We came recently and this time they had the full menu. 9 people were in our party and we were seated pretty quickly. We have been coming to Topaz Lodge for many years on our anniversary. We love the view, the old school atmosphere, the staff, and the ribeyes! However, this year(2026) I noticed some differences. The ribeye was tough and tasteless. The live blackjack was gone. The gift store had hardly any gifts. I don't know about the food. I didn't get to eat here. The Lodge really advertises this part of the resort but it's only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. This vintage motel was just right for an overnight road trip stay. I loved the large grassy picnic area with barbecues and a swing set right in front of the motel! Perfect for families traveling with children. The lake view from the room was lovely. Rooms are clean and large with 80's lodge decor. The price reflects the older vibe. This historic gem of Lake Topaz deserves a resurrection. As a local (I live in TRE, just down the road...) I would love to have a casual fine dining restaurant nearby. This just isn't the case with the steakhouse currently. The food is okay. Just okay. The ingredients are quality and the portions aren't lacking - but there's no heart in this restaurant. From the overworked yet still jovial & down to earth waitress to the kitchen. Everyone is just tired and getting by, and the experience you have here reflects that. Topaz Lake is a quaint small little place. It is not south shore Lake Tahoe, or Las Vegas. Keeping this in mind, I give them a 5 star rating for many reasons. 1. There is a sign posted on the door reading "Please be nice. We are short on help. Please be kind to those who have actually shown up" Two women were working the entire steakhouse. Each handled roughly 6 tables and did all their own bartending. Wow. 2. Our server was very busy when we arrived, it took about 10 minutes to be seated at a clean table. Not bad. She really was so nice and professional. Wish I knew her name. She's an angel. 3. We immediately told her we would make it easy, we would both get the exact same thing (filet mignon med-rare) and whatever else she suggested as far as sides and so forth. She did indeed like us. 4. The place slowed down a bit after a while, and I overheard the other server talking to some other passers-through and she too was very engaging and took an interest in them also. They only hire good humans. 5. Food was exceptional! Filet mignons were huge! we thinly sliced our leftover steak to make steak sandwiches with on our 9 hour drive home the next morning. She was happy to bring a small box and some extra butter for said sandwiches for the next day. Asparagus was cooked right, as was the garlic mashed potatoes, and the french onion soup was surprisingly well made. 6. Our bill was reasonable and we over tipped our server for her exceptional service. Looks can be deceiving. Give this place a try with a relaxed open mind if you're passing on down that long 395. It had an overwhelming amount of garlic. I like garlic, but every bite had large pieces of garlic. It was not very appetizing to chew chunks of garlic with each bite. After the meal I felt a little queasy from so much garlic. This dish was almost $30. That's too much for what it is. The salad was also somewhat wilted and very small. It was a very disappointing meal and we won't be back. This place is comparably priced to CV Steak and CV Steak has much better food. read more

The butter that came on my baked potatoes was still FROZEN which made the baked potatoes cold. The bread was served cold and the butter that came with it was FROZEN. April 18th a friend invited me to the Steakhouse at Topaz Lake NV. We have been several and have had great food and service. Not on this visit. He ordered Swordfish, it was a frozen than microwaved chunk of some kind of white fish that was still cold. I ordered the 10oz Filet Migon medium rare. I received something that was served medium and had also been microwaved, it was still cold in the center and VERY gray in color. The butter for the bread was rancid and the coconut shrimp was the frozen ones from Costco that were also microwaved. Needless to say it was not an enjoyable meal. The worst restaurant I have ever visited. The food was just so bad. I don't understand how you can serve such bad food. How can you work in a restaurant or manage a restaurant without understanding anything about cooking, without any basic understanding or basic experience. We got terrible dishes and left hungry. All the food was OK, I had elk chops, a little less sauce would have been better. We order Lemon/lime cheese cake. Diaster! Served partially frozen and very hard. Worst restaurant I have been to in a while! Overpriced, disgusting food, horrible atmosphere, dirty dishes and unprofessional staff. Waited for over an hour to be seated, they don't take reservations (which would help cut down on wait time and over working staff/kitchen staff). They offered us two beers on the house after the hostess skipped our party twice. No one manning the bar to get offer drinks, passed by multiple staff members without even a greeting. The food was terrible! Bread served cold, dirty water and wine glasses. Our waitress was less than thrilled to serve us. My husband's steak was nothing but gristle and slapped on his plate with no seasoning. The salads were nothing impressive, oil and vinegar jars covered in a sticky substance,s o were our wine glasses. My elk chops were unseasoned and drowning in a salty sauce. We ordered scallops as an appetizer and asked if there were five or six scallops in the dish. We were told with a confident answer that there were six when there turned out to be four. They were swimming in a mayonnaise Mandarin sauce and thrown onto our table right in the middle of our salads. They tasted as if they were microwaved scallops The texture was disgusting. The atmosphere of that restaurant is loud dirty and it feels like an '80s diner. Nothing close to being a steakhouse would not recommend my worst enemy. You'd be better off putting salt and pepper on a sandal and eating it for dinner for the price that they charged for a couple over $120 with the worst service, worst atmosphere and worse for food I've ever had in my life. read more

I want to start with the good... The food and our wait service was great. They said the food was good here, and I couldn't agree more. We got Elk chops and ribs, and we were very happy! Our waitress... very friendly and made up for a very rough start to this evenings meal. While trying to inquire about a table, I could see that the very small venue was full, and everyone was hustling. It was clear that it was going to take a bit, and that was understandable. What I could not understand is how a hostess could treat a customer so poorly, for simply asking to leave my name for a table. There were others that had the same experience, and it became a good joke to pass the wait time. Frankly, I've never had a worse hostess experience, and the only reason we stayed was, well, there wasn't another option. That being said, I am glad that we stayed, as we did end up enjoying the meal and wait service. We ate at the Coffee Shop upstairs, not the Steakhouse downstairs. Food is very good, fairly reasonably priced, and the service was truly excellent. Heard the Steakhouse is also very good, although a little more expensive, as you would expect. Very nice backdrop for you meal also, as the Lodge sits above Topaz Lake. Making things even better is that the Lodge has a bit of a retro feel to it - made me feel like I was back in the 60's and early 70's. Highly recommended. read more

Worse steak, I have ever had no flavor at all, and I had to use steak sauce. A good steak should never need steak sauce. Service was slow and seemed to be bothered when asking for water or bread. Got the water, no bread. When they came to refill drinks, the ice had already melted. Instead of new glasses, it just poured the soda into the same glass. Could have saved myself $400 and just went to the cafe upstairs. I understand being under staff, but when you do come and check, make sure you give service at the table. read more

We visited on Friday night at 7:30 pm. Restaurant had a couple of tables of parties that included 4 guests and 6 guests. Additionally, there was a group of 2 in a booth and 1 gentlemen in a booth by himself. We waited so long to even be acknowledged that we assumed there was only one waitress. Not the case. We ordered the spinach dip appetizer which came with some unappealing dip that had some coagulated substance in it and 4 pieces of barely toasted bread. The salads were almost all chopped lettuce amounting to about 1/3 cup of lettuce and a few croutons. Two of our party of three ordered the fish special which was supposed to consist of a flakey white fish with a tropical sauce. What arrived was fish that was so unbelievably dry as to be ruined covered in a gross, chunky sauce that tasted like poorly made applesauce. The third member of our party had the elk chops which were adequate but nothing special. The waitress never offered dessert or coffee afterward but asked, "you don't want anything else, do you?" Overall, we had a very sad meal at a price of $187.00 for 3 people without dessert or coffee. We were entirely unimpressed and won't be back. read more
