I just want to start by saying the food is delicious. I ordered MooSoo chicken, one of my favorite dishes. My husband ordered the seafood delight, which he loves. When we sat down,the waiter came over never said anything to us, drops off the fried noodles, no duck sauce. Doesn't even say hello or welcome or can I get you something to drink, absolutely nothing. Then we ask for a wine bucket, the waiter drops it off with no glasses. So we have beer and wine with no glasses? We flag him down again and have to ask for glasses, then he brings over 2 wine glasses. My husband has a beer out ready to drink, you think the waiter would get him a beer glass. That never happened. We have had this waiter before and he is extremely rude. Unfortunately we would have kept coming back if this waiter wasnt so so rude. Not sure what his connection is to this resturant, but i have been in the hospitality business for over 30 years and this behavior would never fly with me. He never comes back to our table. Im watching al l the other tables who are waiting for him to come. There was a table next to us with an elderly couple, the husband asked for the check. The waiter never comes back. I flagged another worker over to take care of us and them. The service is horrible!!!! I understand they close early, but have some respect for the customers who are eating!!! We pay your bills!!! RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!! I complained to someone who called the waiter and proceeded to yell at him while we were standing right there. Terrible management and customer service. The food was awful. The service was meh. This was some of the worst suburban Chinese food I've ever had. Way too sticky & sweet. I think at this point suburbia is ready for much better Chinese food. We had three people there for lunch before a visit at MSK. My husband had a pork & mai fun noodle dish that was in some disgustingly generic brown sauce (his words), my daughter had sesame chicken and I had tofu with mixed vegetables. Good flavor but overly oil. Delivery drivers have bad attitude about tips. One man actually complained about a tip to my 13 year old child. We tip for the drive-which has nothing to do with the amount of the bill-same drive. In the restaurant servers bring take multiple trips to the table. I will not pay 15-20% to a driver. Not only did the food take an hour to arrive but when my 11 year old answered the door I heard the delivery man yelling at him that the tip we gave wasn't good enough and that the drive was far and that we better tip more next time. It is disgusting that someone would even make those remarks but to make them to an 11 year old is even worse. The food was not good either. I usually avoid American Chinese lunch, because I get picky, but a coworker raved about their Singaporean Chile Chicken. When we walked in for lunch, the whole place was smoked up worse than a stuffy Korean BBQ, and the heater was broken (on a cold winter day). It only took us a few minutes to walk out, but the smell stayed in my hair for the rest of the day. We ordered french onion soup at the neighboring restaurant to stay warm, but the soup itself was the almost the same price as Ling Ling's lunch special. So... we call to order takeout =) and brought our lunch back to the office. Sidenote - their takeout kit is very adorably packaged. $8.99 gets you solid portion of soup, rice & protein. You can choose brown, white and fried (talking about rice here) and there's alot of menu variety, even for vegetarians. I had the shrimp in lobster sauce, which is nice and light, but only about 5 shrimp in it. Would not mind ordering again. read more

Perfectly acceptable, americanized Chinese food served in a quiet strip-mall restaurant with efficient waiters. At lunch the specials are $8-11 which includes soup OR soda, rice (white or brown) and a main course. Always served with hot tea, ice water, crispy noodles and duck sauce. When we visited the counter people greeted us and the kitchen was very fast, our food came long before we finished the little bowl of crispy noodles! The lunch menu offered favorites like chicken in brown sauce, tofu with mixed veg, and scallops in hot pepper sauce on green beans; nothing memorable or particularly authentic like bone-in rabbit or tripe. The spicy pepper sauce actually had a bit of heat to it, definitely not mild. Our lunch was just fine, very reasonably priced at about $11 each including tax and tip. Parking in the Riverwalk strip mall can be difficult. Once you survive that, you'll see that the Ling Ling interior is quiet, it has only booths, and the tables have white table clothes, topped with glass, and that is in turn topped with a large sheet of white paper. Every piece of china has the restaurant name on it, even the tea cups. Back in 2004 this place was rated one of the best in NJ for Chinese food by NJ Monthly