A must go to anyone. The service is quick and the workers are extremely nice and patient. The ordering process is a tad strange and takes a couple of times to get used to. The subs are beyond amazing, one is enough for two people ( unless you are able to eat a lot ). I measure by three different things in comparison to Taco Bell: DECOR: Hungry Bear is in the heart of Kendall right next to the Miami-Dade Kendall Campus. It's kind of hard to find it's in the inside core of a shopping center, not the outside. It's a very small place so no seats inside, but there's lots of seats outside. So if there's a hurricane coming you may want to go to Taco Bell and camp inside there with accessibility to endless tacos, burritos, and Chalupas. BUT if it's sunny, you're good to go at Hungry Bear! 1 star for Decor. SERVICE: Great service. They serve very quickly to customers to move the line along pretty much on par with Taco Bell. 2 stars for service! FOOD: Food here is delicious! Definitely the best sub shop in Miami, I just wish it wasn't as pricey or they had some kind of deal. Not exactly a bang for your buck so 1 star. FINAL VERDICT: Is Taco Bell better? Even with the small room for everyone to gather and order, the staff gets the orders in quickly and the food out efficiently. I recommend the steak bomb. This place has a "hole in the wall" type of impression tucked in a corner with only outdoor seating. I heard about this shop and how it was one of the "secret spots" in Miami's food spectrum and decided to give it a try. The location is lowkey really sketchy, there is no room to sit down so it's definitely a takeout type of joint but WOW! So good. I got the honey mustard chicken and loved it. First off, they definitely aren't skimpy with the portions. Tons of everything. Including sauce, which I loveeee! If you're a student at MDC, this is a great lunch spot. And if you're not, it's still a great place to go. It's inexpensive and delicious. I just wish it were bigger but I guess that's what warrants this place it's "hole in the wall" status. Hole-in-the-walls are sometimes the best, right?! In spite of my fondness and my 30 year history with this place, I was determined to be "objective" with my review, rather than sentimental and "subjective." FOOD: They have a pretty extensive variety of hot and cold subs which are generously filled with meats, cheeses, veggies, and other toppings. PRICES: You PAY for that generosity! MOST of their subs range between $9.45 - $9.95. So, with tax, that's over ten bucks per sub. AMBIENCE: What ambience?! Haha. Tiny, crowded, and old. Typical non-pretentious hole-in-the-wall ambience, PLUS a big bag of onions to greet you by the front door! SEATING: Zero seating inside. 2 metal picnic tables outside in the hot sun. (Get it "to go.") SERVICE: Prompt. Efficient. I must say, though, being real subjective here, I feel sorry for all the employees working in such cramped quarters. There are usually up to ten young college-aged employees behind the counter ... 3-4 cooks, 2-3 preps, 2 order takers, a cashier, etc. Hardly any elbow room for them to work. TODAY'S SUB: I had my usual BLT ... and, as usual, it was overflowing with ingredients, but tasted way too salty and the bread was dry which really threw off the whole sub. Came here as a invite and I was impressed. Small hole in the wall spot with a very fast,clean and inviting place. I ordered a steak sub and I loved it...Sat outside and ate it in a nice cool quiet picnic table set for customers to sit. Would of given it a 5 if they would of used A1 steak sauce instead of a made up sauce that is pretty vinegary if i can make it a word. The best thing about the sub is the amount of meat they put in it. It seems like the limit is as much as the sub can hold! I always share a sub with my dad and even then I feel like it's more than enough. The total comes out to around $10. "Bomb" (yes, if you frequent this establishment you'll understand my little pun play there) ass subs that are easily the best I've ever eaten in my entire life. I grew up in Miami, so I would eat here at least once a week. Now that I live on the West Coast of Florida, I crave this place like a weathered crack addict. At least twice a year I dream of opening my own Hungry Bear in Tampa Bay, because this area, for some god forsaken reason does NOT have grilled subs!!! Can you imagine, the horror! I have to repost theses instructions from another review because they are very helpful even to a person who was raised on Hungry Bear subs like myself: "The ordering process is a little confusing. Here are your instructions: 1) walk inside. don't be confused by the crowd milling about the door, they've already ordered. 2) step up to the counter and wait for someone in a bear t-shirt to grab a pen. 3) give them your order 4) step back and mill about by the door 5) wait until someone flags you to pay--this is when you decide on beverages 6) pay 7) mill about until someone flags you that your sub is ready 8) eat it. " The only other suggestion I would add to these is maybe grab a sandwich bag off the counter before you step up to order and read all the toppings on the back that way you're ready to order. You won't be disappointed no matter what sandwich you get, but I can definitely recommend any of the steak sandwiches or anything that comes off the grill for that matter. They charge a fee for credit cards so it's best to just bring cash. This is the only sub shop you need to know about in Miami. read more

Even though I've only been here a couple of times since I moved out of westchester, every time I have a hankering for a hot sub all I can think of is Hungry Bear. I don't know what it is about this place; I really don't. My sub of choice is always the honey mustard chicken, and every single time I take a bite out of it I swear to myself it's the best sub on earth. I want to say that they use higher quality meats than a lot of other places, but who really knows. What I do know is that whatever magic they're making here, I want it.
