One of my favorite dessert spots in the Bay Area! They serve well-crafted ice cream in a litany of unique flavors ranging from elevated classics to outlandish seasonals. It's fun to visit occasionally to try out new limited-time flavors while knowing there's a great base rotation if you want to play it safe. The staff at this location is also always friendly and fast. Salt & Straw is located in the sprawl of eateries outside the main body of the Westfield Valley Fair mall, so it is easy to find but a little hard to park for when the mall is busy. There are many restaurants nearby, so it's a solid choice for an after-dinner stop. There is often a line out the door, but the service is very fast, even though they are generous with allowing for samples. The interior is clean and the menu is easy to read. In addition to the ice cream counter, there's a small merch corner and a freezer displaying some options for buying by the pint. There isn't any seating inside, so you can only sit at one of the tables outside. Usually this isn't a problem, but the seating is shared with other eateries as well. If you can walk & eat, it's no issue. Overall, great spot! 100% recommend it to everyone!! I currently really like their Berry-themed limited flavors, but there's never been a bad batch, so I think my praise will hold true indefinitely.
My wife recently saw a show on TV that spoke to the ice cream making when the company first began. I had seen this place awhile back at Valley Fair and decided to stop in. My son got this $15 milkshake (what? No booze?) and I went with the strawberry balsamic and black pepper. I thought the ice cream is pricey, but the scoop was large.
I've tried this location several times, amongst a handful of other locations throughout California as well. I usually like the cinnamon snickerdoodle flavor under the classic flavors. Their limited edition flavors are a hit or miss for me most times. Some have been really good and some have been a little too edgy for my taste. I like that they have a kids cup which is usually perfect for me because I feel like their ice cream is heavier than a lot of other ice cream places and I don't want too big of a portion.
Salt and straw is know for their unique flavor combos. I've tried multiple flavors there but I haven't been a huge fan of any of them. Pro tip: if you are a first time customer you can download their app and make a account for a free double scoop
This place is a very unique place for ice cream. Flavors are so unique and different from all places that I have tried ice cream so far. Tried their salted caramel and also peach one. There were tiny pieces of peach in that icecream. There's sitting arrangement outside the place as inside there's no seating. Also this is right next to cheese cake factory. So park accordingly.
Love all the flavors at Salt n Straw but our favorite is the birthday cake! Perfect for parties! The seasonal carrot cake was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to try new flavors! Service is super friendly.

Strawberry Balsamic! Delicious! I usually get honey lavender but I wanted to try something new! Creamy and a bit tart! Definitely worth sampling if you haven't tried it yet! I got a split scoop, so you can't see the bottom scoop. My bottom scoop was the coffee flavor! Loved that too! Worth trying both!
Salt and straw is a very solid baseline spot for ice cream allowing lots of flavor sampling and rotating flavors in monthly This particular spot has really good vibes, it is open late and is a nice break from hustle of the mall and the vicinity has plenty of outdoor seating Chocolate series in February was quite good they also have a chocolate brownie waffle cone ahhh (but sold out :(( ) Cake batter chocolate fudge was so fun and tasty! nice balance of creamy / sweet with a hint of chocolate Gooey chocolate brownie was not a seasonal flavor but texture was really nice and gooey as described
Love their funky flavors and their fast service. This time I got a "Candyshoppe", which was one of their going away soon flavors. A mix of candy pieces, a little caramel and slight rum taste.
Whenever we're shopping at Valley Fair, we eventually hit that "mall fatigue" and need a sweet pick-me-up. Salt & Straw is always our go-to spot to recharge. On this visit, we tried the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper, and it was absolutely amazing! I never expected balsamic vinegar to pair so perfectly with strawberry. The black pepper adds a surprising little kick at the end that really elevates the whole scoop. The staff here are incredibly friendly and patient, they let us sample a few other flavors before we decided. It's a truly enjoyable experience every time!
I came on New Years Day around 1:30 and there was no line! I sampled so many flavors because I couldn't decide and each time the employee was nice when handing a sample! The little slot to put your used spoons is so cute too. I ended up going with the seasonal peppermint chocolate bark flavor in a kids size in a cup. Perfect amount , I could eat a pint but gotta control myself somehow. I need to go back for the ice cream taco!! They're in the freezer by the cash register and I totally forgot to get one when I was checking out!
This was my second time at Salt & Straw, and I'd definitely come back again! I got the Hazelnut Cookies & Cream (V) since I'm lactose intolerant and always looking for good dairy-free options. It was so good! The chocolate tasted like real chocolate and didn't have that weird aftertaste some dairy-free ice creams have. You know how some vanilla dairy-free ice cream ends up tasting like coconut? This wasn't like that at all--it tasted authentic. They have a great variety of flavors, including both dairy-free and regular dairy options, and they even offer milkshakes, so there's something for everyone. The line was out the door, so I expected a long wait, but we were honestly in and out in about 5 minutes. The staff was quick, friendly, and attentive. Overall, a great experience, especially if you're looking for a dairy-free treat that doesn't taste like you're settling for less. I'd definitely be back! read more

