As I'm prone to do with anyone I dine with, I said to my lunch companion, "rate your salad on a scale of one to five." "Five!" she said before taking a bite. (She's been ordering the same thing for years and says it's consistently delicious.) Effy's is 100% meatless with a nice array of choices. Her 'usual' btw is Effy's salad with added salmon. The salad's made up of kale, roasted sweet potato, almonds, avocado, beets and honey balsamic vinegar. Not my thing, but it looked nice. I in turn ordered the smoked fish platter. My photo somehow makes the portions of fish salad look larger than they are. Dollops of white fish, baked salmon, a slice of lox. Came with an everything bagel, cream cheese, capers, a little bit of salad and two eggs. (Rather than over-easy as requested, they were over-hard. Eh.) This is a cozy little cafe, apparently packed on the weekends. A pleasant outdoor area, which is often my preference, but just as well that it was raining. My companion avoids outside pollutants. Late afternoon timing was perfect with the arrival of two talented singers with a recognizable repertoire. The woman sounded like Emmylou Harris. Effy's Cafe is great. A very local and friendly spot with an extensive menu to meet all cravings! Service is good, and the dishes come out fairly quickly. The ambiance is lovely, with decorations that really make the space feel like a true cafe/diner. I ordered the mozzarella grilled cheese with pesto and tomato (kind of like a caprese), and it was delicious. Super buttery and filling. It came with this coleslaw-esque salad that I loved as well. I also got the fried cauliflower, and while it was good, there were a ton of pecans compared to the cauliflower. I can't wait to go back! Visited Effy's Cafe on York Ave yesterday with my mom for a Yom HaShoah (holocaust rememberence) event. I had been wanting my mom to try Effy's food for sometime, and this was the perfect occassion. While everydish I have tried from Effy's has been wonderful, my mom was craving a tuna melt and suggested we split one. When I mentioned Effy's fried pickles, her eyes lit up- and thus our late lunch of a tuna melt and fried pickles was made. The sides for the sandwiches are fries or sweet potato fries. We asked our kind waitress if there might be a salad option- she said yes but warned us it was a small slaw of cabbage and greens- and confirmed if that was okay with us. It was, we had plenty of food. All of the produce was fresh. Effy's was a full house and their staff did a remarkable job of handling dine in and to-go orders without disprupting the talk in any way. I was amazed with such a full house and busy event, our waitstaff were still able to check on our table frequently to ensure everything was to taste, and provide refills on napkins and water I also want to acknowledge and thank Effy's for hosting this program, as there are fewer survivors of the Shoah each day, it is as critical as ever we bear witness. My family and I got lucky and scored a 5-person table at around 1:45 on a Saturday. We sat on the upper level. It was loud with the constant blending sound. However, overall we had a good time. The menu is huge, and it includes something for everyone. I enjoyed my avocado salad, and my girls devoured the chocolate chip waffles. I wish the grilled cheese came with other bread types (though once we inquired, we learned there were other options even if not listed on the menu). We must have walked in right on time on this Sunday morning, because the closer it got to noon, the more crowded the place became. First impression: The place is super cute and cozzy. Found ourselves in the Upper East Side and luckily, Yelp brought us to Effy's for a late breakfast. The goal was a casual diner-esque spot and the find was a casual middle Eastern gem with big portions, good coffee and very tasty bites. I opted for the Middle Eastern Breakfast. It comes with two Eggs (I got mine scrambled), hummus, cabbage salad, beet salad, labneh, feta, Israeli salad and pita bread. My plate was cleaned with not a morsel left. As not a big breakfast person, this is my ideal breakfast. I left full but in no way sluggish or heavy. I loved the sweetness from the beat salad, and the labneh was so tangy and creamy, I almost wish I got a double serving of it and left of the hummus. I tried a bite of the challah French toast as well and it was the perfect sweet bite. What else to love: The space has plenty of tables and a cozy vibe. The coffee and lattes were great. The waitresses were all friendly and kind. They are 100% kosher if that matters to you. A dream. I plan to return or maybe try their other location on the UWS. read more

I recently went for the first time. I love the ambiance and the vanilla iced latte should not be touched, it's great. The only thing is that they use a cleaner (or something that smells like a cleaner) that makes it hard for me to hang out inside. If the cleaner wasn't so strong I would probably be in weekly if not daily. If they switch to a more natural/less bleachy cleaner I will be there on the regular! read more

