I typically don't love Humphry Slocombe flavors but decided to drop in because it was the nearest dessert place to where we had lunch. The lady at the counter was very dry. She was kind of rude to the customers in front of me. But as the encounter went along, she seemed fine. She doesn't have the customer service tone but said all the customer service things as she was expected to. Seemed like a person who really is just their for her paycheck. The ice cream shop itself was cute. It was nice and clean. I tried several flavors and almost walked out until I asked for one final sample...Nutella Hazelnut Praline. This was absolutely worth the stop! It was decadent and creamy. So delicious. I opted for a kid's scoop in a cup. Came here on a Saturday night with a friend, after we had dinner at LUNA across the plaza. I've heard a lot about Humphrey Slocombe but never had the chance to try it until now. The store was empty except for us and 1 other party, so we got our ice cream right away. I tried the Malted Milk Chocolate and my friend got the Nutella Hazelnut Brittle. We got them mixed up at first since they looked so similar, but both flavors tasted great lol. I'm not usually a malted chocolate person but it was pretty mild in this ice cream so I loved it. My friend did say the hazelnut brittle chunks in hers started to taste too sweet towards the end though. We were also expecting the ice cream to be icier based on reviews here. Imo the texture was more similar to a cheaper ice cream like Dreyers vs something like Tillamook, for example, but it wasn't an issue for me. I do think it would've been more noticeable with some of the other flavors. My one complaint, if any, is that I wish they had a bigger flavor selection. I would come back if I was dining in this plaza, but don't see myself going out of the way to come here over other ice cream shops. read more

The kids love this place and we'll usually get some ice cream if we're in the Pruneyard. They have really unique flavors and I recommend trying them before you buy it. Their portions are HUGE. Opt for one scoop, trust me, it'll be more than enough. I've never seen this pace without a line, especially in weekends so take that into account but it's nice getting some ice cream and just hanging in the center "Plaza". San Jose, one of the holy grails of SF ice cream is now in your backyard. Or Pruneyard, as it were. Humphry Slocombe is an excellent ice cream shop which I was fortunate enough to try and love several years ago at their original San Francisco shop. My trips to SF are few and far between, so imagine my surprise when I was checking Yelp during my recent trip back to San Jose and saw that there was a Humphry Slocombe now open in Campbell. I was able to find parking around the perimeter of the Pruneyard and took a brief walk to what I recalled as a former ice cream shop. As I suspected, Humphry has replaced the Tin Pot Creamery off the Main Street central area of the Pruneyard. They were also willing to provide samples of their 12 available flavors, so I got to try some before I felt the pressure of more incoming guests behind me. Serengeti Sunset, a jazzed-up blood orange, was a fun start; I didn't realize until later that it's a limited-time flavor to commemorate the Orpheum run of The Lion King. XXXL Chocolate happens to be vegan, and vegan can be better since there's less flavor to interfere with the rich chocolate; serendipitously, such was the case this time. Honey Graham was sweet and rich, and if I'd had more room or cold tolerance, I may have included it in my order. In the end, I defaulted to two familiar flavors for my Double ($8.50) cup. I neglected to specify which flavor should go on top, so I dove into Vietnamese Coffee first. It was as rich and milky as you would expect to taste in a sweeter take on Vietnamese coffee. The texture was creamy, and unlike some reviewers experienced, it didn't have any odd salty aftertaste. I did overhear the manager saying that the ice cream is produced off-site in either SF or Berkeley, so perhaps they had an off-batch? I found nothing wrong though. Then it was time for their flagship flavor, the Secret Breakfast. I would give 5 stars for access to Secret Breakfast alone, and they delivered. The bourbon and caramel are a fantastic combo and thoroughly satisfied my taste buds despite how cold the weather was. The corn flakes are fun too, although they kinda felt more chewy than crunchy. Pricing is just fine compared to other high-end ice cream shops. And by that, I mean Salt & Straw. But please note that they don't offer Secret Breakfast over there. Humphry Slocombe is an awesome destination for ice cream. I'm so glad that the drive is much shorter for me now when I'm back home in San Jose with family. read more

