A wonderfully cozy Italian restaurant with truly excellent service. The intimate space makes reservations a must. The staff is attentive without being intrusive--my water glass was never empty. I forgot to photograph the Bellini, but it deserves special mention: made with fresh peach juice, it was easily the best Bellini I've ever had. I began with complimentary bread, followed by the pasta special of the day--perfectly cooked and finished with freshly shaved black truffle. Lovely, cozy, and authentic Italian spot in the UES serving handmade pastas. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Plus, it was not hard at all to get a reservation on a Friday night. La Chiantigiana di Adriano ($28) - I was initially drawn to this option of "cocoa nibs pasta" expecting it to have some sort of unique cocoa flavor. However, it sort of just tasted like normal pasta, albeit pretty good pasta with tomato sauce and slow cooked braised beef. The interior is not that big but has a nice cozy vibe with dimmed lighting, making for a great date spot. The service speed is fairly quick. And I have to mention again that the staff are really great. Overall, while the pasta wasn't all that special, the vibes and service were and so Da Adriano gets a solid 4 stars from me. read more

We live four blocks from this restaurant, not sure why we have never tried it! We made a reservation for a Friday evening, and this place did not disappoint! We ordered the Blue Fin Tuna Tartar, OMG! Visited da Adriano's for a Saturday afternoon lunch. Great location in the UES. Pass by here regularly, has cozy vibes with a romantic feel. Not a huge space but has both inside/ouside seating. Service was friendly and relatively quick. We ordered the crudo di san daniele and pollo sandwiches. Both were great! This is a small neighborhood Italian spot. Everyone should be lucky enough to have this kind of place in their neighborhood. The service is warm, attentive and professional. The food is delicious and well-presented. This place is about food and dining-well, rather than being about putting on a show and impressing with excess or flash. It is also NOT like the usual UES Italian restaurants, which do have a time and place in everyone's calendar. It reminds me of dining in Italy, where more often than not, the quality of the food at a restaurant takes precedence. The pasta is homemade. We loved the frutti de mare and the gnocchi with pesto. Even the ordinary sounding mixed salad was better than most of the salads I eat all week because of the freshness of ingredients and simple quality dressing. The specials included pasta with shaved truffles and spinach ravioli with sage butter. We did not try them. We came here seeking the best Italian food in the upper east side, which is filled with above-average Italian spots. Da Adriano looks nondescript from the outside, but we were intrigued after reviewing the website and menu. They advertise themselves as a "focacceria," which caught our attention. We broke the news to our waiter that we were looking for a vegan meal, and he was extremely accommodating. We got the spaghetti pomodoro (delicious), the quinoa lentil salad (our waiter's recommendation - excellent), several veggie sides (all great), and several rounds of olive oil focaccia. We'd love if they added one or two more vegan items (especially dessert), but we would return nevertheless. read more

The chef-owner, Adriano, may stop by your table-You will feel like you're away, on vacation. I waited to write my review until I had my 2nd visit. At My first visit, a few weeks ago, I enjoyed the homemade pasta, Cacio e Pepe ...I had been craving it, and this did satisfy my craving. It was hard to visit a second time and not order one of the homemade pasta dishes, but, I wanted to try "Adriano's salad", because during my first visit, the lady at the nearby table highly recommended it, saying it was really good. And, I concur!! I enjoyed Adriano's salad very much, all yummy ingredients: white meat chicken breast, little tomatoes, so full of flavor, sliced avocado, walnuts, a bit of goat cheese, fresh spinach; fresh raspberries ...all so nice...and next time I will ask for a little bit more dressing. I'm not even a big dressing person, but this was a wonderful Dijon vinaigrette, and I would've liked just a tiny bit more because it was so good on the fresh spinach greens. The fresh raspberries were a delightful surprise, flavorful and perfect. I loved this salad. And, this salad is also available for easy, quick take-out...see photos. I also ordered one of the side orders--the roasted carrots. Mmmm, I loved them, and I look forward to enjoying them again, soon. Simple, flavorful carrots, roasted to perfection, and also making me feel like I am on a nice vacation. I could enjoy these roasted carrots anytime, day, night, snack. I'd love to eat these at the movies, too!! Popcorn? Not today, May I have the roasted carrots please? :). I WISH!! The homemade tiramisu was very good. Credit cards are accepted, including both, Apple Pay, AND Google Pay. Something to keep in mind--GENERALLY SPEAKING, for long-time restaurants and brand new restaurants, these are challenging times, so please be mindful that most, if not all restaurants that accept credit cards are charged a fee every time a cc is used. So, please consider, maybe paying in cash, every once in a while, to help out the hardworking restaurantuers. Thank you. I intend to joyfully work my way through the menu!! LOL. I saw a yummy looking, homemade rigatoni pasta plate that looked so delicious, and the person eating It told me it was. That might be my next meal but I'm not kidding. Outstanding addition to not only the neighborhood but all of NYC! So authentic, quality, understated - just classic Tuscan vibes. My wife and I are both gluten free but we ate the focaccia as well as the pastas since they are made with flour from Italy and not the crap we have here in America. Small and quaint, but not crowded and able to take a table for 2 around 7 pm on a weeknight with no issues. Quite pricey, but this is the UES. Little Hole in the Wall with a Tiny Bathroom What an incredibly disappointing experience at this place that someone recommended and I should've researched more thoroughly. If you're going to charge $25 for prosciutto and melon appetizer, it needs to be announced by the server. And why would this be a special - like it's so hard to get prosciutto and melon? The entrée salads were $18 so it came as a shock to the system to charge so much for a few pieces of ham and melon. But the worst thing was the entrée of grilled tuna that I ordered. It was covered with tons of mostly black sesame seeds that would stick in your teeth for days but it couldn't cover up the fact that the fish tasted really funny and most likely on the verge of being spoiled. I took one partial bite of the dried out tuna and sent it back, opting for that entrée salad with a couple strips of chicken. Asked for it to go but threw it out. Would never go back here again and don't recommend it. Ugh. And the tiny bathroom was highly unpleasant. read more

I love this place and have been several times. Food is always top notch--fresh, intentional, quality ingredients. I was a little disappointed at my last visit ; we (3 ppl) went for an early dinner 5:30 pm and we were told the table would be available till ~ 7 pm....fine and totally understand they need to move tables at this tiny restaurant. However by 6:30, really felt like we were starting to get the eye to move it along, from waiters and owner. That was disappointing and made the last bit of this dinner, where we were celebrating a retirement, a bit uncomfortable. We're spending $250 + for a meal that feels rushed....not a great feeling. Also dislike when the bill comes over on the machine with no indication of the subtotal, etc...this is not the only restaurant to operate this way but it ends up putting pressure on the customer and tipping. read more
