Our waiter was happy, knowledgable and professional about the menu. The meat and veggie ingredients are fresh and new. Watching the cooks prepare your food right in front of you is a great experience and very entertaining; be sure to bring single dollar bills to tip after the grilling. The food was good, but just because I knew what I was doing. I'm not really sure if I should have tipped my waiter, he was completely worthless. He never offered me soup or salad, and only came by twice to check the water, nothing else. Chefs were friendly. Lack of beer selection(supposedly draft wasn't working). First time experience was a nice one. We went at lunch time , before the work crowd. So we were served drinks as soon as we sat down. We had a large group and once the work crowd came in we were way to close to the other people to try and get past to get to the buffet. The meat and vegetable buffet was a good selection. They have signs that say "get one bowl",but its obvious from all the customers who frequent "Huhot" , that its ignored. I saw many filling one bowl for meats and one for veggys. Which is the way to go anyway. Then you move over to the sauce bars. Where they cater to every need ranging from sweet to sour and mild to hot. My husband had a corn allergy and can't have all the sauces, but that was not an issue either, cause they had plain to flavored oils to season the meat and veggys. After the sauce bar, you line up along the back wall to wait your turn for the two guys to fry them up in front of you. They have it down to a science. I compleatly lost track of my food once it hit the grill, but they gave it back to me just as I ordered. The one thing I do have a problem with is when it gets crowded , the sauces from your neighbors food gets into yours. The grillers try to keep them all separate, but the liquids DO mingle. Also , when your food is on the grill, they are cleaning the grill across from your food. They move so fast and push the water cleaner mix so fast to the center of the grill where the trash is , that there's no way it does not hit your food! Its not the smartest way to do it. Definitely hit or miss at this location. Usually the experience is ok, but tonight was really bad. Service was poor, others that came in after us got waited on before us. Had to ask for silverware, rice etc a second time. Ordered a to go order along with what we were eating there. It came out on a plate, and after asking them again to put it in a to go container, we never received the food! Finally had to track down a manager so we could pay and get out. After 5 minutes the kitchen help found him and I asked to pay...and instead he said if you didn't have a good time...then go on and get out of here...and we did...and we won't be back. read more

It's good. It's probably healthier than many other eat-out options in the Topeka area. We enjoy it - except for the price, which seems a bit high... don't get me wrong though - good food. However, if you want to sit and talk to someone during your meal, you're going to have a difficult time. It's noisy. Banging utensils on the grill, commotion from the other diners and if you want a second plate, the meal is interrupted and it's never a fast time thru the line. The food has to cook after all. So, there's that disruption too. My suggestion: go at an irregular meal time. 3pm for lunch or 4pm for dinner. There will be less of a wait, the food selections will be topped off and there won't be a line at the grill, all of which equals a more pleasant dining experience in my book. read more

We've waited a long time to live near a Mongolian Grill after loving a place in the Seattle area. Huhot is a very close second to Chang's. Lunch prices are better than dinner. I love this place. I've been here many times and I've never been disappointed. The food is always wonderful and the service great. The only complaint I have is the ice tea which is very good congress in a glass small enough to be a shot glass. This makes unnecessary work on your staff. Ate here Sat night and it's your typical Mongolian grill. Have to knock the other reviews saying it was unclean and that they used water to scrub the grill, those people obviously have never been to a open grill before. Anyways service was fast even for a Saturday night, plates were cleared and drinks refreshed before we got back to the table every time. The only reason this place got 3 stars instead of 4 was they messed up our bill. For 2 people, and we have the receipt came to 35 dollars. We tipped the grill guys in their jar 10 bucks and left cash for the "server", 5 dollars. Checked the credit card statement and they charged 43 so adding a 8 dollar tip on top of the 30 and 15% we already left, which on the receipt was written in "cash". Would def reccomend, with a caveat of check your acct statement later to dispute charges if needed. read more

