Fresh off a disappointing visit to House of Three Gorges, my wife and I made it a mission to find the best darn Chinese restaurant in Austin. We succeeded... kind of. China's just so darn big and diverse that no one restaurant can lay claim to that title! For Sichuan cuisine, THIS is it. Wontons in chili oil was my favorite! Authentic Sichuan wontons are really hard to find, and when paired with Sichuan chili oil, it's an absolutely delight for the tastebuds. The mapo tofu w pork was utterly authentic, provided you order it as spicy as it's supposed to be. Real Sichuan chili peppers almost numb the mouth and you won't get any of that real stuff in your order if you don't order it authentically spicy. Insist on it! The spicy crispy chicken was absolutely delicious over rice, and paired nicely with sichuan green beans. Yes, everything is spicy, as it should be! When the nice proprietor of this restaurant gave our order an approving nod, we know we did right. Get you some! read more

Sichuan Garden in Round Rock nearly shut down during pandemic. When they did come back they were takeout only for the longest time. This 16 year old restaurant ran by three aunties and uncles only recently reopened their dine in, and finally we returned last night. It's good to have them as an option for the North East of 35 option. I've been a handful of times now and learned that I prefer their stir fry dishes more than their Sichuan. In auntie fashion, she listened to what we were craving and recommended even a dish that was not on the menu. She also was curious if we spoke our native languages (we do) as she could recommend in Mandarin or Cantonese. We got Fried Beef Stir Fry, Double Cooked Pork with Leeks and A Choy. I tend to stay towards their stir fries as since they're older, they can't really craft their dumplings and pan fried baos fresh. Food was very authentic well prepared and tasty. I got take out and portions were very generous. I ordered Spicy Sichuan dumplings and Combination Egg Fu Yung. Both were enough for 4 people. The dumplings had plenty of filling and a spicy oil. Really good! The Egg Fu Yung had a great sauce, which is the key to this dish. The atmosphere says stay awhile, we're not rushing you! The owner, waitstaff and helpers will suggest items that are really good! But I mean, you get what you see on the menu and more. This used to be her favorite Chinese food, takeout restaurant. However, yesterday was a huge disappointment, the recipes seem to have been changed and they are now bland and comparable to any other Chinese food you could get, even at the mall. For the price they charge, definitely we will not be going back to this place, which is too bad because we had been customers for over 15 years. I requested black fungus with my vegetable bowl and I got none, it was a extremely simple array of regular vegetables, no bamboo shoots , no water chestnuts , in a sauce that was probably cornstarch salt in a drop of soy sauce or MSG. The garlic sauce eggplant was not flavorful like it used to be. The udon noodles were the most flavorful dish of the order, but they were that, noodles with a few pieces of fried, tasteless tofu. It also feels like they are using the lowest possible quality of oil which made one of my children feel sick after the meal. read more

We have been eating here for years and years. The food is consistently good. The portions are consistently good. The service and staff is usually fine and their prices used to be great. I guess inflation has finally hit Sichuan Garden. Everything on the menu is $3-4 more than the last time we ate there. The double sautéed fish is what I had and it was great as usual. I used to order from here when I worked closer to it. I finally came back after a few years (thanks, COVID). The food has always tastes full of love and homemade. Unlike pre-covid, though, now there is no indoor dining, no delivery, and pick up for takeout only. It was sad to see a place that used to be busy, now empty. (Unless something changed in the last month or so). We ordered soup, kung pao, and beef and veggies. It was good, but definitely not as spicy as I remember it. I ordered my food for pick up, and I arrived 10 minutes early because I thought for sure traffic was going to be worse than it was. When I got there, obviously my food wasn't ready because I was early AF, and maybe it's because it was during a slow time, but the nice lady working that day apologized profusely as though it was somehow their fault that the food wasn't ready 10 minutes early and offered me a can of soda while I waited in my car. It was at that moment I decided that I would die for this place. Sichuan Garden's portions are no joke. My fiancé and I are always in fatkid mode, but after polishing off the dumplings and soup, we were barely able to eat even half of our entrees. The food was very good. People from New York or Houston will likely have something to say, but this is really good Chinese food as far as Round Rock is concerned. The order of steam dumplings was huge. There was more than a dozen of them, and honestly I could have eaten just this and been full. I liked the mapo tofu, extraneous peas and all. I was happy to see egg foo young on the