This little restaurant is amazing, absolutely love that it's stuck around on CSU Channel Islands' campus for so long. When I was a student here, I often frequented Mom Wong's or Tortillas and they're still here which is incredible. Mom Wong's is very student-friendly prices as well. Each dish pictured here was about $10-12 and the portions are huge! Seriously, if I was still a student here I'd be going here every week because I'd have enough food for three days. Now for the quality of the food... each dish was great. The chow mein, which included chicken and shrimp, was awesome. Seasoned nicely and not too greasy. The orange chicken, which looked and tasted a bit more like sweet and sour chicken (not mad about that!), was also very good and retained its crispiness. Suddenly, I wanted to eat dumplings, and I decided to try here. It's located in the back of CSUCI. At first, I didn't think there was a restaurant there. Inside the restaurant, the ambiance is casual. I ordered the Juicy pork dumpling($10.99 ) and Milk tea with boba ($4.49). The dumplings were very juicy and a little sweet. That would be nice if they had some ginger slices and black vinegar for the dumplings. About boba tea, it's good. I prefer the tea to be stronger. Boba tea was warm, which means it's fresh, but needed more ice. They always serve in to-go containers. This place is good for friends, couples, and families. AUG2024 Needed an asian food fix so we landed here. We came close to closing, but they were nice and still helped us out. The decor for the place was right up my alley. Service was helpful with any questions we had. I had ordered the dan dan noodle and the stir fried bok choy. The flavors were on point which was nice. I think the only detractor, the dan dan noodle just felt light on the amount and balance of ingredients. Of benefit I could toss in the bok choy from the other dish but still. I was told by a friend this place was good so I wanted to try them out. The inside has a lot of anime stuff going on. Pretty cool! I didn't know what to order so ended up getting your typical Chinese food; pork dumplings, orange chicken and vegetable fried rice. Pretty surprised the food tasted delicious! What is even more crazy is that there's a little old lady in the bad who cooked everything! I can't say for sure it was only her but she was the only one I saw in the back. I loved the pork dumplings because I did a Togo order and they were still hot/fresh and with the soup inside when I bit into the dumplings. Every single of one of them had soup inside of them! Super delicious! The orange chicken was tasty too with lots of crunchiness to it and fried rice was good too! If I knew white rice came with the meal I wouldn't have ordered the fried rice. But anywho! It's good to try all of it since it was recommended by a friend. This is such a little hidden gem that I would have never know it was here if it wasn't for word of mouth. Had the best meal here the other day with some friends! I've been dying to try Mom Wong Kitchen for years now and my biggest regret is that I hadn't tried this place sooner. It was fantastic! Located in the back of the CSUCI campus it is a mission to get here but the drive is beautiful and the food is well worth the slight trek up the mountain. The restaurant itself is darling, very casual as you order at the counter but the inside is super cute with their decorations. They have large Pokémon figures and cute wall art that makes this spot super welcoming and whimsical. Also I like that even though you order at the counter the staff bring your food over to your table which is nice. Staff here were very friendly and helpful. It was our first time so the gal working behind the counter gave us great recommendations and was helpful from start to finish. All of the food is made fresh to order but I was impressed that we didn't have to wait long. They are also smart - that even when you dine in they bring all of the foods out already in to go containers. This made it easy for us to take home what we couldn't finish and keeps them from getting tied up washing dishes in the back. A win win. The food was all really delicious and extremely reasonably priced. It's nice that the college has this option on campus as I remember being on a college budget but still wanting to eat quality food, which is what you get here without breaking the bank. I was able to order a fancy drink, appetizer, and main dish for under $28. Pretty good if you ask me + there were leftovers. They have boba and fruit teas here! Delicious. I got the grapefruit slush tea which was fabulous. Reminded me of the grapefruit teas I would get back in LA. The gal was sweet to warn me this drink is a little bitter so we opted to make it extra sweet and it was A+. My table shared the pork dumplings and I was thrilled at how good they were! It's hard to find good dim sum in the 805 and I will say this place satisfied my craving for when I can't travel back down to LA. The wrapping was perfect as was the filling. Next time I'd ask for some chili oil on the side and it would be the perfect bite. Lastly, had the Dan Dan noodles which are a must order. Noodles weee perfectly cooked and the sauce meat combo had good flavor and wasn't spicy which I prefer how they make it. Very tasty good here. On a positive note, ample visitor parking is located near the entrance to the parking lot, and the steamed white rice was perfect. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was unsatisfactory and very salty. The spicy pork dumplings were excessively spicy (why not serve the sauce on the side?). The green beans were limp and over cooked. The ma po contained only tofu (not even potato) in a vile red Sriracha sauce. The eggplant had little flavor. I only tried this place once, while visiting Camarillo. Mapo Tofu was good. The Original Fried Chicken was too dry and no sauce--cannot figure what this dish is trying to accomplish of light battered fried pieces. Each dish included steamed rice--nice. Braised Beef Noodle soup had tendered beef, noodles were thin though still a bit too thick for my preference. I requested spicy but not enough. I would come back, but it is within Cal State University Channel Islands campus, and a bit far off from 101 freeway. Not sure of a return. read more