Food: 3.5/5 The food here is not bad, just okay. The vegetable farro soup, beet salas, and spiced gauc were okay. They had a nice combo if you order 3 items so, we did. The food are prepared promptly and we were content. The vibe is pretty chill. Service: 5/5 Shout out to the servicer here because I appreciate when they are honest. We came close to closing and they made sure to make sure we knew. The kitchen closes before the doors do so, don't be that person. Came to this UES brunch spot on a Saturday around noon after book club as a group of 10 girls. We got really lucky and they were thankfully able to seat us right away! The place was full shortly after. Everything looked yummy when it came to our table. I ordered the Energy Wrap, which was filling and came with delicious home fries! I recommend asking for hot sauce to give the wrap a lil somethin' more! I paired my meal with an ice coffee to top it off. The prices here are pretty affordable for NYC and the staff were fantastic. Effy's was a great Kosher Mediterranean establishment. It's a hidden gem in the upper east side with indoor and outdoor seating. I got the california omelette and it was exceptionally large and tasty. My wife got the challah french toast that she thoroughly enjoyed. My mother-in-law got the green shakshuka, which was a table favorite and my father-in-law got the bagel with smoked salmon that made him smile. The service was good but they only have a couple of servers so be patient. The ambience was intimate as it's a small place but they give you plenty of room in-between tables. Came here on a Sunday as a group of three! Since the weather was nice, they were quite full and we had to wait a bit for a table. I got fish and chips as my entree while my friends got the grilled fish sandwich and egg and toast. I didn't really try the other two entrees but they looked great and my friends love them! The fish of my fish and chips was perfectly fried and it was still moist and flaky. The tartar sauce was so good that I had to ask for more! After we finished our entree, we felt like having some sweet so we also ordered a pancake to share. There was something wrong with their ordering system and it took around 30-45min for the pancakes to come. Because of the long wait, we were given free wine and the restaurant also gave the pancakes for us for free, along with another French toast that another table ordered but had left by the time it was ready. Overall, our experience here was pretty good! Even though we had to wait for a long time because of their system error, we weren't in a hurry anyway and I think they handled the situation very well! This is a terrific locals place that you probably will not see any tourists at. Family who lives in NYC goes here 3 times a week on a regular basis. First, coffee was so good. Just put the whole pot down and give me a straw! There was 4 of us for breakfast so we did not get any of the lunch items, but my family guaranteed that the lunch and dinner items are all just as good. I had the green shakshuka which was just wonderful. Another had the Mediterranean breakfast, a breakfast sandwich, Avocado toast and an omelet. Everyone loved their food. The service was warm and friendly, the decor was playful and fun. Be sure to read all the signs in the place, very amusing! Although it was slamming busy (weekend) the waitstaff was on top of it making sure that everyone had what they needed and keeping the place wiped down and clean. Good value and portion sizes, you won't be hungry. I can understand why it is a staple of my family who lives here. If I lived here, it would be on my regular rotation too. If you are a tourist in the city and find yourself out this way, Effy's is a great place to go to NOT feel like a tourist and just part of a very cool community. They do not serve meat here and although I'm not a vegetarian, I really still enjoy the items on the menu. I've been here twice and it's such a great neighborhood gem for those that live locally. I've been to Effy's Kitchen on Lexington countless times but this was my first time visiting Effy's Cafe. It's owned by the same people but this location is kosher and therefore has a slightly different menu (more fish options and dairy but no meat). There's no chicken schnitzel here (my favorite thing at Effy's Kitchen) but the menu here has lots of options-- omeletes, sandwiches, salads, smoothies, platters, fish entrees. Ordered: Falafel platter- this was very good! The platter has 4 falafel balls, hummus, babaganoush, cabbage salad, Israeli salad, labneh and spicy eggplant. It comes with whole wheat pita too. Chermoula salmon- the portion is a very nice size and the sauce is quite flavorful and maybe a tad bit too salty. I think the sauce had parsley, garlic, cumin and other warm spices. It was served with roasted zucchini and red pepper. I'd say the fish was a very good deal at $19. I'll be back to Effy's Cafe and encourage you to give it a try! read more

One of our favorite neighborhood brunch spots. The decor is very cute with Parisian paintings and an overall set up reminiscent of a true European coffee shop. Located on York Avenue, street traffic isn't heavy and you can easily sit outside without feeling like you're in the heart of Manhattan. You'll find plenty of families here with the little kids due to the nature of the restaurant. My favorite dishes here include the Shakshukha, both red and green types, and the smoked salmon wrap which comes with lettuce, cream cheese, egg, and smoked salmon wrapped in a fine tasting whole wheat wrap. Their iced cappuccino is also great. My only concern with this establishment is that more staff is needed. There's only one waiter who must facilitate everything both inside and outside which can be quite daunting especially on a busy weekend day. Effy's Cafe on the Upper East Side was a place I was excited about visiting. I wanted an Effy's close to home for the dine in experience and for the Avocado Toast. I have been to the Effy's in East Harlem and it looks like I'll be returning to that location. It really isn't that far but they don't open early. As far as this location, I was told it's the same owner. The difference is this location is kosher. For me, I just wasn't as comfortable here. It's a beautiful spacious restaurant. The second young lady that waited on me was really nice and smiling. Up to that point I didn't feel relaxed with the service. I'm glad the Avocado Toast was only $6.00 plus tax. I could toast a piece of multigrain bread myself and slice an avocado on it! No effort in preparing or seasoning. I love the decor the most about the visit. The painted mural on the one wall is very cool. I'm glad I had the opportunity to be waited on for a reasonable price. I think I'm going to return to give them another try. A cute little spot with indoor & outdoor seating. I came on a Wednesday about an hour after opening & there wasn't any line or anything so I was seated immediately. Not sure if they have Wi-Fi but I did see a couple people using their laptops. For New York, this is definitely very reasonably priced! Most breakfast meals (from what I saw) ranged from $12-15, which is standard where I'm from. I got the Challah French Toast which was nice & soft + a iced latte (which doesn't come sweetened, so ask for simple syrup!)
