So i had the worst experience you could imagine. First i went in about 730 at night. Not super busy and was able to pick a table. Ordered a beer and buffalo wings. Got the beer right away but about 30 minutes later still no wings. I asked the waitress and she went to check and said the will be right out. They finally came out and the first wing i took i bight out od was raw. Not a little pink but completly raw. I showed the server and just asked to pay for my beer and leave. The service wasn't terrible but it wasnt good either. However the one nail in the coffin was the wings taking over 30 minutes just to come out raw. The waitress was super apologetic and said dont worry about the beer. All in all I dont think ill ever visit this establishment again read more

This place has great food and great in person customer service. I ordered over the phone and asked for their chicken tenders to be tossed in a Buffalo sauce. The girl on the phone said they don't normally suggest that due to the beer batter soaking the sauce quickly and becoming soggy. I told her I'd still like to do it if that was something they would be willing to do and I was met with a reluctant attitude. I insisted it would be alright if that's not something she could do but she went on. I also asked for an extra side of ranch and an extra side of Suicide sauce (it's delicious, if you're a spice lover I'd highly recommend it) as well as an order of their fried mushrooms. She gave me the total (~$19) and told me they'd see me in 25. When hearing the price, I figured she had forgotten to add the mushrooms and decided it wasn't worth calling back about. I head to the store and am quickly greeted by a man who seemed nothing but happy to help. I let him and the other waitress/ bartender know I was there to pick up my food. The waitress confirms I'm just picking up the tenders and I agree. She hands my food and I headed out. Finally upon inspecting my order, the only thing that was right was the fries and the Buffalo covered chicken. As far as the taste, the Buffalo chicken was juicy and tender and the fries were a bit dry and tasted burnt. I had tried a few different ones and they all left a gross taste in my mouth. It was a bit disappointing to find out I paid $23 for what ended up being only a few pieces of chicken. If you're looking to place a phone order, I'd just suggest getting them to read back the order no matter how annoyed they seem with you. read more

Got a take out order, called in over the phone. Lady who took our order was super nice. Got back to the hotel, realized they put no utensils or napkins in with out order. They let us know when we ordered that they were out of hummus for the Hummus Tostada salad, but they said they could do it with everything else but without the hummus. The salad was missing basically everything. No salsa, no sour cream, no guacamole. It was basically an overpriced house salad. French dip was good (I'd give 4 stars) as were the chicken strips. We were too late to visit a brewery/brewpub/taproom in the area, so we figured Humboldt Brews would be a nice place to try some local beers. Nope. They were out of pretty much anything interesting that you can't get in the rest of California. Settled for an Old Rasputin and a cocktail. The benefit of being open late turned out to be pointless as well; all signs point to them closing at midnight, but around 10:30 there was a mass exodus and the staff was counting tips. Clientele is noisy/drunk. One star for the dirty hemptini, which was a good idea with so-so execution, and one star for the kind waitress (who seemed to be the the only server for the whole place...yikes). read more

Sad thing is the management of the facility killed the mood of a good concert. I walked in half way through the opener and there was nobody collecting tickets or a ticket stand I could find. There was then controversy over me walking into the concert venue after I looked for a ticket taker, well all I was waiting for was direction for someone etc. So after getting my ticket I stood at the bar for a good 10 minutes and watched several people get served who came up after me, it wasn't busy and the bartender was CLEARLY ignoring me. I've been to over a thousand concerts and many many venues. It was my first time here and definitely my last I don't care who's playing. read more

In addition to a daily house made soup and beautifully crafted salads, they have sandwiches and burgers that are awesome. And (get ready for this, my vegetarian and vegan friends!) you can get any of the burgers made with your choice of veggie burger patty, tofu patty or go for the smoked tofu patty as I did. (The veggie burger patty is not vegan as it has parmesian cheese in it.) Fries are very good and plentiful and I loved the seasoned salt! You can also choose from sweet potato fries, beautiful mixed Green salad, and I believe a few other choices. Tons of beer choices and full bar with anything you can imagine. read more

