They do not offer table service as they are low on staff but you can dine in with your to-go order. They prive you cups, water, you can order soda, utensils, etc. You can order ahead or order when you get there. It was incredibly busy so we were hoping for some good Chinese food. The ambiance is an old Chinese restaurant that used to have a buffet, but it was clean. What we ordered: - kung pao chicken: I thought the flavors were good, the right amount of heat and I absolutely love Chinese broccoli so this was good for me! It has peanuts and your typical celery so this didn't disappoint. - spicy chicken garlic: nice spice, but it was drenched in sauce. There were more vegetables than meat, so paying $12-16 for something with minimum meat seems a bit of a rip off. - spicy shrimp garlic: it was the same but with shrimp. I asked for extra shrimp and they charged $3, which is fine but I would think it would be heaping with shrimp, but it was the same as the chicken. - orange chicken: perfectly fried and the sauce was not overpowering of orange. My daughter enjoyed it, it was spicy but had a nice heat to it. - chicken lo mein: my daughter loved it. It was good and the noodles were mushy. - cheese Rangoon: a bit disappointing as I wanted some flavor other than cream cheese. It had a sweetness to it but a little green onions:chives would have made it better. - pork fried rice: didn't have a lot of soy flavor. It was mild and lack luster. While I wouldn't say don't eat here, it was one of the better eats of Taos in our opinion. If you're looking for Chinese food around the area, I'd try them out if you can't find anything else to eat. read more

No complaints here. It's always tricky ordering Chinese Food outside of big cities with Chinatowns so best to lower your expectations and not compare. The standard favorites will taste different everywhere you go. We ordered Peking Duck 1/2 and Hunan Lamb mid afternoon and warmed it up a few hours later in the oven. It was very good. The duck tasted great though a little on the small side for 1/2 a duck. The Hunan Lamb was mildly spicy and moist, not in a thick sauce, just light sautees to give it moisture, yes there were a few peppers and onion and that baby corn that so divides opinions. Just say no if you dont want it. We got a great dinner for $41.00. The service was very polite - my husband was Mr Paul, and a thank you for waiting. You can choose to eat in the restaurant but it is self service from your styrofoam containers and you clean up. These boys know about Lamb and we were very happy. read more

The food was average, and you can order and you can sit inside and eat out do turn to go food. The expectation minus the service is a tip. Ordered takeout General Tao's Tofu NOT what I received so I called and informed them only to be told "every restaurant makes it different" different sure but this had red and green bell pepper, baby corn, water chestnuts and mushrooms. I'm in my 60's and have ordered Gen Tao's many times (vegan) in CA, FL, NM, TN, CO, AZ, OK etc and NEVER has it been prepared like this. Wish I could say we enjoyed it anyway but we did not. We've eaten here a few times in the past, and this review is posted with the understanding that one's options for good, authentic Chinese food in the area are limited. That being said, things have gone downhill a bit over time. First of all, the decor hasn't changed a bit, and it needs to. While not unclean, it is looking tired and worn. Some fresh paint, cleaned &/or new carpets, etc. are really called for. The food also, has become more Americanized and less authentic. Spice levels have diminished and it seems like the cooks have given up. On semi-related note, the do offer chow fun noodles, which are a thicker flat rice noodle. I really enjoy these, but when they arrived they were broken and overcooked, and the sauce was lackluster. All and all, disappointing, reminding me more of a generic 'golden panda' at a food court. read more

This place is by far one of the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been to in my life. We only came here because it was one of the few Chinese restaurant in town and my parents wanted Chinese food. We gave the place 2 tries and it failed us both times. The main problem is that so many of their food were UNDERCOOKED! I'm not sure whether it was just because they were rushing the food due to high amount of orders during the holiday season but it was pretty ridiculous. Out of the 8 dishes we ordered in 2 days, the undercooked items we identified were the wontons and the meats in the wonton soup, shrimps in the friend rice, chewy eggplants in the eggplant dish, and even the white rice! How can the white rice be undercooked in a Chinese restaurant? And they weren't just slightly undercooked. We expressed our concerns at the end of our second meal but the waiter came back with a message from the chef that "no one else has complained about the food before". Wow. I gave this place 1.5 stars only because the rest of the food was edible and none of us got sick afterwards. Don't be fooled by the name of the place because it doesn't really have any authentic Hunan (or even Chinese) food. The menu had the dishes in Chinese but you have to read the small descriptions in English because the dish might not match what the dish name is commonly used for. Also, no one in the restaurant spoke Chinese as far as we know. Lastly, the place was severely understaffed. There were only 2 waiters and 1 half-waitress (water refills only) for the entire restaurant. This resulted in extremely slow services for both nights we were there. read more

Amazing food for this area. We had Kung Pao Squid with peanuts, Szechuan Beef, and Two Mushrooms with Snow peas. We specifically requested everything to be extra spicy as that's how we both enjoy it. The squid was so tender as was the beef. The snow peas were so fresh and green. So sad that Hubby devoured the food before I could take photos. Definitely worth returning to as it was all so delicious. The restaurant was quite large as well. I am basing my stars given the fact there are only 2 chinese restaurants in the area. read more

I've lived in Taos for 8 yrs and hunan has had pretty good food until yesterday..Whoever made my kung pow chicken lunch portion used nothing but the terrible(not spicy) chili oil as sauce, so my food was DRENCHED in 3" of oil! A friend has the chicken noodle soup and said it was some of the best she's had. The egg drop soup was good, too, but we wished we'd gotten friend won tons to go with it. I had the cashew chicken and it was ok, and another friend had the sweet and sour chicken and said it was very good. The vegetables in garlic sauce were tasty but a little over cooked. We're here in Taos, New Mexico for a ski trip with some family and friends and we stopped by here for dinner. We came in around 5:30 PM, and there weren't that many people there. We had a party of about 16 and we were seated within 10 minutes which was pretty quick! We ordered family style and had an assortment of plate from pan fried noodles, orange beef, general tsos chicken, and several other dishes. The food was really good especially the General tsos chicken which was my favorite out of all of them. The dishes came with fried rice and steamed rice as well. (The fried rice served with the family style meal wasn't all too special to be honest) The service here was exceptional and they treated us amazingly! Good hot and sour soup and that was just to start. The Chicken with green beans was my wife's favorite and mine was the pan fried noodles with chicken. We also had BBQ pork fried rice, a bit to much fat on the pork for me but the dish was good. We also had a spicy scallops dish, but the chili hid the taste of the scallops, I should have known better. If it sounds like this was a lot of food for 2 people, it was also lunch and dinner for us the next day! Our waiter was a very funny guy, good service and entertainment to!