HuHot is a decent chain of Mongolian BBQ restaurants, and I visit whenever I can. I will preface this by saying that I love HuHot Mongolian BBQ. I love them so much that I have the T-shirt that entitles me to 10% off for life, as well as the loyalty card which allows you to accrue points towards a free meal. I only make it up to HuHot on occasion as it's about a 40-minute drive from my home in a direction that I never go, but I do make it a point to go to HuHot for my birthday, or make it a point to eat there when I am in town. But, while I love HuHot, I don't actually love this HuHot, as I think the other locations I have been in are strictly better than this one in layout and selection. HuHot is a Mongolian BBQ, which functions like a reverse buffet where customers build a bowl of raw food items from the buffet line (i.e. meats, noodles, vegetables, and sauces) and then those are cooked up on a circular grill. HuHot typically has several meat selections, including beef, chicken, pork, sausage, and usually a couple of seafood options like pollock and/or squid. On weekends and Wednesday evenings, the bar also features shrimp. Following these are three selections of noodles that can be cooked up in the stir-fry, and a selection of vegetables like onions, peppers, spinach, et c. Finally, the customers choose sauces at the sauce bar and ladle them over the filled bowl or bowls of raw foods to go on the grill. The sauces range from the completely mild up to spicier selections, and there are also accompanying liquids to add for additional flavor profiles (e.g. garlic oil, spicy chili oil, lemon juice). The bowl(s) are then taken to the cooks to be prepared on the circle grill. The circle grill is a common element to Mongolian BBQ restaurants. Basically, it's a large donut-shaped steel disc that has gas elements underneath it. The elements heat the griddle, but there are hot and less-hot spots on the surface, an the cooks use these to evenly prepare your food. The also work in a pattern to ensure that all the items on the griddle get turned and cooked properly, and to ensure that the food put on is ultimately given to the person who brought it to the grill. It's interesting to watch the level of organization with which they work as it first appears to be chaos on the grill, but the pattern of how it all works emerges through observation. The primary reason I like HuHot is that you can create the dish that you want to eat from the elements that they have on the bar, but you can go back and create something entirely different by using more or less of something here, or more or less of something there. The customization and the ability to tailor your food puts you in control of making something that you like. read more

We had dinner here tonight. The cooks were pleasant, as was our server, but we felt the buffet wasn't as clean as it should have been. There was lots of food and sauces dribbled on the edges of the serving tables and several times I'd reach in to ladle some sauce out and find chunks of vegetable or pineapple that had fallen off other peoples' bowls into the sauce. read more

Just in case you mess up a sauce combination and need to go back through the line. We have eaten here at the HuHut Mongolin Grill a number of times and have usually enjoyed the good. What is out of control and is causing us to question if we want to return anymore is the level and type of music played. It is much too loud to be able to visit/hear anyone, even the wait staff... at the table with us and is certainly not conducive to enjoyable dining. There is enough noise from the grill. read more

I found it hard to rate this place because it's so easy to forget. While the experience of creating your own meal can be fun and somewhat adventurous, it can sometimes be a disaster and if you have a conscience about wasting food, the guilt may set in. I once went to a HuHot in Madison, WI and seem to recall them having little cards that have "recipes" or suggestions for your plate... I don't think I've seen them around at this location. HuHot can get pricey, also.. And that's a bit of a downer for me. I don't really see the point in ordering additional items when there's the option of creating huge plates of whatever you want BUT there have been a couple of occasions where extras have been ordered at my table. The crab rangoon is pretty tasty.. But once we all got soup. I ordered the egg drop soup and literally after a few spoonfuls was dehydrated from the overload of sodium. So... Avoid that. read more

I've eaten here four times, always as part of a work group that has picked this place for lunch. The idea is appealing, but I have found the food displeasing everytime I've eaten here. I like Asian food, and have eaten happily in similiar type of Mongolian resturants in Kansas City. But for some reason that I've never been able to identify, the food does not taste good to me hear, even though I stick with the kinds of sauces I know I like.