If I were a local college kid, my rating would likely be higher. This was exactly the kind of place I liked when I was a student. But this review is filtered through the lens of an adult eating with children. Boring, I know. We visited on a Sunday night and the place with filled with locals and the Humboldt State crowd. A good, lively vibe with the front half dominated by pool tables and a bar and the back half with tables and a projection TV showing a game. The adjoining space is set up for live music, so this is both a restaurant and music venue. Food was only OK. The way that food in these type of restaurants is typically OK. Although I noted throughout their menu, they do use local produce and Humboldt grass-fed beef. They are definitely trying to be more than a bare bones college hangout. I had a Beef & Lamb Gyro (funny that it had both types of meat) and Mr. K had one of the wraps. He enjoyed his meal more than I enjoyed mine. The highlight was drinking Hemp beer, because that is what you do while visiting Humboldt County. They have approximately 20 brews on tap. We did have an issue with one of the kids' meals. It was in the menu as penne pasta, but we were served spaghetti, which was in a different section of the menu. It wasn't just that we were served the wrong item, but it was in really poor condition. Terribly overcooked (where it looks more like soup, than pasta). It also took us a long time to flag down our server, who didn't return to our table after delivering the food. But, the uneaten item was removed from our tab which I appreciated. We were staying in a nearby, very quiet, coastal town, so the energy of the place was appreciated. I came here with a hunger for two things: deep fried food and beer. To start off, we ordered two orders of calamari because one isn't enough to share between three huge fans. Upside: the seasoning was a bit on the spicy side, which we really liked. Downside: Because they fried the squid whole, the batter tended to slide off. That's okay though, we enjoyed it overall. For my own dish, I got the fish snapper tacos; one fried and another grilled. The creamy lime sauce and cabbage brought a fresh and interest element to the tacos. Humbrews used to be my absolute favorite place to go for food, beer, and entertainment. I would go at least two times a week for lunch or dinner- especially since it's two blocks from my house. They have excellent food- it's always delicious. You can never go wrong with pretty much anything. The salads are large and filling, the appetizers are always piping hot and savory, and the portions for everything else are perfect. When I am feeling like splurging calorie-wise, I get my absolute favorite item here: the Shroomers Melt. It's so fantastically delicious- I can't get enough. It's literally dripping down my face each time. The mushrooms and the cheese mix so well together, and the bread is always crispy, never soggy. I often leave with some leftovers for later. Their beer list has something for everyone, and it's ever-changing. They usually have 20 beers on tap. You'll never be disappointed with their selection. The service is always prompt, also. Some evenings it's really crowded, and we will still be served within a reasonable time. Every time I go, I hope I get James as our server. He's super kind, funny, friendly, and honest. Now, I normally would give this place a four star rating. However, the prices for food recently went up quite a bit, and that really bugs me. I love to build my own burger here, but since I like to get a few add-ons (no one wants a dry, plain tofu-burger), a tofu burger ($10 flat) with pepper-jack cheese ($1 add on), avocado ($2 add on), and grilled onions ($1 add on) runs me $14. It just kind of bums me out that I have to pay $15 (they charge .50 for a side of ranch- a must for dipping!) for a burger and fries. Plus you can't go here and not get a pint or two! When I'm feeling like eating light, I like to get a soup and salad or just the Caesar Salad with added avocado (or sometimes falafal) - both options running me $12. I don't know, I hate to complain about this place because I really love it, but the higher prices have discouraged me from coming here so often these days. I like coming here for the great shows they put on. They also have a monthly Soul Night which is a fun time to let loose and dance to funk DJs all night. Yesterday was my first time going to Humboldt brews and I'm never going back. I specifically went to drink and I asked the waiter where on the menu were the drinks he pointed the the QR code. I saw only beers but I prefer mixed drinks once he came around again I asked if there was a menu for a drink. I don't have a go to drink I like to try different ones. He responded back like I was an idiot that that was all he can give me and apologized for not being fancy enough but mentioned they were a bar. Implying they can make anything. I asked if they had a menu since I searched up the place and saw a picture of a cocktail list it's not a reach they might have a menu. I asked for two specific drinks said they didn't have the flavors or a blender after googling some drinks. He offered a margarita I said why not. I didn't suggest that one since usually they're blended, I was given a lime margarita. I asked for a strawberry for the second round. He said they didn't have strawberry syrup. He said it was a bar yet they can't make a simple strawberry margarita. I find it ridiculous he couldn't tel me what they couldn't do since the options were limited. well I was clairvoyant as my daughter is now a freshman and here with family for parents weekend. We went here 3 times to watch sports AND have a good beer. The good - the waiters and waitresses were all very nice from uber hipster to casual. the food is really decent pub food, not the best but for this area a good price choice. Most everything is in the $12 price range. Good beer selection The not as good - on Friday night young parents with screaming kids. Having a younger son with ADHD I totally understand BUT if you are there for a game on the TV, please as I used to have to do 99% of the time, take your kids home. Also re: the beer list - from North San Diego county I am really into WHERE beer comes from including brewery, location and a bit about it. The list is very plain and doesnt even have the breweries on a few. It was a good "sports bar" to catch the bay area games with my family from SF. Thanks - will definately be back!!! read more

