Hungry Ghost is a local NYC chain, a purveyor of dependable Stumptown coffee and yummy breakfast tacos. When I lived in Austin, I regularly enjoyed breakfast tacos. When I told my NYC friends about my, er, addiction, I was recommended Hungry Ghost for their brekkie tacos, made by King David Tacos. Confirmed that Hungry Ghost has KDT tacos. And that they're a treat. Over the years, I've patronized Hungry Ghost Brooklyn locations, and drank their coffee. However, this was my first visit to a Manhattan outpost. For the West Village, there's a decent amount of seating - pleasant window and counter spots, and some in a darker nook in the back. Sidewalk-side tables, too. No public restroom. If you're over-caffeinated, they've got non-coffee beverages. (I spied health shots in the fridge.) Lovely staff. Credit accepted. read more

Hungry Ghost is a local NYC coffee chain with locations in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. From what is advertised, they use Stumptown Coffee beans to craft their coffee drinks. After a late lunch nearby, my friend and I stopped by Hungry Ghost for a coffee. The interior doesn't have a whole lot of seating, but we were able to grab a couple stool seats by the window. HONEY VANILLA CINNAMON LATTE There was a simple lily pad latte art, which was speckled with cinnamon dust. The drink itself was fine. Not too sweet, the vanilla blended well with the cinnamon. The espresso flavor wasn't very strong, unfortunately. It's nice that Hungry Ghost is on inKind, so I was able to pay using the app and save a bit of money. Overall, not bad. Hungry ghost had a smaller line than most so I decided to give it a try. I got their honey cinnamon vanilla latte iced and it wasn't bad! I appreciated that they were frothing the matcha with a whisk (instead of using the electric frother). Things I didn't appreciate - both drinks tasted okay. I think the espresso-milk-ice ratio was off such that we both felt like we were drinking flavored chilled milk. read more

This is a cute and cozy coffee shop. It had seating indoors in the front and some in the back. It is a smaller shop so it can get crowded fast I am sure. I needed to get some work done and stopped by this coffee shop. The space is nice with a good amount of seating as well. The part that really annoyed me was that they didn't have outlets to charge your laptop or phone. In addition, they also do not have any bathrooms. I guess they really don't want people to linger and hang out. I just had a Chai Latte ($6) and my friend had the Hibiscus Tea ($5), which felt pricey for a small cup. read more

Came here with a group of runners and thought the cafe's aesthetic was nice and modern yet it couldn't even house a bathroom, so I had to speed walk across the street to Joe & the Juice who graciously let me use theirs even though I was a passive customer. The interiors of Hungry Ghost are showroom cute, but not ideal for a long term stay-stool esque seats with no backing and odd spacing from the counter to the island that houses all the drink companion essentials-lid, napkins, milk. The drinks and pastries are overpriced given the quality and portion size, but you're just paying for the nice location and the overhead. The almond croissant was memorable (highly doubt they bake this in house), however the Honey Vanilla Cinnamon Latte was lowkey disgusting-you can't combine different, random sweet flavors and assume it'll taste good. My friend ordered a matcha latte, and you can just tell from the shade of green that...this is not the place for matcha or anything that is not coffee. read more

The coffee is good, but I found the service to be kind of rude. The guy who took my order didn't seem to care to be there. On his phone while I ordered and didn't let me know my beverage was ready. While the ambiance and decor were cute, the service, price and amenities were unimpressive. While tastey, $6+ for the smallest cappuccino I've ever had. Ordered with oat milk substitution ($0.50 upcharge, standard), the barista began making with cows milk and I had to have them remake it. Staff was very disengaged. Also, no public restroom!! Rating this establishment left me in a conundrum...we will have to separate ambience from customer service. We came here before heading to the iconic Friends apartment facade. We needed coffee. We drink plain black americano. That's always easy for the baristas. It was good. The pastries we had were also good. However, my three stars lean more toward customer service. The baristas need some improvement in this department. Additionally, I needed to wash my hands before eating my pastry, yet, there wasn't a restroom available for me to use. We had gotten off the Path and was walking to the East Village to meet some friends. I needed a coffee because I knew it would be a late night. Instead of checking on Google or Yelp for a coffee place in the area, I decided to just stop in the Hungry Ghost because it was across the street. They serve Stumptown coffee, so I wasn't concerned about the quality of the coffee. The coffee was good. Of course, it's Stumptown on tap. I was walking along with my friend and we were happily lost. We were also very tired and we wanted a coffee. So we decided to check this place out because of the logo. We thought it was cute. We found it funny how it said "hungry ghost" yet it had a wolf? as a logo. The guy behind the counter was nice and straightforward. He made us a chai and a latte. The beans used in this coffee shop are from stump town coffee roasters. The latte had a nutty flavor to it, it wasn't too acidic or bitter. it had a high price tag of $6, but the contrary to the previous yelper who said the latte pour was bad, it was delicious. I really dont care much for the latte art. I care more about the flavor. Flavor tops everything and it was good. My friend said the chai wasnt too spicy and it was one of the best she had. So overall, this place had perhaps one of the best drinks in West Village. I also wanted to purchase a coffee cup from miir with the coffee shops logo on it. but I thought I could find it online. I did sadly could not, (to whoever runs the website, if you guys could put that merch on the website and sell it, I would happily buy one). The atmosphere had a wonderful vibe with people reading a book, or studying. They brew stumptown coffee and the cappuccino I got had an awesome ratio of espresso to milk while still tasting like coffee. It had a perfect temperature to it as well. I've spent a few nice weather work days sitting at a little table outside Hungry Ghost enjoying the breeze, and a tasty cappuccino! The small tables outside are not crazy comfy, but fine for me. Inside the ambience is relaxed and cool, with super nice baristas and even some burrito options if you're there before lunch (they sell out). This is a total staple spot for me and I'm glad to see them around and hope they are thriving. read more

Team is far more interested in chatting with each other about "last night" than they are in actually saying hello or acknowledging you until they finish they're chat. I honestly think this coffee shop does everything you need it to do and if you're looking for overly warm and fuzzy folks, maybe go to one of their Brooklyn locations. There are no outlets for working (fine by me), but their oat latte is hands down my favorite I've had. It's also tucked onto such a cute corner, they have good indoor and outdoor seating options. I love taking a spot by the window and reading (but mostly watching people walk by). You're going to pay $6 for a latte anywhere in the village so might as well make it a cute, aesthetically-pleasing spot located in the heart of the village that has great coffee and an excellent raspberry croissant (also the cheddar and chive biscuit is superb, has a bit of a kick to it). read more
