We were craving some Chinese food last night so I decided to try out this place. We were pleasantly surprised on how good the food was. There's been mixed reviews so I was a bit uneasy when choosing what I wanted to eat. We decided on Schezuwan Chicken and Mongolia Beef. I have to admit it was the best Mongolia beef I have ever had in Austin. My husband has been looking for a good Schezuwan Chicken place, think he has found it here at Hunan Chef. We have tried Amy's was not impressed with their food. The only thing I liked at Amy's was their Calamari. I wished Hunan Chef had Calamari. :( that would make it the perfect chinese food place in Cedar Park. Can't wait to try out some of their other dishes. read more

I've been eating at Hunan Chef for about 8 years and they have consistently stayed my favorite chinese restaurant in Cedar Park. Good prices, always great food, and amazing customer service. They've been calling me by name for years. I couldn't recommend this place more. The Happy Family, Egg Rolls, and Crab Rangoon are my favorite. The food was so disappointing, especially for the price. We had the Happy Family and the Moo Goo Gai Pan, both with fried rice, as carryout on Friday evening. Our order was ready quickly, but the food was more appropriate for a fast food drive-thru $5 meal: filling and edible, but that's it. We won't be back. read more

Love, love, love this place. Great people, great service and excellent food. My family orders food to go about every two weeks or more, and has for more than a year. We go eat in the restaurant only about once a month or less. There food is consistently hot and good and we don't live very close. The delivery person is polite and usually super nice and makes me comfortable to invite him in while I sign the receipt. We have never had bad service or bad food, not even once. They have NEVER forgotten something on our order. Unheard of in food delivery! I can't recommend them more. My kids LOVE their food and literally jump up and down when I tell them we're ordering Chinese food. read more

Worst experience trying to order delivery. Called over an hour before they closed. Was put on hold several times. She tried to tell me my address was too far before I gave her my address. The food was truly awful. I now wish I had taken a picture of it. The so called "friend rice" was boiled rice with some food coloring. The "Lemon Chicken" was basically the sweet and sour chicken with lemon sauce. It seemed like they keep the food warmed up for a long time and bring it out when they have customers. I'm so glad I found this place. I've been disappointed in the two previous Chinese places I found so far, north and west of Austin. I had asked my reliable friend Tobi if she knew of any place I could find Curry Shrimp or Prawns. I could see her nose turning up in her written response, " I have never eaten curry, so I have no idea." I like this dish to be rich and thick with curry sauce, plenty of med shrimp, not over cooked and a few veggies, (onions, snow peas, carrots). Driving south on 183, from 1431, next to Popeye's, I found this hole in the strip mall restaurant. Just the little typical, family owned, probably couldn't make it without the local lunch crowd, jewel. I ordered my special dish, shrimp and snow peas only, and it was almost perfect. They have the typical fare of appetizers, which included chicken lettuce wraps. I want to try them sometime. Full array of soups and a enormous menu selection. If you like Chinese, and live up this way, I invite you to try it, you will find something you like there. read more

Terrible customer service. I just had a horrible experience with the lady on the front desk. I have been going to this restaurant for 5 years and have ordered the same 3 things. I went to pick it up and came back home and my order was messed up. They gave me broccoli chicken instead of my usual sesame chicken. So I called back and said there was a mistake on my order. Right away she snapped and told me i was lying and she swore to god I ordered broccoli chicken. I tried to explain her that I have never order that, that we allways order the same items for the past 5 years. She rudly refused to correct the order and said if we wanted the sesame Chicken we had to pay for it. I will never go back. I have ignored their delivery mistakes by coming 45min late with cold food. And have forgiven the fact that their restaurant is allways dirty. But this is it. I am not going back ever again. They are rude, dirty, and terrible delivery service. They only have 3 good dishes in their whole menu, everything else is gross. They disappointed a 7 month old pregnant woman with Chinese cravings. Avoid this place at all cost!!! read more

Think twice about patronizing this restaurant. Their prices keep going up and up for just "ok" Chinese food. Tonight I called* in an order of Combo Mooshu. When I went in to pick it up I waited at the counter for several minutes because no host or serving staff seemed to be in the dining room-NOT the first time this has been my experience. It cost me over $17.00!! For one order-no egg roll, no soup, just Mooshu. For that price it should have been made of prime rib and lobster. Took my food home and it was, as I said just "ok,"-rather dry and came with no accompanying plum sauce. *All this was after it took me 3 times to call in the order. The first two times the phone rang more than 20 times and no one answered. Finally got someone on the 3rd try. I have come to this restaurant many times since moving to this area b/c there aren't that many Chinese restaurants in CP-but I won't be back. Enough is enough. I'll be taking my business back to my old favorite Chinese restaurant in North Austin. It is worth the drive. Hunan Chef isn't. read more

