Good food but horrible service. Waited for 20 minutes before drink order taken. Staff seemed rude.

HC is sort of a staple for a college town, with wifi, juice, and coffee close to campus. It has had a relatively recent ownership change and it seemed like a good time to update a review. Firstly, portion size seems to have grown, whereas the pricing has stayed the same. Not sure if this is due to new food distributor (with less organic/gf product) or chef/recipes changes. Either way, the staff is now friendlier, the service is quicker, and the breakfasts are bigger. Will update with some lunch comments. read more

Super happy to find this place, thanks to yelp. Had the grass fed burger and german potato salad. Enjoyed both but would have to say the juice was best... Hummingbird elixer. My love had the larry bird which was good and roasted potatoes, but liked my potato salad more. Her favorite tho was taytays chai smoothie and i must say i fancied it as well. DELICIOUS!! The staff is youthful - they make a happy noise behind their counter and are prompt and cheery with us all. Coffee both caf and de - truly excellent. He had three whole grain pancakes and I had the breakfast wrap (the most expensive item on the breakfast menu) and we paid $22 which included a generous tip, 'cause they earned it. The wrap... Included avocado, eggs, lots of bacon, and etc. and was so yummy I wanted MORE &MORE but to tell you the truth the serving size was totally perfect in every way. This place has some wonderful menu options and a very nice ambience. I ordered an omelette with a cream cheese bagel and a latte. The latte was delicious- they have many expresso flavors that make it fun to try out. The omelette was very good, not too dry. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the service and the wait time. We were there for almost an hour, and the place was not extremely busy. A steady stream of people did flow in and out, but not enough to warrant such an extreme amount of time. In addition, I felt like the servers were not as attentive as they could have been. read more

I've only been here once, but now that I'm back in Butte for a few months I'll try and come by HC again. I came here a few months ago (late reviews are my specialty) and really enjoyed it. I got the "Big E" sandwich and "An Old Standard" - which is the apple-carrot-ginger juice. As I remember, the Big E was really good. The hummus was a different, but good, transition from typically overused mayo. Healthy, hearty but did not remind me at all of cardboard. Thumbs up! As for the drink, I'm borderline-addicted to the combo. I find it's pretty hard to mess it up. Visually, it was nice. VERY spacious, as Nada O. already mentioned. I can't really comment on the service, due only to the fact that things like that don't typically stick with me. I'll definitely be coming here again. read more

This place always seems to be busy and it's easy to understand why after you have the food. Service can be a little on the slow side so make sure you have plenty of time but that's the only item I feel needs to be considered. I had the Salmon BLT and I am hooked on it and find it difficult to have anything else. If you want to change it up try it on the Ciabatta bun but outside that it's pretty much perfect. For the sides I find both the German potato salad or the cucumbers with tzatziki sauce to be good choices. read more

This was such a nice surprise to stumble across down the street from my airbnb on a road trip stopover in Butte. Very friendly service and awesome food. This place has great ambiance. Some of our food was great and some not. I agree with other reviews that it may be hit or miss. The service was ridiculously slow and although I was discounted the soup I ordered, as it was too spicy to eat, the way the servers dealt with it was less than a classy restaurant would have done. The Hummingbird Cafe is located right next to the Park Street Community Garden so I knew I was going to love it. The atmosphere is casual, in earth tones with lots of art on the walls. It's bigger than it looks too. The staff was friendly and laid back. Definitely a young crowd. The food was tasty. My man had the Larry bird which he said was good though he would try something else next time we're in town. I had something with tofu and avocado that was bomb. It came with the house goddess sauce which tasted like a sort of peanut dressing and it was yummy. I also tried a soup, which was squash ginger and very nice. The Mexican mocha is definitely worth trying though it's got a kick! If you're in Butte check this place out! read more

Sunday not busy SLOW service. A ton of uncleaned booths. My sandwich was good and reasonable priced. My boyfriends traditional breakfast was just sad and overpriced. "Scrambled" eggs were shook up in a bottle and poored into hot panned and flipped like a sad flat attempt at an omlet. Potatos were good and bread is yummy. read more

This place is AWESOME. We live in Missoula, but like to go over to the Butte area to soak in the hot springs, and we haven't been able to find a good place to eat after soaking (ever since our favorite Chinese place closed), until now! There were so many great options, we had trouble even deciding what to get. But I decided on the traditional breakfast, and my husband got a portabella mushroom omelet. When I ordered, I asked to leave the toast dry because I'm allergic to dairy- and the guy waiting on us said they only use Earth Balance on their toast! So refreshing. Anyway, we got our breakfasts and they were just amazing. The potatoes were perfect- not too oily, fully of flavor, fully cooked, AWESOME bacon, delicious jam for the toast, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Great coffee too. My husband is STILL talking about the omelet, says it is the best one he has ever had (And he is kind of an omelet nut). The prices were great (compared to stuff in Missoula, at least), and I liked the ambiance. It's not a white tablecloth place, but we're not white tablecloth people! It is friendly, fun, and relaxing. Just perfect. We will be back AGAIN AND AGAIN! So glad to have a new place in Butte! :) read more

Loved this little cafe! We passed through on a road trip and wanted something on the healthy side. Lots of great options and everything was made well and with local and fresh ingredients. They have great high chairs for babies, not just the wooden ones with no tray or support. All the girls that worked there were very friendly and cool. I had a 1/2 tuna sandwich with a salad and cup of soup. All were great. Cute space and the deserts looked enticing but had to say no. Highly recommend this place! read more

Stopped in for breakfast. Service was polite and quick. We both had the traditional with meatless patty. Eggs were cooked great, patty was a standard freezer section one, bread was good with jam, and roasted red potatoes. Potatoes could have been cooked more. Sure it's hip and the menu looks great, but the service is weak and uncaring, and my breakfast was not good. I ordered French Toast and it came out cold, as was the frigid syrup which made it even colder. I asked if they could nuke it, was informed they don't have a microwave, and no other solutions were offered. They did not seem concerned or apologetic at all. Flavor and texture weren't even very good. To top it off, my bacon was burnt! So maybe come for the atmosphere and some drinks, but don't expect good meal service... read more

The atmosphere is really pleasant, and the food is unique. It's a bit spendy for the portion sizes which are standard for a cafe, but definitely worth the price. They have many options for vegetarians and vegans which is rare for Butte. read more

Service was sluggish at best , bison burger severely overcooked, and our bill was wrong . We ordered ceaser drinks to no avail on account of the place being out of clamato juice after waiting almost 15 minutes to be told. We won't be back, and most certainly wouldn't suggest anyone trying either read more

Great, cute place if you don't mind waiting 45 minutes for a latte. To be fair someone had called in so they were under staffed but there was no sense of urgency. We finally asked for a refund on our coffees and left. My only regret is that I didn't take my 2.50 back out of the tip jar on the way out and that we wasted our time in the first place. read more
