It just wasn't as good as we remembered. It's been a couple of years since our last visit to Hunter House and, I must say, we were a bit disappointed. The service was friendly but not as personable as it once was. Our food came to the table in three stages, several minutes apart so we sat staring at part of our breakfast while waiting on the rest. I liked the Reuben just fine. Fed 4 with drinks for $35. Closest Cafe to Stonehenge II -- about three blocks away. Chased unicorns with other restaurants that evidently just didn't exist anymore -- but this one did and probably still will when you arrive. I would eat there again. read more

Was on the road this morning and needed a good breakfast. Had been to the Hunter House some years ago, so figured it was time for a return visit. The place is fairly small with somewhat limited seating. However, I had no trouble when I arrived (about 0830) being seated immediately. I ordered the Spanish Omelet with hash browns and biscuit. The omelet, while tasty, was not the best I've had but certainly not the worst for a far shot. The hash browns were toasty on the exterior with a soft interior--just right. The biscuit was fine but nothing spectacular. But at $7.95 it was what I wanted, a good breakfast at a decent price. Service was down-home friendly and very responsive to my needs--my coffee cup never got past half-full before it was filled. As an aside, the table next to me had some very nice pancakes and they were kind enough to share a bite with me. Very nice--fluffy but with a bit of heft to them. My boyfriend and I were visiting his family in Kerrville for a wedding and found this place on Yelp. We both wanted a big traditional breakfast. This place was perfect. The food is spectacular. It is definitely a hidden gem and you would not expect the food to be as amazing as it is based on the interior or exterior. I got an omelette and my boyfriend got a combo breakfast with eggs, bacon, pancakes, and hashbrowns. He also got a side of chicken fried steak... yes, a SIDE for $4. It was great. Coffee was great. This is a favorite lunchtime haunt for My Husband and me. It is also a place we come when we sometimes break Our Kiddos out of school for an off-campus lunch. The Waitstaff are ALWAYS friendly. I have never had a bad experience with them. This is one of those local "greasy spoon" gems known to every small town! The Club Sandwich is a monster and VERY tasty and anytime they have fried catfish on the menu, I order it! Very tasty! My Husband is more of a Cheeseburger Guy and I've never once heard him complain. We really enjoy the Hunter House for breakfast. The service is great and our favorite waitress keeps the hot coffee coming. We usually order the breakfast tacos. If you stop later in the day the chicken fried chicken is nice and the burgers are good as well. read more

It is clean, tidy, attractive, with touches of western flavor. The wait staff, many of whom also followed the owners here, know most of the locals by name and enjoy great banter as they serve up home cooked meals to satisfy anyone. Hunter House Inn & Suites is highly recommended by many people. It has a reputation as the closest and most convenient inn to the camps and other locations around Hunt, TX. My family has routinely visited this area for many years during the summer months. From what I have been told by several people, Hunter House has historically been a good place to stay. Unfortunately, my last visit did not live up to expectations. I have stayed at many of the establishments in the Ingram/Kerrville area and compared to them my experience with Hunter House was the worst by far. Having been built in a traditional style, the rooms are small and sparsely furnished. The small bathroom is unexceptional with a shower head well below 6 ft high. The rooms have outside facing doors and the window-mounted air-conditioner is loud and ineffectual. I did not sleep well, the beds are uncomfortable and the noise pollution from the AC was significant. Upon waking up from our night there, the person I was traveling with informed me that she had seen several small bugs in her bed that morning and believed them to be bed bugs. Due to the current wave of bed bug infestations we felt it was important to report that fact to the person at the front desk. When informed of what we saw the man told her that they had to fumigate every month and left it at that. I went in to inquire further, and that is when things got interesting. The man I spoke with told me he had gone to take a look and thought they were "just ants". He went on to say that they couldn't be held responsible for insects in the room because he "didn't know where she has been" (referring to my roommate) and the fact the rooms have outside-facing doors. Knowing this alone I would never stay at Hunter House again yet the worst was yet to come. I told him that I felt it was unreasonable for him to deny all responsibility for this problem and he just exploded on me. He began cussing and screaming at me at the top of his lungs, shouting repeatedly that he wanted me to 'GET THE F*CK OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW" and violently shaking. This man has a serious anger management issue. He just snapped during the course of a normal conversation due to a simple customer complaint. Knowing this man has access to all the rooms, this place is NOT safe and I would NEVER take my family there again. To me, regardless of everything else that was so mediocre the cleanliness and service was absolutely unacceptable. Do NOT patronize this establishment if you value your health and safety. It has definitely gone down hill over the years. Unfortunately it is one of the only, if not the only, hotel in Ingram. Thankfully, there are much more comfortable, more professional establishments not far away in the Kerrville area. read more