The second time I went, I ordered their Tahitian Vanilla. Such a unique take on such a classic ice cream flavor. Absolutely amazing, you have to try it for yourself. Humphry Slocombe offers so many amazing flavors, and when it offers classics, it tweaks them to be ever so perfect. I wish they had more unique flavors, but it seems they have the typical chocolate, vanilla, rose, and so forth. I enjoyed how the servers provided a welcoming experience to try out the ice cream. Secret Breakfast has been my jam for more years than I want to admit... lucky for me, this Pruneyard location is convenient for my required ice cream pilgrimages (we used to go often to the location on Harrison). For HS, this spot is very quiet and unassuming with little to no waiting. The chill atmosphere has friendly chill employees, which is nice. During one of our visits, I was getting a pint of Secret Breakfast for home. While I paid, my daughter and I were talking about running more errands and the HS cool person gave us a little ice pack! Amazingly good ice cream. I like my ice cream a little on the soft side, because it's easier to eat. This place nails that. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee, and it tasted so good. We've gone back there two Saturdays in a row for it. I have a feeling we are going to become regulars. I can totally taste that this is coconut based. I am a huge coconut fan so I enjoyed it! It tastes like coconut ice cream with crushed Oreos. I got it on a sugar cone. It's not as creamy as normal ice cream but still quite creamy and satisfies the craving! My scoop actually fell right when I got it and the lady was so sweet about it! I felt so bad! Humphry Slocombe was very good! Some of my favorite ice cream I've had in the area. I got the Secret Breakfast and really enjoyed it! I was left genuinely curious what it was made of because it was very unique and I've never had anything like it before! A delicious combination of sweet and salty, as well as a rich and creamy texture. The staff was also very friendly and kindly let us sample a few different options each. The only thing was the price--it was $7 for a small which is pretty steep for the amount you get unfortunately. I definitely wish this was more reasonable, but I still really liked it overall. The price is the only thing keeping it from being a 5 star review. I also had never been to the Pruneyard area in general, and it's a really cute area with tons to do in terms of eating, shopping, etc! Efficient service although late at night, it might be a few minutes before anyone comes out from the back to help you. Docking a star because prices are pretty steep. Also, in their attempt to prevent the ice cream from being too sweet, I think they compensate by adding more salt. For some of the flavors (like the cornflake crunch), the salt seems to hit more strongly than the sugar, which I'm not the biggest fan of for dessert. Many of the flavors being not overly sweet, and almost savory. While I find some of the flavors to be a little too out there, I also have some favorites, which include the peanut butter fudge ripple and secret breakfast. Best way to get the secret breakfast is as a cereal killer sundae, which has the secret breakfast ice cream, a candied cornflake topping, and a bourbon caramel sauce. One of their seasonal flavors include a pumpkin, which paired really well with the cornflake topping and dark chocolate sauce. One fine January day, my husband & I were craving Tin Pot-- so off to Prune Yard we went! Much to our horror, TIN POT CLOSED!!!! I was overcome with sadness... UNTIL I found out that a Humphry Slocombe was taking its place!!!! :) My tears were replaced with excitement for what was coming. First time and the flavors were a little different. I wasn't too crazy for the coffee flavor I got, can't remember the name of it. Service was great, super friendly and very helpful with picking out a flavor. Lots of different options besides getting straight forward ice cream on a cone or cup. Did like that a lot. As I get out of middle age, I find my diet being restricted. But now I find myself on a dairy-free diet, as my body is no longer able to digest the milk protein - casein. As such, I find that eating food made with milk - including ice cream - makes me feel lethargic and run-down. As such, I had to give up cream. Getting sick of sorbets and pasty vegan offerings, I was pleasantly surprised at the offerings at Humphrey Slocombe -- they are both vibrant and flavorful! Recently opened in the Pruneyard (taking the place of Tin Pot), I dropped by today to see what they had to offer us vegans. I had a split of a scoop of Cherry Elderflower and Chocolate XXXL. Heaven on earth, they were not only delicious, but sans any grittiness, pastiness and blandness normally associated with vegan ice cream. It is one of these rare moments belonging to the "I Can't Believe It's Not . . . Club" If all vegan ice cream can be as delicious as Henry Slocombe, non-vegans will be clamoring to get some! read more

I originally tried this place cause it was one of the Yelp elite events the staff are always very friendly when I go here and one of the owners Sean was very kind and welcoming when I got to meet him at this location. Delicious!!!!! Last night 5 of us ordered 5 cups of ice cream. It was super delicious! We wished we could have ordered 50 cups, 10 each it was so good! Doesn't matter what flavor you get, expect creaminess, flavor and freshness! They must use extra extra heavy cream when they make their ice cream. It is so creamy and delicious! The flavors pop out at you as well! Different layers of flavors ranging from mild up to bold. It is so wonderful! We had xxxl chocolate, vanilla, milk chocolate and a berry flavor.
