I had the malasada from here, which is a basically fried dough with a filling inside. However, this…read moreplace is known for a particular version of it - the Crunchy Cream Malasada - which has a crunchy corn flakes coating, along with the vanilla frosting inside. This is the version I had. It's fantastic. The first thing that stands out is the amazing crunch from the cornflakes on the breading. Compared to similar versions of this food I've had - the doughnut is always soft on the outside. And this can be quite enjoyable, but when there's a textural contrast coming from the outside, it just elevates it to a whole another level. The individual cornflakes as well as the entire outside is breaded perfectly. Biting into this is such a satisfying experience. The inside is also quite good. It's a vanilla custard flavor, and it fits in really well by both filling the doughnut in volume but not being excessive enough to ooze out easily. The flavor is quite sweet and vanilla-forward, and very nice. For just $4, these are around the size of your average doughnut. Overall, it's a fantastic treat that I did not even expect this place to serve, but I'm very happy I had it. 9/10

I've gotten a few things there, and they've all been excellent. I love the ube malasada and the snores croissant thing. Also, the cheddar jalapeño breadstick was really good, too!

Visiting from CA, this was brief walk down the street from where I was staying. The cold wind and…read moregrey skies made everything on the menu pop out as comforting and delicious and the staff was friendly and patient while I looked at their display of baked goods and finally decided on the ham biscuit. It's a decent amount of biscuit with large chunks of ham and there plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the morning that isn't hustle and bustling like in downtown. I walked further to the metro bus stop down the street and was tempted to check the local dispensary on the next block but ran out of time. Will come back with friends, plenty of coffee dates and conversation were happening within but this solo adventure was just as enjoyable.

Their breakfast sandwich is literally $13 for a $5 sandwich. Today I had a simple drip coffee. This was $5.77 Then, you notice a jar for tips, and it has a sign that says, "You have already tipped, but jar is for more tips if you want to" So, yeah.... This means already damn expensive items having tipping built on top of the pricing, and the biggest issue is that you are tipping without your own choice, AND it is done before you have even received ANY service. Wait a minute.. there actually IS NO SERVICE. You order at counter. You operate the card reader yourself. The woman behind counter lifts a coffee pot, and pours it into your cup. That is literally all she does. Then you... go to the other counter to add your own cream. Nobody has come to my table to ask me if I want anything else, or how is everything, etc. Don't correct to clear your own table, because they have it set up for you to do that to. I forgot to mention the creamer was spoiled, so the coffee was not drinkable.

I thought the items we grabbed were excessively sweet. Keeping an open mind that they offer a larger variety of pastries and goods I didn't try but my visit felt just average. While not overly impressed, I can appreciate a solid spot with fresh donuts and pastries managing high traffic. Line tends to be long but moves at a moderate speed, as the employees are open to chatting. Large Butterhorn - excessively sweet to a point where I felt sick of sugar because it's also pretty big. I personally would rather eat a fluffy donut because this felt more like a condensed block of sugar, but seems to be a favorite for others. Might just not be for me. Swedish Almond Pastry - while this was also super sweet, the almond flavor was able to pop out at times. Sliced almonds on top helped sprinkle some extra flavor but were ultimately consumed by the sweetness. A little flakier in texture which helped dissociate with the dense sugar block.