magazine. Well, maybe standards have evolved, or maybe the restaurant changed. Today three stars is about right: the service was solid, the food was reasonably tasty and it was a quiet place to eat. I don't understand the serious hate in some other reviews. This isn't a dive, the people were not mean to us, and the lunch prices were not high at all. I am never impressed when I eat in the restaurant or lunch take outs. It's your typical Chinese take out place. The only reason they do a decent business is because there is such a lack of lunch restaurants in this area and office complex near by. I typically take out from this place during lunch hours. On my last visit, Tom yum soup was just ok it seemed watered down, our lunch special(Pad Thai) was very average and had no flavor. The dumpling appetizer was edible but nothing special. Over all food tasted bland in my opinion. From my take out this week order was ready promptly. I asked for hot sauce and soy sauce for noodles and cashier told me he can give me one for free but the other one would cost 50 cents for each packet. I've never experienced that before and felt they just wanted to charge for more anything you asked for. In my opinion this restaurant overcharges for the quality and quantity of the food received. The area is a blackhole for takeout. Compared to other offerings in Bernards/Bernardsville it's top tier, but in the grand scheme of Chinese/asian food it's just average. The menu is standard Chinese/American fare; I find it sweeter and less seasoned than average. Their lack of pork centric dishes is surprising, but I think they do a great job of catering to the market that they're in - more shrimp and seafood items are on the menu instead. Nothing marked "hot and spicy" on the menu has been particularly taste bud singing. If you want something more interesting and flavorful check out the weekly specials; they're usually more savory. Stand out items so far have been the salt and pepper pork, wuxi pork ribs, and everything I've ordered off of the specials menu (which rotates weekly or I'd be more specific). I don't like their noodle dishes - way too mushy and not enough vegetables or meat. For take out orders I haven't had them make any serious mistakes. Dine in service is average to above average for Asian restaurants. Ling Ling beats their competition in the area hands down in terms of service and quality, but high prices and limited pork offerings hold them to 3 stars for me. read more

We came here as a family of 4 with 2 boys and grandparents. It was the grandparents favorite Chinese place to eat in, but my husband and I weren't too impressed. I had the salt and pepper pork dish and can't recall want my husband ordered, but remembered he said it was just ok. Our son usually orders vegetable lo mein or lo mein with shrimp and always finished it at our other Chinese place. He didn't there. Said the noodles tasted funny. We ordered $100 worth of food here and it was such a waste of money. Worst fried dumplings I've ever had followed by worst egg roll I've ever had. I held the egg roll over my plate and squeezed out over a tablespoon- yes a tablespoon- of oil. The shell was so soaked with oil it was transparent. Sesame chicken was hard as rocks. Cold sesame noodles was tasteless. Beef with broccoli was passable. Four entrees and we got one small bag of crispy noodles. Chicken with green beans was best dish but it wasn't great. We were so looking forward to our dinner and we were so disappointed. By the way, we ordered our food online at 5:26, got to the restaurant at 5:45 and didn't get our food until 6:20. Don't understand the bad reviews. The food is standard "American" chinese, wont knock your socks off, but definitely a rewarding meal. Way better than Hunan at lyons Mall. Everything is pretty good. Ordered from here a few weeks ago it was great. Today I got raw dumplings- the dough not even cooked. ONE was cooked correctly. Didn't notice it was raw until I took a bite. I called to let them know, they said they would refund us next time. When I said I wanted them today he didn't give me an answer. I also asked if the pork was cooked first he said yes but the texture is clearly less cooked than the cooked steamed dumpling. If I could give 0 stars I would. This was hands down the worst Chinese food I have had in my life. First of all, it's extremely overpriced. We paid almost $50 for steamed chicken w/ vegetables, shrimp pad Thai, and plain fried rice - that's it. The fried rice was $9 and was literally just rice - no vegetables, no egg, nothing but $9 of rice. The chicken was so chewy I actually couldn't eat it and gave it to my dog. There was more fried tofu (this was our best guess at what it was) than shrimp in the pad Thai and could only eat half. So we paid $50 for a 40 minute delivery of cold rice, some vegetables, and a few shrimp. Will never eat here again. read more
