From the outside this looked like a nice place to stop for lunch after a hike along the Potomac. We were seated promptly, but right away noticed they needed to run a vacuum once in a while. We were their right at noon, so it wasn't like this was after a big lunch rush. The food came relatively quickly. But it was clear things like bacon on the burger were not made to order, it had been sitting for quite awhile. The $15 burgers my wife and I had were not good quality and the fries were something I would make at home as a teenager. The sodas we ordered were served warm in 12 oz plastic bottles. Service was very slow and there were multiple tables with dirty dishes sitting and on them. It took a good 20 minutes to get out bill while we looked at dirty plates and empty glasses. It also didn't help that the hostess was shouting to the servers across the room more than once. We won't be stopping here again. read more

We are residents of Potomac and I would love to be able to give a positive plug to a local business; but, sorry to say that I can't at this time. We have been to Hunter's Bar and Grill 5 times. The common refrain of many reviews is the shoddy service. The servers are friendly and full of personality, but either lack direction or management does not hire enough servers, especially at busy times. You can expect to wait long periods for a waiter to check on you, to clear your table, to refill your water glass, and to bring you your check. Yesterday, we were tempted to go to the front desk just to pay our bill because the waiter delayed so long in coming back to pick up the credit card. We found the food to be delicious. Parking is great. The environment is nice. Hopefully management will wake up and address the specific problems. read more

What a disappointment. The hostess was about the only good thing here quickly seating us. The waitress forgot my ice tea and I had to remind her to take it off our over priced meal. We chose Father's Day to go. to our first time at Hunter's Bar and Grill. Food was good, service not so much. Our waiter didn't say Happy Father's Day to my husband until he proofed my son who said we were there to celeberate the special day. It was a slurred and half harted acknowledgement. The word "Day" at the end was unrecognizable. All three of us spent many years in the customer service industry and were VERY disappointed with the service. Deserving of one instead of zero because the bartender on September 10 @ 9.20pm was very nice. Ordered fish tacos at 9.20 with them saying the kitchen is about to close. Twenty minutes later, they tell me they are out of tacos. There were probably 8 customers in the entire place. What a joke of a job by the kitchen staff, communication here was put on the back-burners. Side note: the bartender kindly provided me with extra limes after I requested them for my Muel, then after I squeezed them into the Muel, he topped me off with extra Vodka without asking, saying 'this will take away the bitterness'... One wouldn't describe the Hunters Inn food, clientele, or venue as progressive or hip in any way, but the patrons are probably okay with that--they seem to be old Potomac folk that grew up together. It's located next to a gas station, the parking is tight, and the service can be hit or miss. There are very few healthy options on the menu, and if you are a vegetarian, you have only two or three items to choose from. My husband and son are not vegetarian, and they like the Crabcakes, and the Blue Cheese Burger. I get the Caesar Salad. All in all, I would only recommend Hunters Inn if you live in Potomac Village, and you don't feel like driving very far. read more

Definately a locals hang out, and I'm a sometimes local, so I try to appreciate it for what it is..food that is reminiscent of a country club grill. Hunter's Inn specializes in the old standards, and does them respectfully. The portions by our California standards are huge, we hauled away a quartet of go boxes. Fried Calimari was healthy circular slices, not over fried with a good semi spicy dipping sauce. Caesar salad is a cc standard, so I ordered and wolfed one down. My Mom's Eggplant Parmesan could have fed four people, a mound of parmesan on a plate of pasta, all tasty. We got quick attentive, respectful service, but did make reservations. I think many others have covered this restaurant in better detail. For me, The Hunter's Inn is about the welcome feeling I get when I frequent this restaurant. The hostess is a quick study of regulars and her welcoming smile always feels appreciated. I, along with a League of Distinguished Gentlemen (I am very much the rookie of the group), routinely meet Saturday afternoons to discuss current world affairs in earnest. Our group is careful to make our room reservation a week in advance, though sometimes we find ourselves communing in the bar area at a table by the window (fair warning - there are some "locals" that will gladly attempt to invade your discussion if you are not careful...for some reason, many of the older patrons fancy themselves as characters from a Tom Clancy / Robert Ludlum novel). The half off burgers on Saturday never fail to satisfy. The fries are always crispy and the burgers are almost always cooked to the correct doneness. Truly, I've no real complaint - it is respectable pub fare (and for half off...come on). Service is pretty attentive without being pushy. Our round table discussions normally extend well into the afternoon but we are never hurried. Love the Hunter Burger! It's always cooked the way I order it, even when picking up to bring home. The bottom bun can get a bit soggy when taking out, but what do you expect with a juicy burger. I have been going to Hunter's Inn since I was 19 years of age and I still love the place as much now as I did back then. I love the happy hour menu and have also gone here for special celebrations like birthdays and wedding showers. The bar is a cheerful area which has a steady crowd and the dining room is large yet homey. They also have a private dining area which is good for special dinners with family and friends. The patio is hoppin during the evenings when it is not too hot out. Today I had one of my favorites, the Cobb Salad with no bacon ( I don't do pork) with their delicious honey mustard dressing. The salad is fresh field greens with shredded egg, red onion cubes, blue cheese crumbles, mushrooms, avocado and diced tomato. I got mine with grilled chicken which was delish. I have tried about every thing on the menu here and have never ever had a bad meal. The bread basket served before meals includes fresh slices of raisin bread which has regular and golden raisins and although I do not fancy raisins normally, this bread is very yummy. I would give 5 stars if the wait staff paid just a little more attention to refills and less time congregating behind the wait staff station chit chatting, but the food is consistently good and fresh and I enjoy the nightly specials. A great neighborhood hangout or destination spot to get that kind of "Cheers" vibe at the bar or have a nice meal with family and friends with a menu that has such a selection that everyone is sure to be satisfied. read more

Went here with a large group and we really liked it. The salmon was a hit and so was the steak. (my only "beef" was that the portion of the steak was too small) It was tender and juicy. Great flavors along with the carrots and mash. I wish the apple pie was warm and came with ice cream, but it was still nice. The chocolate cake was deemed way too sweet. Thanksgiving reservations for a party of 11 at 4 pm. Important to note that at our scheduled time, and throughout the meal, the restaurant was largely empty. At 4 pm they are not ready for us and the set-up is haphazard. They say "Eleven people" and put out place settings for ten. Whoever was in charge, if anyone was, walks away before the settings are complete - no real supervision. Turkey and steak options were less than mediocre. Rockfish meuniere was good. One person commented the salad greens were wilted. When asked in Caesar salad comes with anchovies, the server does not know. He does return to say the anchovies can be added. He does not mention that including this traditional part of a Caesar salad will cost an extra $6 per plate. Turkey was over-salted; even a brine should not add a strong, salty flavor. My wife who loves salt found the turkey inedible and left behind a mostly-full plate. Steaks ordered medium-rare were served rare. Requests to continue cooking were accepted cordially by the server but were apparently ignored by the chef. Finally, we asked if dessert could be to-go. Yes. With eleven people and a pie intended to serve six, we were given a full pie and five out of six pieces of the other. I have worked in hospitality, and that last point said it all.
