On our way back from yosemite to sonora we stopped in for take out. We ordered garlic fried and well done burgers. Both burgers were pink. The onion rings were burnt and no garlic fries. The lady who waited on us was adamant that no substitution yet no garlic fries just regular fries were in the box with the raw burger. She was complaining how busy they were but there was only 1 customer eating. Sonora is a long way to drive back at 6 dollars a gallon for gas. Great place to stop and have a relaxing bite to eat on your way to or from Yosemite. My group of four came for dinner on a Monday night. Nothing else in town was open, so we ended up there by default. Lucky us! I had the fish tacos (delicious light meal) that came with some of the best fries I've had. Golden, crispy, light and fluffy. I'd come back for those alone! My wife and mom had salads and raved about the fried chicken that was chopped on top of them. My dad had the chicken, bacon, cheddar sandwich which also came with the amazing fries. COVID precautions were taken. We felt very safe, and the service was excellent. Highly recommend! Before you read a long rant. Avoid this place. Go to the Priest Station down the road. You want to know why? Keep reading. First, everyone is absolutely right about the flies and service. Flies are quite common. The service needs significant improvement. When we sat down and asked for a glass of water while choosing our meals, we were told to order first. Fun thing to hear when its 105 outside. Second, our appetizer took 40 minutes to come out and our entrees took an hour. That is not reasonable. As for the food, we ordered mozzarella sticks, steak fajita skillet and the mushroom swiss burger. The mozzarella sticks were typical frozen mass produced sticks. Essentially flavorless, better of going to the supermarket in the same plaza (Mar-Vals) and perusing the freezer section. The burger was bland. Lacked flavor. And was as far from "juicy" as you could get. Very few mushrooms. Onions lacked flavor. The steak fajita to our surprise was a little spicy. Not significantly, but it was not noted in the menu. Steak fajita could be described as descent. Not worth stopping here for. Bonus round, no one refills your drinks. And its canned soda. No refills. My honest recommendation, go to the Priest Station down the road. You won't regret making the significantly better choice. read more

We sat down, looked at the menus, made our decision, and my husband stood in line (only one family of three ahead of him). So, we thought this should go quickly. After standing in line for 15minutes, still waiting to place our order. I am sitting at the table swatting flies, so I checked Yelp to see what the reviews were like. OMG! I really wish I had checked the reviews before. I do like to judge places for myself because, in my personal opinion, some people just rant without leaving an informative review. I then called to my husband and said, "Let's find another place." We left. We found a very good restaurant about 3.5 miles down the road called Priest Station Cafe. We went there for lunch as we are camping in the neighborhood. First talk about the positive : we had nachos and chicken fried steak. It was very good, probably one of the best chicken fried steak I had in ages. The nachos were tasty and the meat on the top was very well cooked ! The back patio was very nice. Now let's get real and I hope the management reads it so you guys can do something. The service was horrible. There were maybe 10 customers here and 2 waitresses. They were unfriendly , super bothered of answering our questions. We asked for water that we never got. We sat and had to wait 10 min that somebody came to bus the dirt table and leftovers from previous customers. Every time an employee showed up they looked angry and unhappy to be there. Finally we had a part of our order (15min after ) and 15 min after the other part. No smile, no question about needed anything etc. The table close to us had to re order 3 times and they finally left without having half of it. Stopped in after a Yosemite backpacking trip. Our waitress was super friendly. Had a hamburger. Tasty. They cook it with the bun on the grill so it was loaded with flavor. Nice big meat patty too. Tried going here twice while spending a week in the area. 1st time was for lunch and we along with 2 other groups ended up leaving because they had no cook, but yet they still had their OPEN sign on. 2nd time, we tried weekend brunch. We walked into a semi-full restaurant with quite a few people standing around and others sitting at tables with menus. Very few people seemed to know where to place their orders. When another couple came in behind us, the older gentleman working at the counter yelled out that we had to place our orders before sitting down and that tables were for eating people only. I grabbed a table so I could sit and had my husband wait in line. The only table I saw that had food was complaining to each other how most of their orders were wrong and the counter person had told one of them that if they wanted the correct orders or different orders, they would have to pay extra because they got what they paid for. After waiting another 5 minutes of listening to people complain about the wait and hearing another table complain about weird tasting coffee, my husband and I left. Stopping-in for breakfast on the way to a Yosemite hike, we decided to give Hungry Bear a try. Ordering is curious the place seems to have trouble making up its mind whether or not it's a sit-down restaurant or a fast food joint. One orders at the counter then finds their own table. Once the food is ready, a server brings it to the customer. There's about 12 tables in the place which were all full when we walked in. With only one cook on duty, service was understandably slow but the crew did an excellent job for the number of personnel they had on hand. The breakfast burrito filled my tank and was tasty. My #2 son ordered the 3-stack pancakes which weren't very filling and he left a little on the hungry side. Number 3 son had biscuits and gravy which were pretty average but there was enough to eat. There's not really much food around this small town, but even so I wouldn't recommend this place. We ate here for breakfast before driving into Yosemite. We got there right at 8am and it's nice and spacious and there weren't many people. We ordered at the register and then sat down outside. Then we proceeded to wait 40 minutes for our food. How can breakfast food possibly take that long? The omelette I ordered was quite overdone. I got an omelette that was supposed to be meat and veggies, but it was somehow all meat (sausage and bacon) so it was way too salty. The omelette also comes with cheese and the cheese was a single slice of cheese that looked like it was stuck in my omelette after it was taken off the heat. It wasn't even melted. Half the plate was a heaping portion of potatoes that were more like fries than breakfast potatoes.