Solid restaurant with authentic Chinese food. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup and it was delicious. The broth was just the right amount of flavorful and there was a good portion of beef included. I ordered to eat in, but it seems they pack the food to-go regardless. The service is what you would expect from an authentic Chinese restaurant, not super attentive, they serve you your food and then leave you alone. When the food is good it doesn't bother me too much personally, but figured I should mention it. The only other thing I would note is that the restaurant is located on the CSU Channel Islands campus, so the parking lot is labeled for student housing. I wasn't ticketed, but I did come on Memorial Day when it was very empty so I would double check if it's OK to park there without a permit. read more

Wow, I was very impressed by this place. I took my Chinese dad here. A bunch of Chinese customers can in and out, so you know this place is good. The decor was bright and cute with the Pokemon figures and the adorable animals on the walls. Parking was easy with school out (it's located on the CSUCI) and it was in a quiet plaza. The service was very dry but efficient. We ordered at the counter and were brought our food in plastic take out containers, but we ate there. We had the tomato and egg noodle, the special hand torn noodle with pork, the xiao long bao, and the chong qing fried chicken. All were flavorful and authentic. Plus, the price can't be beat. This place is definitely a sleeper hit, located on the CSUCI campus. I used to live closer and found this originally on Yelp years ago and we've gotten take-out multiple times. We revisited tonight to enjoy their spicy fried chicken w/ rice, bbq pork buns and spicy chili wontons. The service is always prompt , I used to always order to-go orders online and bring them home and it was usually ready by the time I left me place and got there no matter how big or small my order was (it usually was on the bigger side because their menu keeps real well as leftovers). Today we decided to dine in, the place is showing a little bit of age with some dust and some imperfections on the walls and furniture. But it's still fine and charming on the inside. Dining in on a Friday night it was fairly quiet, we only had 2 other couples come in during the entire time we were there. I think when it's closer to the school season it gets more busy. The food is all very solid and one of the few places you can get some of the menu items in the area that include dumplings, noodle soups, fried chicken and other familiar food options. Just drove 40 minutes round trip and spent $50, only to get home and find that several pieces of the beef are discolored, green. Split the potstickers open to find the pork rare at best, some pieces borderline raw in the middle. Complete waste of time and money. This place is a little off the beaten path as it is located as part of California State University Channel Islands but if you are anywhere near the Camarillo outlets it is only about 4 miles away. If you like supporting local business I would recommend giving this place a try. Service- Very nice. Parking- There is a large parking lot that always has plenty of parking, at least on the weekends when I have been there. Just make sure to look at the signs as some parking is designated for students and some is for anyone going into this small center that has 3 restaurants. The Food- I always eat in and the food comes out hot and crispy and the prices are modest. Orange Chicken- Very good and I would highly recommend. This resto is located within the vicinity of the CSUCI. Don't park in the parking lot as you will get a ticket - it is reserved for students and requires a parking sticker. Anyway, we went there and parked on the street ( by the condos). Service is fast, food was good and theme of the restaurant is mostly for young adults. I love the food but it is has too much oil. The Mongolian beef has too much onions but their orange chicken is the best! I would definitely go back on the weekends when there are less students in the area. read more