Fun dive spot. Offering a variety of hand crafted beers. With an awesome food menu as well. The sweet potato fries are awesome . You can always tell how good a place is based upon there fries. Very rarely do I give 5 star reviews but this place was GREAT!!! A little loud but the atmosphere is what you would expect from a college town pub. Plus, it was a Friday night! They have a pool table and a few pinball machines as well. Our server Sarah was awesome. She had a lot of tables but she was working really hard and was very nice! I had a cherry hard cider to drink and it was delicious!! Sweet but not too sweet. And the food... The food was SO GOOD!!!! The fries were some of the best restaurant fries I've ever had. Good flavor, not too soggy but not too crispy. They didn't even need ketchup! I got the southwest chicken wrap to eat. I loved how each part of the wrap had its own flavor. The chicken, the black bean corn salsa, the cheese, the guac, even the tortilla would have been delicious on their own, but put them all together and it was so good!!!! "Humboldt Brews" They changed their deep fried pickles from pickle spears to slices/pickle chip shape. If anyone's reading this, myself and others I know were disappointed by this change. The nachos are great and there are chips to eat on, in, and because of the nachos , but definitely a sharing plate because it is so big and tasty . Sharing is caring especially with nachos, and as the saying goes, "sharing is caring, especially with nachos." They have a pool table there too (with real pool players!) intended for playing pool. It takes quarters and the change machine there, located next to the pool table, typically spits out four quarters for every $1 bill inserted. Major . I think they have beer too? I'm not sure though because I don't drink beer . Located in arcata, California, Humboldt brews (or "humbrews" to the in locals). Be hip and call it humbrews! My friend Jordan (AKA Big J.H. as most people know him... famous entertainer , communicator , and television personality from Nuuk, Greenland , big in Miami, Florida ) loves the chicken strips and fries food basket for eating. Love this place. Each time we visit Humboldt this is the first stop on our vacation. We always order the wings and fries basket, I get hot and wife gets mild, which are the best. A lot of fries and very big wings with the basket. Place is kid friendly with videos games like pin ball, pool table, and TVs usually on a sports programs. My daughter loves their grill cheese sandwich which is extra cheese and the fries that come with it. The salads are a great appetizer, a must get. You also can get inexpensive but good Humboldt county beers here two. We usually get 2 of them with our wings and fries. A must place to try when you are in town. read more

We went on. Friday night during Covid in August after a day in Redwood National Park. They have a small outdoor seating area on the sidewalk expanded into the street. They said their grass-fed local burgers were what they were known for and we weren't disappointed! They make a honey chipotle sauce which delicious There isn't really a system for waiting for a table, they don't keep a list and it's a little dog eat dog to get a table but it works out. read more
