The photos are incredibly outdated as this truck no longer serve mac and cheese nor collard greens, which are two dishes that I enjoy. It was honestly the saddest sandwich I have ever seen. The waffle was barely the same quality as what you would get at the continental breakfast served at your local inn. The cheese was sliced processed cheese that you get at Safeway and the fried chicken was worse than what you get at KFC. The cherry on top was that the maple syrup that they gave you with the waffles was a packaged condiment like what you would get at a fast food joint. I recently had the "I'm Spicy and I Know It" at Off the Grid: Presidio Picnic. This sandwich is a spicy chicken breast, onions, peppers, and crispy fried cheese inside a halved waffle. The sandwich looked amazing when I peeked in the (compostable) container, and the first bite was heaven. The chicken was moist, hot, and perfectly done; the waffle was nicely brown and just sweet enough. A little container of syrup was included, and I grabbed some hot sauce (Frank's) from the condiment bar just in case. As I continued eating, the shine wore off a bit. The peppers and onions were so skimpy I had to look for them. The chicken wasn't very spicy at all and I was glad for the extra hot sauce. The halved waffle kind of fell apart; using a waffle for each side of the sandwich would be better. The whole thing would have benefited tremendously from a dill pickle or two. These changes are all minor, attainable, and for an $11 sandwich not at all unreasonable to ask for. I still really liked my sandwich, and the price point was pretty good for Off the Grid. (Remember, it's first world, Bay Area street food!) I'd say it's one of the best trucks that was there that day. Still, next time I'll probably look for something that's both exciting at the beginning of the meal, and satisfying at the end. read more
