    Da Situation without the egg

Ordered the Da Situation without the egg with crisp pork. I would have liked the pork to be more crisp and have more salas otherwise everything else was good. Great portion. Good customer service.

This bad boy was parked right outside my apartment community and I was compelled to try it out. They have an eclectic but seemingly yummy looking menu. I was not very hungry so I just got an appetizer, my mamas lumpia. They are your standard egg rolls with deep fried shells and a not so standard filling of ground pork, shrimp and water chestnuts. I enjoyed the crunchy outer cover and the savory inside. The sweet and spicy sauce on the side was a nice addition. Definitely gonna try out the other offerings if I come across this truck again. 8/10 would go back again!

3.5 stars In the Bay Area, it's not unusual to see Hawaiian and Filipino foods and cultures intersect. On the Hula Truck menu, you'll find both kalua pork and chicken adobo. I was able to try the latter in their Rice, Rice Baby dish. Boneless, skinless chicken thigh had the essence of adobo but wasn't executed with consummate skill; could not discern bold, classic vinegar-soy sauce-garlic flavoring. The adobo rice, though a bit mushy, had more striking flavor. We also tried "Mama's Lumpia," a generous potion of egg rolls that seem to be their version of Lumpiang Shanghai with a flavorful, moist filling of pork, green onions, & water chestnuts. Wrapper was not greasy but had that satisfying crunch with every bite that I dipped into the side of sweet chili sauce! Make a beeline for the truck with a hula girl painted on -- she's got the bomb lumpia. Total for two items was $21.

Even though it really hasn't been all that long since my trip to Hawaii, I'm dying to go back. Sure, finally finishing all of my reviews probably has something to do with it, but what is there not to miss about that island life? The beaches, the gorgeous sunsets, the beautiful weather, the food, the tanned and pretty girls...sigh. Alas, I may not be able to do much about most of those, but at least I can still find some of those tasty grinds! While I may not have known much about the Hula Truck before randomly stumbling across them, I was stoked to check them out after I skimmed through their menu and scrolled through their reviews on Yelp. Their menu isn't purely Hawaiian (half of it is Filipino), but just about everything sounded equally delicious - from from Hawaiian plate lunches, to burritos, to some delicious looking tots. So much so, in fact, that I knew I was going to have to make multiple trips here before I could write this review! --MY MAMA'S LUMPIA - Deep Fried Egg Rolls Filled with Ground Pork, Shrimp, and Water Chestnuts served with a Sweet Chili Sauce...$7.75 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hula-truck-santa-clara?select=p2Jr81x-nZ-Cf1uH3LJwog) To this day, no lumpia has ever topped the ones my friend's mom made for me years ago, but these were pretty damn close! Not only are they fried up perfectly, but they're super meaty and just straight up delicious with or without the sauce. Honestly, I'd come back just for this! -- BAYRITTO - Choice of Meat with Crispy Tater Tots, Pico de Gallo, Cheese, and their Hula Sauce...$9.75 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hula-truck-santa-clara?select=GLmoebPsOwVgdA6U_birTQ) I've had this with their LECHON KAWALI (Crispy Pork Belly), KAHLUA PORK, and CHICKEN ADOBO and all three were terrific. I liked the crispiness of the fried pork belly (and the tots) and how the adobo didn't have a lot of vinegar to it, but the Kahlua Pork was my favorite, as it had a nice, peppery flavor to it. Add an egg for $1 if you want to "hula it up". -- HULA'S PLATE - Plate Lunch with Jasmine Rice, Mac Salad, and Choice of Meat...$10.75 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hula-truck-santa-clara?select=A9ZTMf4G3a46WGn-8yv6jA) Apparently, getting the PORK TOCINO (Sweet Marinated Pork) was the right call, as I got the last scoop! The sweetness got to be a bit much after a while, but I thought this was pretty good (super juicy). As for the mac salad, it was fine but nothing all that special. Beyond how good I've found the food from the Hula Truck to be, I was just as impressed with how fast the service is here. Most food trucks are decently quick, but it felt like my orders have come out especially quick from these guys. Perfect for grabbing a quick lunch on the go...and to get my hands on their amazingly good Hula Truck! Whenever I see these guys around, it's hard for me to pass them up. Especially if it means getting a shot at finally trying their Da Situation totchos! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

SO GOOD!! Tried the lumpias and they were honestly perfectly cooked. I had a couple when they came fresh out and saved a couple for later - and they tasted just as amazing even after a few hours! I have to say these were probably some of the best lumpias I've had in the Bay Area! I also tried the Adobo Omelette and it delicious! The chicken was super flavorful and they gave me a spicy sauce with it which was the perfect kick. Also service was super fast! There were almost 10+ people when I got there but everyone's orders were out within 5-10 minutes. Appreciated that they were not only quick with orders but also super sanitary so I could feel at ease while eating my food. I plan to be back soon to try their burrito cause that sounds amazing and hope to continue supporting this food truck because not only is their food amazing but they're also local! Definitely recommend a visit if they're in the area!!

Twin Peaks. Ordered the, you guessed it, twin peaks. $10.00 Tina's Travels and Tabloid - Two kalua pork sliders served on Hawaiian rolls with bacon jam, special hula sauce, and an egg. - Food trucks sits outside of Y2E2 building on Stanford campus. You have to get there early; although, they're fairly quick. - Takes Square as payment, which is a plus! - They've been everywhere from the likes of it. Cupertino, SF, here, everywhere as they are a very known food truck. - People working are friendly and suggestive! - I tasted a bit of "Da Situation" it was quite greasy with the pork belly (duh! that's what pork belly is ... fat), but the tater tots were crunchy as they should be! - Can I say this was scrumptious and delightfully satisfying?! - Once in a blue moon, I'll find you!

