Odd taste to both entrees. We got the chicken and broccoli and the Moo Shoo pork. Both meals did not have enough salt or flavor. Salt enhances flavor, right? There was a very odd taste to both meals, and it was something I couldn't determine what it was. It was just "off." This restaurant coats their meat with corn starch, which is common, but we felt it was overly coated. The chicken and broccoli had large slices of carrots, which was fine. It didn't have much sauce to it, so that was disappointing. Another thing was these odd mushrooms in the dish! Or at least I think they were mushrooms. Floppy, reddish brown things. LOL. As for the Moo Shoo Pork, the Hoisen sauce saved it. It's still not our favorite. Sorry, Hunan, we will not be coming back. read more

Hard time finding "excellent" Chinese food. This was good, solid but nothing that screams come back here. Ordered (2) spring rolls not realizing there were (3) spring rolls in each order. This is quite a bargain. They were good, but needed to be crispier wrapper. Had that been the case they would have been excellent. Ordered the broccoli with garlic sauce and an order of beef with snow peas. The broccoli was not what I expected. I actually expected just broccoli with a nice garlic sauce but this had mushrooms, peppers and carrots. This could be a hunan thing so no points knocked off for that but I would ask for broccoli only on the next to go order. The beef was for my husband and he seemed to like it. Overall, it's decent. As others have noted, the interior does not encourage dining in but it is likely that this is a business that caters to take out. read more

Speaking of just food - delicious. The general Tso tofu was very different. It was very soft on the inside, although still lightly fried on the outside. They were all huge pieces pieces and all really delicious. Got the vegi lo mein which was great, nothing much to say on it. Also got the spring rolls which were very good. They had a different spice that I normally don't taste in spring rolls maybe turmeric? It was good! Inside is dingy with not the most responsive staff, but what ever. The food is horrible...the fried rice was just rice in saffron, the shrimp and now peas was disc gusting. the vegetables (snow peas, carrots and mushrooms) weren't cooked completely. Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone! read more

We ha ve eaten their food twice. It is fair. FAR TOO MUCH sauce on food. Egg rolls are good, but 2nd time ordering was dripping grease. I realize that it's fried, but yuck! For Americanized Chinese food, this is a solid choice. Their dumplings are good, the lo mein is some of the best around, and the scallion pancakes can be a meal in and of themselves. The folks there are very friendly, and the prices are extremely reasonable. read more

They let you pick out all of your condiments, hence you're not stuck with one measly duck sauce thrown in a bag. The food is mediocre at best. The egg rolls were large and properly seasoned. Unfortunately the wonton soup was lacking in both flavour and filling in the wontons. There was a peas size amount of filling in a very thick dumpling. The hot and sour soup lost is thickness in about an hour, not sure what causes that but it did have lots of flavour The lo mein noodles where very chewy, it seemed that the dough was overworked and to much gluten was released. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love eating quality Chinese food, and how many different restaurants (and take-out joints) I've ordered food from, between Boston and Seattle, San Diego and Miami, and back to NJ again. Anyhow, last night, I ordered the boneless sparerib combo, with roast pork fried rice, an eggroll, and wonton soup, with a request to cook the boneless spareribs, extra-well done. Let me tell you... This was not pork. It did not have the taste, flavor or consistency of pork. And I've been sick all morning with a stomach ache. I knew it tasted funny, funky, and a bit off, but I was very hungry, and figured, heck... This is Basking Ridge, NJ... how bad can it be? LOL! I figured wrong. Dirty, dingy, nasty, not even worthy or deserving of 1-star. Will never return. Bernards Township should shut them down, and lock them up! I still believe this area just lacks good Chinese food places, but this place is probably one of the better ones. It's conveniently located to where I live, so that's a plus. I also like that it is probably the cleanest Chinese food restaurant that I have ever been to. I've only ever done take-out but isn't that what everyone does? No matter what you order, it only takes about 10-15 minutes for your food to be made. Hunan has all the standard Chinese food menu items. y said it would take 40 minutes. 50 minutes passes by and they did not call. I called and they said the delivery driver is on his way. I go to my hotel lobby, and another 15 minutes passes by so I called back. They tell me it's going to be another 10 minutes and they'll call the driver. I continue to wait in the lobby and the 10 minutes passes by and still no phone call or food. I call once again and they only offer to call the driver (which they were already supposed to do) and I asked for 1/2 off as it's been an extremely long time and they didn't even have the courtesy to call me and they said no we can only give 20%. I was extremely upset and said this crazy, it would have been fine if you wouldn't have kept telling me it'll be there soon. They then offered 30% off and then hang up on me. FINALLY the food arrives and the driver does not even apologize and only gives me 30% off my bill ($5). I take it to my room and the food is room temp with mushy rice, the "spicy" general tso's chicken is sweet and not crispy, and my bottle of water is warm. Picked up some beef and broccoli along with fried rice, assuming those were "safe" dishes to try for our first time out. The beef was of extremely poor quality (worse than the average Chinese take-out establishment) and the sauce was gooey and just plain gross.