I ordered delivery from Hunan Chef in Cedar Park and after taking an hour to deliver my food, the police showed up at my door saying they had called because my 4 month old baby had colic and was crying! The police appologized and said that there must have been a misunderstanding as he did not see a problem. I will NEVER order from them again! read more

OK here is my two cents worth on the above place. Yes, they are close by and they do have a wide menu selection. Also I gave them 4 stars because they are very consistent and that is what I like about a restaurant. No, they are not my number one pick but I frequent due to the location and the prices aren't bad either. Now....the bad part, or kind of. My wife and I don't call it the Hunan Chef as years ago I gave them a "nickname." Oh no, I shouldn't....oh yeah, I have to...we call it "The Thumb-rice Place." I kind of wish I had never 'watched' but nearly every time the server brought our plates her thumb was BURIED in the rice. Oh well, I have never gotten sick from it so I guess she keeps her thumbs clean!! And, yes, I do realize alot of "stuff" goes on (I have watched both installments of Waiting, and worked fast food as a teenager) but what the heck--I did aive them four stars, didn't I?? read more

Food is REALLY good. But the lady owner is super rude. Never gives any utensils or condiments when picking up to go or having it delivered, no matter how many times you ask. When picking up kids meals that include a can of soda, you have to ask for them, then she acts rude about giving them to you. When you have to ask "don't these come with sodas?" The answer should not be a rude "do you want them?" Of course we do, we paid for them! I have been going there for a decade and she was always rude and unprofessional and is only getting worse. Even the people at EAT24, the ordering / delivery service have a hard time dealing with her when they have to call about botched orders. I've actually had them deliver food and did not include the entree, then try somehow to blame me for it. Its a shame because the food is great when you actually get it and when you don't have to deal with someone who has NO business in a customer service position whatsoever. read more

The place attracts an average lunch crowd. Buffet with lots of choices and the soup was hot (heat). 2 of us ate the buffet for $17.00. The food was just ok nothing special. Best Chinese food in town bar none. Also best egg rolls anywhere. My favorite dish is the king pow chicken. I do have them remove the water chestnuts but beyond that it's perfect. read more

Fabulous place, I wouldn't recommend delivery because they are very busy and always low on drivers but calling in and picking up only takes about 20 minutes and food is always great read more

Ordered mushi duck, my son got a shrimp dish. The duck was fried and so chewy is was uneatable. The shrimp was prepared in some sauce that resembled a snail track and was completely tasteless. Really a big disappointment. It was so bad I am writing my first review ever. We did get delivery and it was the only bright spot, really fast. read more

Recently moved to the area and we were searching for a go to place for Chinese food. Our first stop was a highly rated place - it was meh. Hunan Chef was our second try - and we've found our place. The food is full of flavor but what will keep us coming back is the staff. The family has owned this place for 15 years and it shows. They greeted customers by name, asking about their family and kids. The whole experience felt like you were having dinner at your friend's house. We eat Chinese food often - so glad we found this place. read more

The food is always great. My favorite meals: Kung Pao Shrimp and Chef's Special Beef (Orange Beef). They are generous with the shrimp, and the orange beef is the best I've found in Central Texas. The Hot and Sour Soup is great. the Kung Pao sauce is a great dipping sauce for the egg rolls. read more

This restaurant has been here since 86. The food is on par for your local mom and pop Chinese joint. The food is good ie or they would not have been in business for as many yrs as they have. Kung Pao is very good as is the hot and sour soup. Fried rice is very good as well. read more

DO NOT EVEN TRY IT!!! The food is not the best which you can sometimes overlook; however the customer service is non existent. The owner is rude and her idea of customer service is expecting you to pay for things you are not receiving. I placed an order for items including sweet and sour pork, which arrived without any sauce, i called and they said we forgot and the driver is coming back w/ the sauce (apparently it comes separate from the main dish at this place). I was waiting about 45 minutes and no sauce, we made due by eating left overs and half of our chinese food. So i called the restaurant and requested my $$ back for the sweet and sour pork - so the owner gets upset and starts telling me"enjoy your dinner the driver is coming back now" i tried to explain that we already ate dinner minus my sweet and sour pork and she gets upset w/ me saying I shouldnt waste her time by having the guy come back... I politely repeated my request for my money back and said i would not bother her with my business anymore, and she says "whatever- i try to work it out for you but you dont want to wait" and then hangs up. I placed my order at 4:34, at this point it is 6:18 and i am supposed to wait?? TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - AND THIS IS NOT THE FIRST BAD EXPERIENCE THERE... BUT CERTAINLY THE LAST.
