I wrote a review but accidently under Tuan's account. The following review is base on my experience with Hungry Termite. After searching for termite companies on Yelp I found Hungry Termite, it has many 5 star reviews.  So I called & met up w/ Victor, he runs the company, Victor is very knowledgeable & straight forward, his price is very reasonable.  I like Victor, so I gave his company a try.  Hungry Termite is Fast & Professional!  Everything they promised was schedule on time.  Beside tenting, my house also needed wood repair, since the tenting was well done so I went ahead & approved Hungry Termite to do the wood repair for the house.  Quyen was the person in charge of the wood repair.  It only takes 1 & 1/2 days for the wood repair & the paint job.  The job was well done that you can't notice the different.  Quyen came back the next day to check on the job, he even went back up on his ladder to touch up all the paint job for us.  this person has pride on what he does, his work is excellent!! I referred my friends to Hungry Termite.  BTW, one of my friend's house is tenting by Hungry Termite today while I am writing this review. We have a well built ranch style home in Solana Beach with BIG timbers throughout. Victor came out, discussed our options and did the work perfectly - even left the tent on for an extra day at no charge so that the gas could penetrate the bigger beams. His crew is friendly and respectful of the property - and I know no what "tight" means in this business... our house was wrapped TIGHT. Unfortunately, I did not experience good customer service with Hungry Termite. Victor came out to do the bid. I set up the appointment because I am the homeowner, but when Victor showed up, he ignored us homeowners and only wanted to talk to my caucasian husband. Despite that, I decided to go with Hungry Termite because of the good reviews. When the subcontractors showed up to do the tenting, they were chauvinistic as well. I went outside to greet them in the driveway, and they saw me but ignored me. I guess they were expecting my husband to be there, and didn't want to "deal with" an Asian woman. So I just stood there waiting for them to greet me while they ignored me. Finally it got so awkward that they felt they had to acknowledge me. They said a obligatory cold hello and walked past me into my house! When they finally realized my husband was not there, then they finally decided to talk to me. This was unpleasant but I tried to be kind to them to kill them with kindness so they would do a good job on the tenting. I stayed there while they were putting the tent up (because I had stuff to do outside in the yard -at my own house), and one of the guys kept giving me looks like he wanted me to go away. Once they were done, I noticed they made a large long scratch on the glass sun window. Apparently they didn't bother to protect the glass, and dragged metal across it and scratched it badly. I called Victor to talk to him about my concerns, and the first thing he says is "Can I speak to your husband?". What? I called him and he asks to speak to my husband? So I replied, "You can speak to me." I was extremely patient, kind, and tolerant of these guys, but they were disrespectful to me in my own house and caused damaged to my house by being careless. They say "satisfaction guaranteed", but when I called to address these issues, Victor acted like I was making a big deal about nothing, minimizing me and minimizing my concerns. The contract I signed states that they are not responsible for any damage caused to the sun window. But even so, it would've been nice if they had taken more care not to scratch it. read more

Let's face it Fumigating your home is a major inconvenience any way you look at it -- We knew there was extensive termite damage on the outside of our home (corbels, decorative wood and facia) and we wanted to keep it to the original style. After doing extensive research and having multiple estimates for our project we chose Hungry Termite. We have absolutely nothing but praises for all the time, attention, staff and subcontractors Victor has chosen to work with. Victor not only spent time with us at the initial inspection, was always available for questions/concerns, and promptly returned all phone calls, text messages and emails and answered every question that we had as it came closer to the the repairs and tenting in a timely manner. Although the whole process was straightforward - packing and coordinating a place to stay with all the animals was a bit overwhelming as we have been in our home for almost 25 years and it takes us longer to get things completed. We chose to delay our wood repair & tenting -- to work around our animals (hibernation) and need to give this job the best advantage of seasoned wood, time & temperature. As we chose to keep the original look of the home, we knew the wood replacement wasn't going to be cheap. We ended up tenting the first week of November a huge bonus was that the weather cooperated both for tenting and staying at the BnB days temperatures ranged in the mid 70's with no rain in site, everything went smoothly. Note: Call SDG&E as soon as you have your date to tent - we ended up scheduling the gas to be turned on the day after the tent came off - this way you can specify weather you want a morning or afternoon appointment. read more

