Stopped here on the way to Yosemite and ordered the toffee coffee latte with oat milk, and it was one of the best lattes I've had! One of the worst breakfasts I've ever had in a cafe/diner/restaurant. The eggs were terrible. Sausage mediocre. But the potatoes, oh man, the potatoes. They were awful. Obviously from a frozen bag and had a horrid texture. Tasted fishy, just absolutely inedible. Don't stop at this place on your way to Yosemite because it looks cute. Passing through town on the way to Yosemite, our group of four stopped at The Hungry Bear for breakfast. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most frustrating dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the cashier/host was unfriendly and unhelpful, showing no interest in providing even basic customer service. As we looked at the menu, debating between Chicken Fried Steak or Biscuits and Gravy, she abruptly cut in to say, "There is no gravy," and added that eggs could only be ordered scrambled. It was strange, especially at 10 AM, but whatever. Between our group, we ordered a mocha, two breakfast combos (sausage, eggs, bacon, potatoes), and chicken tenders to share. At the time, the restaurant was nearly empty, with just one other couple inside. Despite that, the service was painfully slow. My food came out first, but everything was overcooked, dry, and flavorless--the sausage and potatoes tasted like they had come straight from the freezer. I tried to wait for the rest of my group's meals, but after 15 minutes, there was still no sign of their food. When I got my coffee, (after asking twice) (20-30 minutes later?), there was no apology or acknowledgment from the cashier. More time passed, and another group that had arrived after us started looking restless. They also checked on their order after waiting over 25 minutes, only to find that the cashier was nowhere to be found (she was somewhere in the back?). Then came the most bizarre part of the experience--an older gentleman at a nearby table received biscuits and gravy with an over-easy egg, the exact meal we were told wasn't available. Confused, we asked the waitress about it as she dropped off his plate. Her response? "Oh, he's a local." That made absolutely no sense. Eventually, our group's food arrived in scattered waves. The chicken tenders came out, but one of the breakfast combos was still missing. When we checked again, we were told it had simply been forgotten altogether. Title of this review: Keep Driving, Don't Stop After a weekend of camping we stopped to eat here for breakfast. Usually little diners like this have some of the best breakfasts, but we were mistaken. This place was severely understaffed which added to their troubles. There was only 1 lady who would take the orders and then go back and cook the food. It took about 45 minutes from ordering to get the food out to us and then when we got it we were so disappointed. The waffles were basically rocks. Your waffle shouldn't make a sound when tapped against your plate. We thought oh maybe they're brown because they are chocolate covered waffles, nope burnt. How was this even served to us! Also, take a look at the pancake! That's half a pancake at best. The hash browns were oily and the veggie omelet was just ok. This place needs helps bad. They had to turn multiple customers away because the lady couldn't handle any more orders and do the cooking since she was by herself. I do feel bad for her but we shouldn't have been served the food we got. The price was also very high compared to the quality, or lack of quality, we received. read more

My family and I visited Hungry Bear for breakfast. I ordered a black coffee which got the job done and woke me right up but tasted as one would expect diner coffee to taste: basic. I also ordered a stack of buttermilk pancakes with berries. This stack was ginormous but like my coffee, lacked in flavor and I relied heavily on the syrup and butter. It wasn't too busy yet service was pretty slow. All in all, I wasn't blown away by this place but considering food options are limited in this area..I may come back if I'm ever passing through to go to Yosemite. read more

She made a delicious latte. She took our order have great recos. And they were great with kids meal. They also offer mimosas beer and wine if you want for brunch. So we came inside stood in front of the counter for a minute or two waiting someone to assist as or ask what do we need and the staff are not even looking at us. So we picked what we want and asked the front guy we're ready and told us there's a self service kiosk to place our order. So we did that and selected Dine in and paid for the order. And oh FYI, tips here are mandatory, no option for custom tip or no tip. Lowest tip is 17%. Then looked for our own table and wait for the order, then the group after us went back to the counter and this lady willingly assisted them and took their order instead of directing them to self service kiosk we were, "okay that's fine". Then once our order was up, it was all packed up for to go even if we selected Dine-in on the kiosk. Then the rude lade said "Here's your order. This is how you order your food so get it from here!" Then the group after us, they served the food on their table as if she's like their personal butler. Very bad service! They made us feel that we're absolutely not welcome to stay there! Coming out of Yosemite from a backpacking trip and we stopped here after not being able to find food in the park. Its a great convenient spot and the food is pretty tasty! My mom and I both had a bacon cheeseburger, which was very tasty and really hit the spot. The produce was very fresh, the burger was flavorful, and the bacon was nice and crisp. The only complaint is that it was a bit over cooked, but it was still good eating. The fries were spectacular and perfectly crispy. The restaurant was clean and the decor is cute.