menu, because it seems like it's fallen out of fashion in most Chinese restaurants these days. The portion was absurdly large. I've literally made an all you can eat sushi chef shout "I want to go home!" after eating so much, and yet I would have struggled to finish this by myself, even if it was the only thing I ordered. I am surprised that I have not left a review here. I used to come often for take out and this was my second time dining in here. Service: we were greeted and seated immediately in a booth. They came right away to take our drink order. They were helpful in clarifying some menu items. Food: they have a bunch of items to choose from. I went with the house crispy spicy chicken. Very tasty. I asked them to make it more spicier. It made it a tiny bit spicier,but it's ok since it's hard to find places that can deliver the amount of spice I like. Still had a good taste. The hot and sour soup was tasty. Overall, the food was good. I had no complaints on my visit. Their prices are a bit higher compared to other Chinese food establishments. Conveniently located on I-35 in Round Rock next to Sprouts. I love coming to this spot once in a while. They have good selection of Chinese food. This time I ordered Kung Pao Chicken which comes with rice. First they served us fried wonton strips as a welcome snack/appetizers. I love them as it reminds me of back home when we'll eat them as snacks. My Kung Pao Chicken had carrots, onions, and celery with peanuts. It was delicious. The service is good here. Hands down, the best most authentic sichuan experience you will ever have. This isn't your junk take out. This is close to fine dining. The Peking Duck is the best duck dish I've ever eaten. The Pork Intestine With Pork Blood Cake is my new favorite intestine dish. And you cannot pass up the Dan Dan Noodles or the Cold Bamboo Shoots in Chili Oil. If you are looking for Combination Fried Rice or Sweet and Sour Chicken, go elsewhere. The ultra-friendly staff and the casual, relaxed atmosphere is perfect. I'm going to go on my "what to order at a Sichuan restaurant" rant again. People, look. You can't go into a restaurant with "Sichuan" in the name and order the bland, Americanized Chinese food you'd get at Panda Express. No General Tso's, no orange chicken, no pineapple fried rice, no chow mein, no eggrolls. Well, I mean you *can* order it, but don't be surprised if it ends up lackluster because - duh - that's not what these folks specialize in. If you go to a Sichuan restaurant, order Sichuan food. Don't know what that is? You could do your own research, or you could order some of my recommendations: - Shredded pork with garlic sauce - Fish fillet and bean curd in picked chili sauce - Kung pao chicken - Mapotofu (my absolute favourite) And quit with your complaints about the food being oily. Repeat after me: Sichuan food is supposed to be oily. As in, that's a staple of how they cook their food. It will not give you a heart attack, I promise. If you can't eat spicy, you might need to consider another restaurant, because the best dishes are the ones with 2-3 little chilis next to their name. If the waiter asks you to rate out of 5 how spicy you want your dish, you want at least a 3 and preferably a 4. (5 is not for the faint of heart). If it is so spicy your mouth starts tingling, congratulations - you are experiencing something called "ma la", which is also a staple of Sichuan food. The owners of the restaurant are the sweetest couple and have always provided me with great service. Occasionally the younger waiters and servers have messed up my order (e.g. not giving me a portion of rice, giving me meat when I asked for no meat, etc) but it is nothing grievous and they are very willing to fix the issue. 5 stars for this fine establishment - and the only one in the Round Rock area to serve good Sichuan food. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had a horrible experience and sadly it was before trying the food. I ordered through doordash and got a confirmation from the restaurant right away saying my order was confirmed. After 30 mins I check the status and it says a dasher is waiting for my order. I checked again 30 mins later and now it says a different dasher is waiting for my order. Another 30 mins go by and the restuarant cancels my order. I waited 90 mins for nothing. I understand businesses get busy, but my order should have been cancelled MUCH sooner. If yall were truly that busy, you should have never confirmed it to begin with nonetheless cancel it after an hour and a half with no explanation. That is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. Absolute horrible costumer service. I'm a nurse and had to go to work without dinner. I will NEVER be ordering from here again. read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant in Round Rock/Georgetown. Pre-COVID we sat down here a number of times and were never disappointed. My GF really likes crab rangoon and these folks have some really good crab rangoon. Sadly, they never opened up the dining room when other restaurants did. When I was in high school, my friends would tell me one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in town was Sichuan Garden. I tried it years ago, but I