to your customers and stop pushing a worthless gift card purchase on them with that dumb "Christmas in July" line. read more

I'm giving this three stars because of the hostess at the front. She had attitude from the moment I walked in and when I asked if I could sit in a booth, so I could sit in a quiet place to do some work, she rolled her eyes and and said, "ummmm....." And looked around for a good 30 seconds. In the meantime, the restaurant is like 5% full so there are numerous booths available. I told her, "it's not a big deal, don't worry about it." So she took the menus and slammed them on the table and walked away without saying anything. I heard her go to the back and start complaining about me and how dare I ask to sit in a booth. My husband and decided to try the HuHot for the first and last time. You walk in thinking this looks to be an enjoyable atmosphere until you visit the food line which is in the back of the restaurant for a very good reason and after going to prepare my food I wish I had checked it out before ordering because I would have left. First you start off with a small bowl and then proceed to the frozen meat selection which did not look very appealing. I like seafood and was hoping to find shrimp or octopus but instead they had chunks of salmon and cod. You then get a choice of 3 noodles before hitting the vegetables. I couldn't believe they had frozen asparagus pieces and frozen red and green peppers. I like my vegetable to be fresh so they have a little crunch to them after they are cooked on a Mongolian grill but these came out nice and mushy. They did offer a large choice of sauces and oils for you to pour into your bowl of frozen meat and vegetables before going to your last stop, the most disgusting grill area I have ever seen. They have a bar around a pit with a Mongolian grill in the center surrounded by 5-6 sweaty guys cooking everybody's food. You put your bowl on top of the bar and wait for room on the grill and this space is obtained after they scrape the person ahead of you food in a holding tube in the center of the grill. They then scrape this tool off on the side of the grill were they store the cooking utensil they use to prepare your food. The floor in the area had pieces of dropped food all over the place and it just looked greasy. As I stood watching them cook my food I was hoping that the person's food that laid next to mine didn't run and mix with my selection. My husband said it didn't matter how many sauces they had out because everything on the grill seemed to run together making it all taste the same we left this place wishing we had gone up the street to Great Wall. read more

This is by far my favorite place to eat in Springfield! My roommate introduced me to HuHot and every chance we get, we go back. The atmosphere is great; they did really well redecorating from the previous restaurant, the food is awesome, and the staff is great. I am amazed by the wide selection of food awaiting our "pillage". I was worried at first by the frozen meats and veggies, but the grill does a great job at thawing out the food, while still keeping it tender. Anyway, who wants food that has been sitting at room temperature...especially meat? Can you say food poisoning? The wide variety of sauces and oils give you endless taste possiblities. They recommend using 5-6 ladles of sauce, and you want to use at least two ladles of oil so that your meal doesn't stick to the grill. My only two complaints is that the bowls need to be a little larger to accommodate the sauce/oil meniscus; and the fact that you have two lines converging into one grill line. If you aren't there at rush hour, the line moves pretty quickly. The grill masters are fun to watch and they all have a great attitude. They really seem to enjoy their job. Service with a smile. Overall, I recommend this to anyone looking for something different to eat in Springfield. You get your money's-worth...if you are going to order something like cashew chicken, go to any one of the hundred Chinese places all over town. Slowest place I have ever been. Spent 20 minutes getting our food the first time and then 25 minutes the second time. If you have children and you eat more than a child's portion then plan on spending 2 plus hours to eat a buffet for $13 a person! I am sure you are say well it was dinner and busy, it was dinner but not busy! I think they were so slow people were getting hungry again waiting over and over in line for so long. Best frozen meat in town! They try to clean the cooking utensils randomly between cooked meet, raw meet and don't forget to throw the raw egg to spread around between the various raw and cooked items! I think they clean the grill every month need it or not. The guy scraps off the top layer before they cook yours so I am sure it is fine. Don't forget your sauce many were empty and it look like they cleaned it up the night before. Or maybe just a bunch of 10 year old were in front of me and spilt every sauce all over every square inch of the area. I would expect this place to get some new management or they will not be open much longer. I have never posted reviews but I am going to place my comments for this place every place I can find. To charge as much as they do and have such bad service they will be gone soon! read more