The December 2025 flavors are here, and they're all delicious! Peppermint cocoa - Strong peppermint flavor, so good if you like it. Chewy molasses cookie - Definitely taste the molasses and the caramel adds that gooey texture. Almond brittle with salted ganache - One of my favorites for the crunch and salted, nutty flavor. Pineapple upside down cake - Tastes like a pina colada! Great cookie swap - Their classic holiday special which is so good and gooey! read more

Came here to try the Thanksgiving themed flavors during the month of November! As always, the staff was very generous with the ice cream samples. We ended getting a double of the Parker House Rolls with Salted Buttercream and the Maple Koginut Squash with Pomegranate. Both flavors were delicious and complimented each other well! Parker House Rolls was creamy and slightly salty whereas the Maple Koginut was light and fruity. Definitely will be back in December! read more

LOVE. I have heard so many good things about this ice cream place and knew I had to check it out after my friend had me try one of their holiday flavors (turkey and cranberry) out. Stopped by some time in October and they had really cool monthly flavors for Halloween and fall in general. I opted for the pumpkin bread and my boyfriend got their salted caramel and the monthly flavor that had loads of candy mixed in. Creative, well executed flavors and super creamy consistency at fair prices. Most definitely my go-to spot whenever I am around Valley Fair! read more
I love ice cream and I love homemade waffle cones. I also love the seasonal menus at Salt and Straw. Today, I went in and sample the entire summer berry seasonal menu. All very good! I ended up getting their strawberry sundae in a strawberry waffle cone with strawberry balsamic ice cream and amaretto cherries. The cone was massive and was shared. It was also a great value by Slat and Straw pricing standards. So delicious. They are really top tier when it comes to ice cream. Great service. Casual. Located in Valley Fair. Too sweet! LOL I know it's ice cream but really the flavor I got was a lot for me. it felt like running a marathon trying to finish my cone. I'd opt for a kids scoop next time. the huckleberry cornbread pudding was really yummy the first three bites. if u are weird about textured soggy things in ur ice cream u might not like some of the flavors here. it's kinda what they do. the snickerdoodle I liked better but again tiresome after a few bites. and again soggy cookie so heads up. the strawberry coconut sorbet was really nice and not so sweet as the others. read more
This was my first time here at this particular salt and troll location and I was surprised there wasn't no line wrapped around the door! I've only been to the San Ramon location and there was a crazy line there! Lol I love how they have so many unique, funny flavors And since my yogi friend is vegan, there were four vegan ice creams she could try. She was very excited!! I ended up getting a scoop of the strawberry, coconut water sherbet, which was vegan. And she got two of the peanut butter something or rather, which were also vegan. We both got waffle cones and we were so impressed with the flavor of the ice cream we sat outside, enjoying our ice cream on a nice warm Friday afternoon!! I love this place! I got a cup with two scoops that were each split to get four flavors total. strawberry honey balsamic & black pepper, honey lavender, pear & blue cheese, and arbequina olive oil. Honey lavender is my favorite, the lavender is very noticeable and the honey more subtle. Strawberry honey balsamic definitely has a vinegary flavor to it which I found really interesting and enjoyable. I didn't notice the black pepper as much. I couldn't really taste the olive oil flavor besides noticing that it tasted savory and "oily" -- I'm not sure if I was expecting a more olive flavor to it even though olive oil itself probably doesn't have too much olive flavor in it. Other people have told me olive oil is their favorite though! The pear flavor was really crisp and there were both pear pieces and blue cheese pieces in it that added texture and were subtle but definitely there. The savoryness of the blue cheese really popped at moments against the pear which I really liked. Staff is also really pleasant and helpful whenever you have questions. The place is really clean and there's outdoor seating with shade available, I came on a Tuesday at noon and there was plenty of seating. read more
The staff behind the counters were all so helpful and kind. My indecisive friends and I were able to try all that we wanted to make the right choice. Not only that but there was another worker that came to us and asked us if we wanted a cone which was super nice and she told us her combinations that she liked. Salt & Straw has been a regular pitstop whenever we are at Valley Fair, regardless of the season. They have an excellent staff who are patient and knowledgeable with their flavors. The lines may be long, but staff members are efficient. We enjoy trying all the regular flavors as well as their seasonal ones when we feel adventurous. read more
BOGO scoop today only 12-21-24. Pear & Blue Cheese: They candy Oregon bartletts to bring out their flavor, then fold in cave-aged crumbles of Rogue Creamery's blue cheese (voted best in the world) for a bold thwack. One of my favorite flavors here. Chocolate Gooey Brownie: For anyone who eats warm brownies right out of the pan. They fold fudgy chocolate-y brownie batter into intensely rich chocolate ice cream. We were on a mission to find something sweet. I did not know they opened an Eataly in the mall, but the gelato line was long...and people were rude! Valley Fair has changed so much. Traci took us to a new area and there was Salt & Straw. What a life saver! These little boys had all met up in front for I think a birthday. As we walked to the entrance, I heard one yell let's go and get our ice cream and started running, and when he ran past me... Me: Heeeeeyyyy no cuts! Then I heard a parent tell him to stop. Laughing, I said I was only kidding, but the parents were great and said, "no, go ahead please." The young women inside were very friendly. I didn't need to sample everything like the couple ahead of us. I picked two flavors that sounded delicious and they were! Salt & Straw does an amazing job with flavors, for a chain. It's good to know there are other options! read more