This company was absolutely amazing !! I can't say enough about Victor . He was patient , professional and thorough ! My house got tented on time even though there were obstacles making his job harder . Did you know they have an inspector come out to test the chemical rating ? Yep . The winds blew the tent open and found the chemicals to be less than they should be so they tightened the tent again and blew more chemicals inside . The short version is that Hungry Termite is a fantastic, professional, and quality group. I actually joined Yelp so that I can leave this review! The longer version is... So it happened. I discovered termite damage in one fascia board, then quickly realized that several other fascia boards and rafter tails were compromised as well. Since I don't know how to kill termites OR repair rafter tails, I did the next best thing: quietly panic and get 3-4 estimates based on Yelp reviews. Victor and Hungry Termite weren't the absolute cheapest estimate (although they were nowhere near the most expensive either!), but what sold me was 1) how detailed his INSPECTION was, and 2) how detailed his ESTIMATE was. Anyone who pays that much attention BEFORE you give them money is a person who truly cares about their work. A lot of places will give you a lowball estimate and a clause in there that says the "real" inspection is still to come; other places will highball you, but then try to walk it back with a price match offer. I didn't want that, I just wanted an honest, upfront estimate. That's exactly what I got from Victor. A lot of other reviews mention how thorough Victor's inspection is, and the man lived up to his reputation. He walked and climbed around the entire house with a measuring tape and a pole, and his estimate actually listed materials, locations, and linear footage. No one else's did. He answered all the questions I had, and he made sure I knew I could call him if I thought of anything else. We wound up needing both wood repairs and fumigation (because termites are jerks), but the repair crew was VERY good. I'm both annoying picky and annoyingly curious, and they were always happy to show me how they were repairing something, explain why that was the right way to do it, and give me pointers. The final repairs look amazing, and the house is actually in better shape than it was when I bought it 12 years ago (for example, they remediated some incorrectly-done repairs the previous owner had done). They even took the time to walk me around and show me what I could do to maintain it properly. At every point, the project was clear, correct, and conformed to the estimate. When the project before mine ran long, the Hungry Termite office called me, made sure I knew what was going on, and worked with me to shift the schedule. When they said they'd call on a particular day, they did. Basically, the termites themselves were an unpleasant surprise. Once Victor and Hungry Termite got involved though, there were no more surprises. The communication was clear, the estimate was accurate, and the repairs were top notch. read more

Years ago I needed termite treatment and hired another company who recommended orange oil sprayed into the walls. We paid a lot and it didn't do the job. Later I got quotes for a full tenting but put it off. One quote was from Hungry Termite and I was super impressed with their professionalism and customer service, but again put it off. Fast forward to this summer when I couldn't wait any longer. I called Hungry Termite, they were sooo easy to work with, were able to do the job in the time frame I needed, and were just really easy to work with. We had our house tented by Hungry Termite. Before tenting, Aaron came out at least 3 times to discuss options and our concerns with us. Their price was fair and competitive, and we got the sense that they knew what they were talking about. We also got estimates from 3 other companies for comparison. Before they came to tent, we had flooding in our home and had to cancel and reschedule and they accommodated us without issues. When they tented, we were sure we would lose a bunch of plants and shrubs around our house but we didn't! They took great care to keep them out of the tent. Every aspect of working with Hungry Termites was a pleasure. I had to cancel once, but the owner, Victor, took it in stride. When we did finally connect, he spent a great deal of time being thorough and reassuring me in an honest forthright way. This was my third round of getting estimates for termites over a course of almost a year and a half. The major problem was my metal roof. For this reason, I very nearly went with a company that did orange oil. Victor was thorough in his examination of the premises. Unlike the orange oil company that said my metal roof was not over the original cedar shake roof, Victor