Had lunch with a friend and had a great experience. The Hawaiian Poke bowl was amazing and my friend had the lunch specialty, sirloin steak with Mac & cheese. It looked great too. My boyfriend took us here for date night and I'm still thinking about the delicious meal we had. He, is more of a "foodie" than I am. So the nigiri we ordered had me trying a lot of things I had never had. Being from the west coast, I didn't have high hopes for good sushi... but was pleasantly surprised! I was on a work lunch or I would have taken photos of everything, from the fish pond at the front, bright white interior, tons of sunlight, everything was super clean, to the very nice bathrooms. Great date spot or lunch spot either way! We were recommended to get crab rangoon and the server told us they have the best rangoons in Springfield. They were very good, sitting in a flavorful sauce, that I could have spooned off the plate into my mouth, but I held back. My colleague was recommended the Mandarin Chicken, he was very happy with his decision. I ordered the tuna poke bowl, it was a lot like a sushi roll, deconstructed. I've been going back and eating the macadamia nut chicken for more than 5 years. It's outstanding. Everything they do is amazing. I moved to the area about 8 years ago and tried this place for the first time when vendors brought us OZ catering. I found the desserts to be the best part of the meal, and remember (vividly) thinking "wow, this sushi is real stinky". Fish has a fish smell sure, but this was unlike any sushi I've had before. The odor was jarring. Retried Ocean Zen last month. Had sushi, ribs, and a seared tuna steak. The fish was unbearable smelly to the point where I was not comfortable eating more than 2-3 bites. The food is good. But the waiters/waitresses up sell everything so you feel like you can't really enjoy it saying no to everything they ask you. Nothing special about it just small and simple rolls but cost more than the other Authentic Sushi Restaurant! Order their infamous ribeye steak, half the people were ordering it and recommending. For $36 it's not bad, the seasoning is good and taste delicious.I just didn't like alot of the fats hanging around the steak. Maybe next time request them to trim off some. First try here wasn't bad. I hate doing this... I am from Miami area Florida, one of the best places to get sushi in the US, so my expectations weren't high, but. Man if this wasn't the worst quality for price sushi I've ever had. I've eaten everything from 20$ rolls to 4$ rolls at quick stop hibachi bars. This was by far the worst. The soft shell was near burnt to a crisp, the tuna roll was almost the texture of cartilage, and all of it had the oddest musky overtone. I am a good lover and a good finisher. I never take my meals for granted, though I attempted over a 5 hour period to not allow my money and that food to go to waste, it was in vain, I could hardly stomach the stuff. The quality of the seafood is lacking and the preparation is low. I had one piece of tuna that was literally stiff it was so cold....and Nagiri that was cut across the grain so badly it was tough. Please try other sushi places and TASTE the food. Don't be swayed by drinks, lights and music. This is a BAR that does appetizer quality seafood. Also....I went to a meeting here with a group this summer. Their air conditioning could not keep up with the sun and window heat....even a sun shaded window.