Also... chicken dumplings shouldn't be... pink. Kung Po chicken had 1/2 inch of fry grease at the bottom. Unfathomably greasy and without peanuts, devoid of flavor and generally, inedible. We ate Chinese but we simply do not have the energy to make so many dishes and to be honest all the chopping and dicing. Nope! I'm that slightly lazy Asian who will not make Chinese food unless I'm threatened. I think this family is from China as their flavors have a sweetness to it rather than the tart in Taiwan. On a chilly day like today, I was craving mapo tofu. I came across Mom Wong Kitchen and ordered right away. I got the mapo tofu which comes w/ white rice and the garlic fried chicken entree! The mapo tofu was delicious, it was very flavorful with a hint of spice. The garlic fried chicken was probably a 7/10. Some pieces were overcooked and the garlic flavor wasn't as prominent, but it was still yummy. Overall: I had a good take out experience. On the edge of CSUCI's campus, in the food court, we happened upon Mom Wong Kitchen when trying out Tortillas next door. The food is served in portions to share, no combo plates, which seemed odd for a food court place. We had the pan fried chicken dumplings, pork buns, broccoli beef, and chicken chow mein. It was more than enough for 2 people with left overs for the next day. It was made to order, the chow mein was a little greasy, but overall everything was surprisingly tasty. I had no complaints and will be returning. I also had their honeydew slush with boba and look forward to trying their other flavors. There's plenty of seating inside and out. If we're just talking about the food, its delicious. 5/5. But its hard to talk about the food when the ordering experience left much to be desired. Completely cut us off when we were ordering and gives the nastiest glare. Doesn't accommodate for the elderly or notify people when the food is ready. Maybe he was having a bad day? But it was truly unpleasant 1/5. Ambiance is really appealing to the anime masses with Gen 1 Pokemon statues and One Piece figures from Film Gold and Wano. I was craving some good fresh Chinese takeout on my way home from work and this out of the way spot did not disappoint! After reading other yelper reviews ( thanks Jara S.!) I drove the windy single lane road into Channel Islands College campus. Parking was plentiful and easy. The inside isn't much and covered in anime art. The menu is varied and familiar. I ordered their spicy Dan Dan Noodle, schezhuan style eggplant and Kung pao chicken for my man. It did not disappoint. The veggies were finely chopped and fresh. The chicken was tender and sauced well. The eggplant was good but a little greasy for my liking. I would definitely return if I'm in the area. The prices are very fair! A major slay. Tucked away on a school campus, this traditional Chinese restaurant serves up some yummy noms!! My parents took me here on a weekend, the interior is sunny and cutely and uniquely decorated. It seems to be a very calm work environment, the staff has good service and is very prompt. We got the beef pancake rolls, beef noodle soup, hand pulled noodles with bean sprouts and beef, soup dumplings, and two boba milk teas. Everything was pretty good!! Good to have a variety of authentic Chinese dishes in Ventura County. There are days where I yearn for a true taste of authentic dim sum. In the area of Camarillo, there are no locations that I know of that will bring back the memories of some wholesome shrimp siu mai, steamed spare ribs, spicy chicken, or even a carb loaded noodle dish. Well, if you crave these Asian dishes like I do, then look no further than Mom Wong Kitchen. Now you really have to want to have a craving for authentic Chinese delicacies to make this visit worth your while. It's located in the middle the campus of Cal State Channel Island; getting here is no easy off and on 101 freeway exit so you really have to commit to getting here. Once you arrive, you'll be happy to see that the environment is clean and spacious. The menu items will not be as expansive as a large Chinese restaurant but what you will find is each dish is made to order and comes to you as fresh & hot right off the wok it was cooked under. My choice of dishes for a small meal: Shrimp & Chive Egg Dumpling - steamed perfectly on top with a pan-char on the bottom. The filling was the right amount of shrimp and chives that was moist and flavorful. Chongqing Style Fried Spicy Chicken - the crunchy goodness along with the tender chicken meat was perfect. The Tien Tsin Peppers added the proper amount of spice without it being overbearing to the taste pallet. For the price paid, you get more quantity/quality of chicken than you'll find anywhere in Ventura County; I promise you. If you're looking for a Dim Sum feast of Peking Duck, deep fried oysters, and steam whole fish, then this is not the place for you. What Mom Wong Kitchen does offer is plenty of smaller authentic handmade dishes that can be appreciated not only from Chinese food aficionado but also from a simple "Mom & Pop" eatery that clearly puts their heart into every dish that emerges from their kitchen. read more

Sky, Kai, or the male individual who's usually in the front was handling customers rudely. From the start, he seemed to be annoyed while I was placing the order, which happened to only be TWO drinks. After asking for extra boba, he seemed to not know what boba was by repeatedly asking "HUH" in a rude tone. After throwing the drinks and the straws on the counter, he walked away after I called for some service. On the third account of me asking, he came back and said "WHAT" in a rude tone as well. Knowing that this establishment is family owned, maybe the family values would be more welcoming but instead I got the opposite. Should definitely be talked to and trained about what customer service is and how to handle customers. read more

This restaurant is 100% authentic Chinese. My first time here after finding it on yelp and I have to say, I was unsure because of the location being on a College campus but Wow Wow. Wow. The food is off the charts good. Everything tastes homemade and the Chef, Mom Wong brought out the hot pot herself so proudly on a portable table top stove. The Orange Chicken was legit and so were the Dumplings and Chicken Chowmein. I'm looking forward to my next trip here to try the rest of the items on the menu. Hands down the best Chinese food in Ventura County. After reading the stellar reviews, I finally got to pair a visit to Mom Wong Kitchen with a visit to the Dolores Huerta/Farm Labor art exhibits at he Broome Library at CSU Channel Islands. Walked over the pedestrian bridge from the Library and found Mom Wong's after asking some friendly and helpful students. The food met all my expectations--hand-ripped noodles w pork, soup dumplings, spicy wontons, steamed pork buns, fried rice, fried chicken, sautéed green beans--all good! The hand-ripped noodle was scrumptious. I will try other dishes when I return, as I'll definitely be back. I wish there were a second off-campus location, but for now, a return trip to CSUCI is worth it just to get this delicious food. Oh and the Grapefruit Tea boba--perfection. read more