pointed out two unmistakable ways to tell that, indeed, it was clearly the metal roof was installed over the cedar shakes. Since I knew for a fact that I had a lot of termites, I wanted the problem taken care of. I did not know, or could not tell, if there were in fact termites in the original cedar shake roof. When I still lamented about the metal roof possibly being damaged, Victor pointed out the value of the house vs. the value of having to get a new roof if it ever came to that , and it was as if a light bulb went off! It made sense to take care of the termites and worry about the roof later. I did have to sign a release, but I knew/trusted that the company Victor would use to do the tenting would take care. I feel that is what they did, and although there may be some bent portions, it would be difficult to tell by just looking. I cannot see any damage and there is nothing blatantly obviously wrong with the roof. Victor was the only one to actually show me crickets in the garage. This is a rental house and I don't live there. Although I heard other companies say the word, no one pointed it out to me. No one else pointed out that we had a wasp nest high on the eaves. I asked Victor how long he was doing this and he was very honest in telling me three years. He could have said ten or fifteen and I wouldn't know. He pointed out that he is a general contractor and his demeanor and knowledge assured me he knew what he was doing. Plus I felt he was honest and forthright. He gave me a reasonable estimate (less than the orange oil company). I felt when it came to the repairs, it would be his own crew and they would be knowledgeable how to get the job done. Victor has given me a three year warranty. To get the house ready for the fumigation took effort on the part of my tenants and required them to be away for two nights. Victor brought the bags for the food by, and his office manager emailed complete instructions for the tenants to peruse. The office manager, Elvia, was totally professional, answering my every email very timely. She returned phone calls very timely as well. There were no slip ups or mess ups. I would say as a tip, to allow more time to arrange for SDGE to turn the gas back on than what is recommended. I could only get an 8:00 a.m. to DARK appointment. They did come after dark more than twelve hours later. Since we fumigated Friday and the tenants returned on Sunday, they were without hot water and heat until Monday night - no fault of Victor but I am just issuing an advisory. There was one very minor incident, hardly worth mentioning regarding a broken leg on a porch chair. I say it only because Victor was right on top of it with the tenant, then called me to follow up. Things happen, but Victor went above and beyond what is the norm to rectify the situation. I am totally a satisfied customer. My husband and I stopped by while Victor's crew was doing the repairs. They were busy at work, personable, and very willing to show us the repairs and what they had done. I will definitely call on Victor in the future. He is working hard to build his business. I had a termite report from another company that I was having difficulty understanding and that company had been unsuccessful in explaining it to me. I needed a general overview of the termite requirements when selling a home and Victor took the time to explain it to me. He knew he would not be getting any business from my home because the report was done but his patience in helping me understand my report was truly appreciated. We interviewed three different companies before making a decision to go with Hungry Termite. All seemed okay. Victor was the deciding factor for us as he gave us a lot of time, a lot of information, and seemed genuinely interested in our situation. When it came time to do the actual tenting project, there was a problem with the Hungry Termite scheduling. I was concerned because they moved the time to tent from the morning to the early evening hours. I could not understand how they could do something of that magnitude when it's practically dark outside! Victor assured me all would be well, that the crew could do the job with their eyes shut! They also came back at a later date to treat subterranean termites. Victor was very thorough and knowledgeable; you can tell he cares about the quality of his work. His communication was great-- he emailed to say he was running 1/2 hour late. Victor came out and completed an estimate prior to booking an appointment to getting rid of these nasty bugs. I love how my boss does business, so I was extremely impressed by Victor's knowledge of how termites look, what the difference in types of termites, how much he loved what he does, it is a small company, etc. It reminded me of my boss. Which is why I used them! He explained exactly what he needed to do, looked over every nook and cranny of the building, asked about the adjoining neighbor's office, the whole sha-bang! Not to mention a quarter price of the other guys.... Which out of the 3 quotes I had, I didn't really feel like any of them loved what they do.