didn't know what real Chinese food was until I went to China two times. There, I loved the authentic un-Americanized food that was made full of love and passion. I can't believe I grew up less than a mile from this restaurant without fully grasping its full potentials Sichuan Garden did not disappoint. I walked in and was immediately taken to a table. Our waitress, Winnie, took care of us. The moment I picked up the menu, I found my favorite dishes - di san xian (eggplant, potato, peppers) and gong bao ji ding (Kung pao chicken). I know what you're thinking.... "They serve kung pao at Panda Express!" This isn't your average fast food Kung pao. This was the Kung pao I would get in every restaurant that was more of the same. It gave me a glimpse of life on the subways and walking through Nanjing. Days were exhausting, but when I stopped to eat dinner, Kung pao chicken made me feel like my day was fulfilled. Di san xian... I requested it to be spicy and it was spicy, but not too spicy and the flavor and crispiness of the potatoes were awesome. The taste and textures also reminded me of refueling after a long day. Their food gave me a reminiscent experience that will make me come back for more. Winnie, my server was amazing. When I ordered, I said the Chinese names for the dishes and she was curious and I told her I had been there. She got quite excited and told us about her life, it was a sweet interaction and she made sure our food was okay and our water was filled. It was one of the best service experiences I've received. This place is pretty good, my friend Bow recommended coming here for the best dumplings so I had to try them with the siuchan sauce. She wasn't lying they were awesome, the menu has lots of dim sum type items on it but they don't do actual dim sum. I got their hot and sour soup which was great and the scallion pancake which I enjoyed with butterfly shrimp and then we got steamed pork buns as I thought it was something else but they are just like dumplings...still good. Honey got the general tsao chicken which was standard. The menu is large and has some interesting items like intestine and blood sausage. I am not sure if I am brave enough to try that but it is always an option. It is very pricey for Chinese food IMO though so not sure if I would return any time soon because of that, service was excellent. read more

But this restaurant is a little bit slower than Asia Cafe. And they served my appetizer in the end. That's a strange order. Also Asia Cafe is like self service place, they don't require tip. Came here on a whim the other day since I was near the area and decided to give a new place a shot. I was seated right away and the staff were friendly. The ambiance of the dining area was also nice. The menu is absolutely huge which was a little overwhelming and the prices seemed a bit on the high end. I ended up ordering the Dan Dan noodles, and while the flavor was okay, I definitely could have gone higher on the spice. The noodles weren't bad, a little bland compared to what I expected from sichuan cuisine. But oh boy, the bowl was HUGE. Came back for dinner after spending a day in Georgetown. It's really good for dinner compared to lunch. Our group order a lot of food and were not disappointed. Tier 1 (aka be sure to order this): 1. Boiled Filet with spicy sauce (with bean curd?). Aka spicy fish in chili sauce with tofu. Really good and nice to have silky tofu with this. It's like getting the water boiled fish and mapo tofu....together! 2. House Special Crispy Spicy Chicken - nuggets of slightly spicy crispy fried chicken chunks. It's really flavorful and nice to have large bits of meat compared to other places where there's more chilis than meat 3. Pork belly in chili oil - its less vinegry than other places (which I like, since I hate vinegar) but with all the flavorful pork belly and not too spicy chili oil. Tier 2 (good stuff): 1. Green beans with ground pork - flash fried green beans with some meaty flavor. They come out pipping hot that's for sure 2. Cumin lamb - less cumin heavy than other places and more vegetation. It's great if you like lamb but don't want as much cumin flavor, meh if you expected the heavy cumin profile 3. Snow pea leaves - standard chinese fare 4. Fried fish fillet in spicy sauce? Not sure if its on the menu but we got a deep fried chunks of fish in chili sauce of some kind that was pretty good. Tier 3 (ok but probably better elsewhere): 1. Beef flat noodle - not that flavorful and not used to seeing it with carrots. 2. Dry pot - never was a fan of dry pot so take that with a grain of salt. It's a lot of vegetables 3. Braised eggplant - just not much pop to the flavor but its ok if you need more vegetables. 4. Orange beef - if you need that panda express fix, guess this would work but given all the other awesome stuff here, why get this? Also nice is your rice options by default can be either fried rice or white rice. Note the fried rice is really just soy sauce and some pepper thats been fried, its not too special but hey, its a nice touch compared to just steamed rice for those who want their carb fix. So great Chinese food for the area. Just avoid the americanized stuff and you'll be happy as a clam. read more