I discovered this food truck at off the grid in San Mateo over the summer! They attended every Wednesday, and I attended most weeks. The Tocino burrito was my absolute favorite, especially how they combined it with hashbrowns to give it a hearty crunch. The meat was so sweet yet savory, flavorful, and very crispy!

I have been a Hula Truck fan for years, stating from when I discovered the truck at Off the Grid in San Mateo. The family favorite is the omelet, which is fried rice with chicken wrapped by the omelet. The flavor of the rice and the juiciness of the chicken really makes this dish.

I'd been following the Hula truck on IG for awhile now. Finally the stars aligned and they were close enough by and I was free. They were at a local brewery over the weekend. I like that I can support two businesses in one and enjoy both yummy food and drink. I arrived soon after they opened and the line was long. I think we ended up waiting like 20-25 minutes to order. Also it was close to lunch time so I think everyone was pretty hungry. The line was steady but way shorter as the afternoon went on, until the truck left for the day. We ordered the bayrito with tocino, Da situation with lechon and the lumpia. Everything we had was good. The bayrito was stuffed with the sweet pork and tater tots and we even added an egg to it. The tater tots added a nice crunch but the longer you wait, they will get soggy in the burrito so try to enjoy it fresh. Also loved the flavor of the tocino. I just wish the pieces of pork were cut slightly smaller so that I'm not pulling a huge piece of pork with some bites. The egg really brought it together. Da situation is just loaded tater tots - with your choice of protein and of course you can get an egg on top, which we did. The tater tots were fresh and hot and crunchy - so good. We got it with lechon and the pork belly unfortunately seemed double fried, as in it was left over from a previous time or cooked earlier and then re-heated up again. I might get it again to give it a second try but it wasn't the best when we went, as it was just overly crispy and dry. And the lumpia was just alright - it was good but I think I've had better at other places. I did appreciate the freshness and the sweet dipping sauce it came with. I really wanted to try the adobo omelet and the rice plate with some of their other proteins so I'll have to keep stalking them and hopefully can try more stuff off their menu soon.

Their slogan is that they will put eggs on anything, and they honestly are correct in that regard. Pretty much everything they have has the option of having egg on it. Which is great if you're an egg lover like myself. Who doesn't love cholesterol? Service is fast, but I wish they had more meat options? It's pretty much chicken and pork so that might limit your preference and what you might end up getting. Prices are pretty typical of food trucks. It's not as cheap as you would expect, but the quality is always top notch. Or most of the the time at least. The burrito with egg and tater tots was fantastic. Overall, a big thumbs up!

I really love their Bayrito and lumpias! They have Filipino food and burrito but I usually just order the same thing every time. The service here was fast. It just sucks how I have to track down where they are going to be at. You can track where they will be at on their Facebook and Instagram page @hulatruck408 which they consistently update.

Before you knew it, tables were filling up with families out to celebrate or post-church. The decor is fun, lots to look at and they have games at the table. The sisig was amazing, melt in your mouth and flavorful albeit a bit salty. They ran out of the cantaloupe drink which made me sad because thats one of my favorites, but I got a calamansi drink instead and that was refreshing and cold which was perfectly paired with the fairly fatty and dense crispy pata. The pickled cucumbers on the side are a perfect addition to the salty meat. Overall, good experience! Garlic rice could've been a tad more flavorful in my opinion but other than that, delicious.

Not sure if it's their seasoning or the chicken was freezer burnt. Lechon Kawali - this was the best meat in the combo. Crunchy fried outside but juicy at the same time. Good ratio of fat to meat. Yummy. Garlic rice was not oily and good serving size. Also had 2 over medium eggs. Came with pickled cucumber in sweet vinegar brine. Also came with 3 dips: ketchup, vinegar and the sweet peppery lechon sauce. Cost $30. Nice staff. 3 Stars then and now.

Thankfully, there was plenty of street parking right around. We walked in and saw the good selection of food available on the steam table. We both ordered a 2-item plate; mine had the lechon kawali (deep fried pork) and the longanisa (breakfast sausage), while she chose the sisig (chopped up pork cooked with onion and jalapeños) and fried bangus (milkfish). Our plates also came with steamed rice and soup. Since this is a cafeteria style place, our food was ready to eat (though our server offered to heat up the bangus a little in the kitchen). The lechon was very good, not too fatty but still had plenty of crispy skin to go along with the meat. The longanisa was also tasty, very sweet and not spicy. My devoured the bangus, dipping it in spicy vinegar. Since we were in a bit of a hurry, we took some of our food home for breakfast the day. This is a very solid place for a quick meal. There isn't much seating inside, and there were many orders placed to-go while we were having lunch. Will definitely return the next time we're in the area.

It leans m heavily on the greasy side, but it delivers that exact, deeply savory Filipino flavor profile that you just crave. The Winners: The pancit (noodles) was good and hit the spot. The beef with gravy, the classic Beef Mechado (stewed with potatoes in a rich tomato-based gravy), was another highlight, incredibly flavorful. The Critique: (Timing is Key) You should try to time your visit right. If you catch them right at a transition or later in a service stretch, some items can sit a bit. On our last visit, the deep-fried pork belly (lechon kawali) and the chicken adobo were unfortunately on the dry side. Next Time's Order: The Lumpia Shanghai (mini fried pork spring rolls) are light, crispy, and a crowd favorite. Definitely add a side of those on your next trip! It's an unassuming, local gem that serves up great flavor; just try to get there when the batches are fresh out of the kitchen!
